Someday I want to hear the un-broadcastable bits.... I really enjoyed listening to Sam. I haven't seen as much of him as I have some of the others. His enthusiasm is infectious.
Discovered Time Team last year and became addicted! As an American, I know that this history is my history as well. I traced my ancestry about 10 years ago to a town near London. History has always been an interest to me. I had a history professor in college that said, "we don't know where we are going unless we know where we've been"!
Great interview, I always loved Time Team, what a marvellous series, I especially like it when Sam speaks the old dialects, it's good to see you both, stay safe, kind regards Stuart uk.
I remember this episode well, one of my ancestors was a general in William's army but went back to Normandy. The family were helped to England at the time of the French revolution. I have always been interested in the Middle ages and the insights that this video gives is wonderful to me. I was born in Sussex but now live near Colchester in Essex.
Thank you. I watched every episode of Time Team when it was on tv. Loved the show. Great to have it in this format. I feel very lucky. Thank you 👍👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Love revisiting this information! We’re Native American (3 different Native nations) but a bit of Scots on my dad’s side (directly descended from St Margaret and Malcolm III of Scotland), so we’re related to Edward the Confessor.
Re-named River Tease!!! But seriously, humans are drawn to water, it makes up about 75% of our body so we love and venerate it. Any fountain, pool or ornamental water feature will soon be full of coins as people make a wish when the coins are dispatched into the water. So, if you want a quick ''earner'' install a wishing-well, fountain or possibly just a bucket of water in your garden and invite the public!!!! Great episode, I remember it first time round.
A question: It all sounds good, Just and palatable that William had first dibs. However as was said, Harold Godwin had Danish blood, surely William as a Norman. also had Viking blood (Norman = Norseman). So there was not a true blood Saxon or Anglo Saxon in the game anyway.?

I could listen to Dr. Sam Newton lectures for hours. Those stories are so interesting and compelling.
what a great turn of phrase!: "a strong note of indecent haste"

As an archeologist/anthropologist who focuses on linguistics, I loved this episode- it was a great learner!
Love the way Sam Newton lifts history off the page and makes the stirring events of these ancient times live for us.
