Chance doesn't exist
But the path of life is not
Totally so predestined and
Time and chronology
Show us how all should be
In the ways of existence
To find out why we are here
Being conscious is a torment
The more we learn is the less we get
No one surveys the whole
Focus on things so small
But life's objective is to make it meaningful
Only searching for this
That which doesn't exist
Although our ability
To relativize remains unclear
Being conscious is a torment
The more we learn is the less we get
Every answer contains a new quest
A quest to non-existence, a journey with no end
I'm not afraid to die
I'm afraid to be alive
Without being aware of it
I'm so afraid to, I couldn't stand to
Waste all my energy in things
That do not matter anymore
Our future has already been written by us alone
But we don't grasp the meaning
Of our programmed course of life
We only fear what comes
And smell death every day
Our future has already been wasted by us alone
And we just let it happen and do not worry at all
Our future has already been written by us alone
But we don't grasp the meaning
Of our programmed course of life
We only fear what comes
And smell death every day
Search for the answers that lie beyond
Being conscious is a torment
The more we learn is the less we get
Every answer contains a new quest
A quest to nonexistence, a journey with no end

Fun fact:
at 5:38 in your video you can see Simone's facial expression when she did a mistake and sang "Searching only" instead of "Only searching" :)
Pandora delivers!
Edit: Great reaction, I suspect I'm going to fall even deeper in love with Epica following your journey 😂
Simone's voice at this young stage was extremely unique, a timbre I have never heard from another singer. Like silk on a iron glove. Later she develops that timbre into pure, focused sweetness and femininity, you will see what I mean around albums 3-4.
I love all stages of her voice, but some fans fell off at the transition point from old to new style, while others jumped on the train. I find it all awesome, a single singer with two extremely unique and distinct timbres during her career is a treasure, not a negative.
The thing that strikes me with this, the first song on their first album is the maturity, in lyrics and composition. Mark and Simone seem like old souls. These are not just "I'm 14 and this is deep" lyrics, these are actually deep lyrics, at any age. Also, poor Simone having to sing the word "Relativize" holy moly 😂
Hi Pandora, a bit of trivia about the performance, this was an hour long show recorded at 2 Meter Sessies, a Dutch live music television show in 2004, later released on DVD named 'EPICA - We Will Take You With Us'.
The blond haired lady and dark haired lady backing singers who are singing together are Amanda Sommerville and Linda van Summeren, you heard Simone talk about Amanda in the interview, Amanda helped Epica in the studio with English language amendments to lyrics and also as Simones' vocal coach, Amanda also co wrote the lyrics to the Epica song 'Tides of Time' with Simone, a breathtakingly beautiful song as you will discover.
Linda van Summeren later married Epica keyboard player Coen Janssen, Linda has sung backing vocals on the vast majority of Epica's studio recordings
Wow! That is so cool!! Thank you!!
@@PandoraPlaysMusic Sensorium is a wonderful song. It made me fall in love with Epica.
Did you notice that Simone sounded differently when using her operatic vocals? It sounds different from newer videos. She's improved her technique over years but many people, including myself, actually love that young voice from earliest years. This voice was so special, unlike any other female voice in metal. I will love it forever :)
The next song is Cry For the Moon. It's actually the first Epica song and it's about child abuse within the Catholic church. Simone's voice will give you probably even more chills. The song melody is not so easy to sing, but she did it beautifully.
And the next song after that will be a ballad Feint, very emotional and beautiful too. It comes in metal and acoustic version. Do you think you can do both in just one video?

@@cancelled_user damn Kyle, we are lucky to have Pandora:D
At last! That was a looong wait!
Can't wait for Cry For The Moon and other songs from this session.
You can also watch EPICA - Sensorium (Live @ Paradiso) (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO), that's from 2006, so two years later than the video you just reacted to.
4:54 - Yes, that's how I always feel when Simone switches to her operatic register :-)
I just love the lyrics analysis! Very good part of reaction
The blonde soprano singer in the backing vocalists is Amanda Sommerville who sang lead vocals when Simone became ill on tour in 2008. She also sings with 4 vocalist group Exit Eden, who did a good metal cover of Lady Gaga's 'Paparazzi'.
This song is the first "full" track of the album but it's still present on their live setlists... really great classic tune
They also recently released a version from a live performance in 2006 at Paradiso, that had not been released yet.
i know i will love this my fav band and singer and reacter has to be amazing i love you both
Beautiful. And how young they were. I'm feeling my age :)
Great reaction & keep up the brilliant work !
how absolutely perfect - i have always love this song and listen to it alot
wow i feel old watching that clip remember when it came out first song that got me into epica you should watch the whole recording.
That's the plan:))
@@PandoraPlaysMusic Btw Pandora, you can now learn names of the other band members, maybe? :)
You already know Simone and Mark Jansen.
The third co-founding member is Coen Janssen (yes, another Jansen but with double "s").
Coen (read 'kun' as in 'moon' but shorter) is the keyboardist. Most notable difference in old videos is that here he still had full hair. From 2014 onward he is completely bald. In 2013, during the 10th anniversary Retrospect show he was half bald :]
When Mark was kicked out from his band After Forever, he knew he wanted to do music with more orchestral/classical sound and he needed someone with a degree in music who can write music for orchestra. That was Coen Janssen.
They also hired a singer Helena Michaelsen but she was very soon dismissed and Mark asked his GF Simone who just finished her vocal lessons if she would like to try it with Epica. I think most Epica fans, including myself, consider Simone the first and only singer of the band.
The other 3 original band members are:
Jeroen Simons - drums
Yves Huts - bass guitar
Ad Sluijter - lead guitar
Jeroen didn't want to play too heavy and was replaced in 2007 by Arien who came from a death metal band, so Epica got overall heavier sound. Jeroen is a drum teacher today. Ad became a teacher too (I think maths) and was replaced in Isaac in 2009. Yves left in 2012 because he was offered a job in his father's big international business, and was replaced by Rob.
Amazing video 😁 keep it up 😊 have a beautiful day 🙂
Great Reaction 😀
Great reaction. Love the leather jacket!
Probably one of the best live band in the world.
Nice video reaction
man this is so amazing
Like most Epica songs :)
Here's a link to Sensorium from their 2013 Retrospect Tenth Anniversary concert: th-cam.com/video/oMIVlG6K2qM/w-d-xo.html The depth of their lyrics is one of my favourite things about them, even back then, they wrote great songs in a foreign language.
Hi Pandora, btw. the blond girl with the great earrings is an American women called Amanda Sommerville who lives in Holland as far as I know.
She does.
know you know why this is my fav epica song after all this time
dont know why this is my fav Epica song still to this day

DUTCHIES!!! 🇳🇱💚
Me encantaria que reacciones Epica- Unleashed
Hang on, was that 1 backup vocalist a Exit Eden bands singer. Or one of those many ladies on Exit Eden?
I ges Simone was on this time when epica the Studio Version of Sensorium 19 or 20 yesrs she came with 17 to epica and one of the femal Back round singer the blond Female is Amanda Summerville 🤘
Listen to Epica "Rivers"
Hi, Pandora; just want to remind you that the Holy Trinity in symphonic metal is (in chronological order): THERION, NIGHTWISH and EPICA. I hope you'll also react to Therion, the founders of the genre. I suggest the first symphonic metal hit, the song that blew our minds back in 1996: "To Megatherion" (Live Gothic or Wacken 2007). I really want to know what you think about my favorite band... Of course, continue with Epica and Nightwish because they are awesome (as I said, the Holy Trinity of symphonic metal)... Cheers from Spain
There is another school of thought, you are born, struggle to survive and you die. Nothing is left exept the memories in other people's mind.
Check that song live at retrospect... full Symphonic orchestra and choir... that version are epic and amazing
But this TV session was beautiful too. It shows young Epica and also Simone's different vocal style back then. That's why I always suggest it for reactions :)
vocal singing lessons, in this period of time, will impress few people
i love your videos, you looks like nice person... Try some day with Yanni, its a greek musician
How's it going Pandora?
I'm great, how are you?:)
@@PandoraPlaysMusic Welcome back Pandora! I thought something has happened to you... it took ages from your Adyta reaction to the next song. Don't leave us wait for so long please :-))
same version but cry for the moon
another great song from the same version is feint also the memory
Where is Phantom Agony's reaction?
Hi,ElRenegado:) This is song number 2 (Sensorium) of the Phantom Agony Album from 2003. Song number 9, The Phantom Agony, will be coming up soon. Thanks! :)
@@PandoraPlaysMusic Ohhh Ok sorry.
I thought you would write as an album "We Will Take You With Us". You won a new suscriptor. Good reaction.
live is so much better and that blonde back up singer is someone famous
Who is she ?
@@tomnagel5769 i cant remember what i had for lunch someone else knows lol
@@tomnagel5769 Amanda Somerville.
She was Simone's vocal coach at that time. As a native English speaker (American) she also helped the band with some corrections of their lyrics. She's a co-founder of the band Exit Eden.
@@cancelled_user thank you very much I am going to check out exit eden loving this symphonic metal l grew up with progressive rock luv this new world
@@tomnagel5769 You're welcome :)
