Hi, my nam is Andy and thanks for a clear and concise video. I have the same dif but was advised by the MG garage not to change the oil seal unless absolutely necessary as a spacer inside the dif can get crushed resulting in the pinion wrecking the whole dif. Did you have any issues with your dif afterwards?
How do the replaced front seal and rear axle hold up after 7 years? My MGB rear axle is currently up on my workbench and I also need to replace the seal (it is leaking badly). I am wondering pinion surface shim is worth considering. what is your thought on this?
@@JRsGarage Good to hear and thx. I will leave the pinion and crown wheel in place but declonk and replace the half shaft bearings. I am concerned about the collapsable spacer - hence my question if you had any issues after doing the front seal. Your video is encouraging me to give it a go.
Socket extension is a lot harder metal than a large bolt, to grind. Kinda waste if a good tool too, to me anyhow. Also the short ground off bolt was closer to the plate to get better leverage. Seemingly, mind was pretty tight.
I'll take that under advisement, but don't hold your breath. I don't script these out, nor do I have a production department, nor do I get paid to do this, so you may have to deal with it. Sorry.
Thanks for documenting this procedure - very helpful!
My pleasure.
Thank you, just what I needed.
My pleasure.
Since your there, replace the thrush bushing! Will tighten up and eliminate any clunk.
Thanks for the tip.
But that's not a 5 min job and diff has to be removed !!

Haven't thought twice about it, no issues.
@@JRsGarage Thanks, you’ve inspired me to have a go 😬
Good luck.

I'm not having any issues. I'm of the opinion that your better completing all the jobs at once while you have things dismantled.

Why didn't you just grind the end of a short socket extension bar, then you could use a 1/2" ratchet to undo the plug
That would have worked as well but I didn't have a disposable socket extension at the time.

What size is the nut on front of differential?
Sorry it took so long to reply. It is 1-1/8".
Aft, propeller shaft, assembly LOL. Boats and car's, enjoy your B
The drive shaft is also referred to as a propeller shaft in the MGC manual.
For god sake think about what you're going to say before you start talking....it's killing me all the eeehhh oooh aaar uuummm! Lol
