The people saying this was out of nowhere, I don't get it. It was so clear throughout the season that Campbell was into Grace. He didn't say it outright but you could see it.

Such a beautiful scene with Grace's singing and Tommy watching. As for Campbell - he proposing to Grace may not have been so out of the blue. He did show affection for her - if at least in a fatherly way. I think back in those days, some men would feel entitled to asking a woman to marry them without any actual relationship. They only have to love her and want her and they'd believe she'd marry him. Some women accepted because it was survival - other women led with their heart and declined. Women were treated like property back then, I think - at least from what I glean from stories of men and women back then.
