This has to be the root of one of the Gracie JJ headlock defenses. Main difference is you slide off to a side and pull the attacker in a circular motion. Which allows the defender to end up in top position.
Hi... great videos. Is there any greater risk of hurting the knee of the person being thrown or for that matter what about the thrower's leg that is doing the tripping?
Because you shoot the leg in super far with your knee close to the ground your leg is almost parallel to the ground. So even if they somehow fall onto your knee the ground braces it and keeps you safe. You're only really at risk if you stay high and loose, where they can fall into your knee from the side.
Good question. Other teachers describe this as a very dangerous throw for both uke and tori. Uki can get hurt if tori comes in and "sit" at back of the knee or tori can get hurt if you sit straight down. I imagine it's all dependent upon execution. John Daneher banned it in his gym and Shintaro Higashi did a vid on it's dangers.
crushing knees at its finest

ComplexBlackness IIRC it’s more of a yoko otoshi although the Gracie system has a tani otoshi variant they call ‘rear takedown’
07:09 immediate takedown

I can't recall ever seeing or knowing of a knee injury when doing this throw for either the attacker or defender.

How many points do you get in judo for the trip? 1?
Depends on how much control and how hard the opponent is thrown to the mat.
If the person being thrown lands on their back it's ippon= 2 points
If they land on their side it's wazari= 1 point
