Watch at .25 speed at 1:33. Luckily the mat is slippery, so your Uke's right foot doesn't stay planted and slides to alleviates the pressure, but are you worried about damaging their knee if you did manage to drop the weight and their foot stayed planted? I'm always worried about this, any tips would be appreciated.
Great question. Tani otoshi is banned in my dojo except for black belt vs black belt rounds. And even then, I discourage using this technique in the way that it is showed here. I usually show it with a lifting ura nage finish. Tani otoshi is the most dangerous technique in the dojo. When performed poorly, it can injure someone and it is easily countered at a high level. I think all dojos should take this safety precaution. No tani otoshis under black belt!
@@Shigashi84 Thank you for the insight. I love how effective this move can be if you get the strong reaction, but I almost never do it for fear of injuring my partners. Do you feel Kosoto Gake could be a less risky replacement?
@@DubiousDom You are a good dude. I am sure you are an awesome training partner too. I like to show a kosoto into uranage instead. Maybe I will make a video of that soon.
@@Shigashi84 Yes please. It looks way cooler anyway 😎 Thank you, I try to be. I think once you know what a major injury can do to derail a person, and how easily it can happen, you don't want to put that on anyone else. Keep up the awesome videos, I always check to see what else you've put out.
I accidentally hurt my partner's knee doing this throw. It’s such a good counter to over hand grips and it’s very powerful but I think I’ll save this one for self defense after tonight.
Did they recover? was it in kenka yotsu? Asking because I throw this out and dont want to hurt people, but only do it on asymmetrical grips, like this vid.
Barry Carter im sure it can work. Hard to catch them at that angle. If they square up, there’s a good chance The leg gets sat on, or get countered. Id rather do something else from that two on one.
@@Shigashi84 I see. The team over there made videos on using Yagura Nage / Lateral Drop or a Ura Nage from that position. Thank you for your input! Your Judo has taught me so much.
I love the valley drop. Practical in the dojo and very practical in the street.
Go judo! 🥋😎🤙🏾
