In my opinion, one of the best movies to come out within the past ten years. Can't wait for your reactions.
A lot of people don’t give the second part it’s due. Yes it wasn’t Villneuve behind the camera but I thought it was also a great movie that kept the intensity of the first. But I agree with you it was certainly one of the best films of the last 10 years.
@@domenicgalata1470 Completely agree. Both good movies
The guy from the Bar who attacked her from the Walking Dead tvshow plays THE PUNISHER on Netflix Marvel Shows
Interstellar and Fury
if you like this "no country for old men" is for you
This is one of the most intense, thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat even when nothing is happening!!! The music plays a massive part in it and some of the visuals are breathtaking, can't wait for this.
That score is so freakin haunting. Really add to the suspense
"You are in the land of wolves, and you are NOT a wolf" . Such a precise & accurate line.
Epic line.
"You will not survive here. You're not a wolf and this is the land of wolves now."
@@MOZONEandGlambot such a poignant & true statement. Reminds me of the Untouchables where Connery puts it straight to Costner in regards to what it takes & asks him point blank "What are you prepared to do?". Sicario' does it better IMOP but both films nail the reality of life.
LAND OF WOLVES.
But yet, you got it wrong.😂🤦♂️
The CIA needed 1 FBI agent to operate in the US. They chose her because she was both nieve and gung-ho, Matt knew she would keep going with them, but to nieve to understand just how deep she was getting in.
That’s spot on and they didn’t want Reggie because he knew the legal aspects of it all and he would know exactly what they were up too.
Yeah and he didn't want her partner cause he was a lawyer
Naive*
And yep, Daniel Kaluuya would have probably blown a whistle instead of letting curiosity get the better of him.
Don't forget 1-sfod-d
I saw a fan theory that came out a year or 2 after the film came out where Daniel’s character was actually a Cartel informant/double-agent. And they were linking things like his connection with Bernthal’s character and his knowledge of the situation and his objections with Brolin’s character. I mean it’s possible but highly unlikely.
Top 5 movies of ALL TIME!!!!!! Oh.... Best director too.
Slow your roll now, it's great but top 5 all time is pushing it.
Best writer for sure.
Name the other 4
not even top 50
The masterpiece of this movie from a directing standpoint was making you think the focus of the movie was about Kate and from her perspective. Then as the story of Alejandro unfolds, you realize the movie is about him and his story arc.
In the literary world, she's what's called the false protagonist. Another great example of this is Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) in 'Psycho.'
@@dawb86 Nice, haven’t seen that movie
She serves as the audience stand-in.
@@dawb86 And Kurt Russell in Big Trouble in Little China
Long-time fan! As others attest, "Sicario" is nearly perfect: a complex narrative based on realities we only read about in the news; characters whose motives we can't discern; a naive protagonist w/ whom we identify; and the most sublime set-pieces imaginable.
"Sicario" is unreal: filmmaking of the highest order. SO SO good!
p.s. I nearly forgot about the score by Johann Johannsson (had to look him up) who died only a few years after the film was released. His rumbling synthesizer motif is utterly unnerving
Except she's not really the protagonist, we're just tricked into believing she is, like Kurt Russel in Big Trouble in Little China.
@@shoujahatsumetsuWym tricked? I don’t see any trickery lol.
Sicario and Arrival came out in the same year..Amazing
Denis loves his cinematography
Absolute master of his craft
Asia: "What just happened"?
BJ: "No habla Ingles!
🤣🤣🤣
Fantastic movie, great reaction! ❤
Enhanced interrogation techniques is what happened.
You know you are a badass, when you wear flip flops to a high level meeting 😂😂
Hey guys, this is written by Taylor, Sheridan, the guy that did Yellowstone. He lives outside Weatherford west of Fort Worth.
Sheridan can make some great movies and shows, but he's an egotistical asshole according to a lot of people that worked with him. Even Kevin Costner couldn't put up with it anymore which is why he won't be in the next season of Yellowstone
@@YouOnlyIiveTwice Kevin Costner supposedly isn't the greatest person to work with either.
That's crazy he wrote this good movie and then a steaming pile of crap like Yellowstone
"Windy river"... My G, that is hard...
He was excellent as Charming P.D. Officer David Hale in Sons of Anarchy.
The simplicity and yet the intensity of the sound score is brilliant.
The thumbing beats reminds me of terminator 2.
RIP to the composer. He died in his late 30’s I believe.
He was a genius. He truly has created amazing scores. @@nickb1762
I've been a Villeneuve super fan basically since this came out, and I'm so glad to see him getting all of the limelight he deserves nowadays. Dune 2 blew my mind!
This movie is epic. I feel so sorry for the regular people that live in these areas under these circumstances just trying to live their lives.
I know right, so scary to think about like what if Mexico was a real place 😬
Not every place in Mexico is like this..the comment said “these areas”
Oh, of course, I know that! @@phillyphan1225
I was in El Paso working construction on Ft Bliss’ new VA hospital, and at first wasn’t going to go because of the desert and thinking it was going to chock full of gangsters, but El Paso is the best place to live in the US if you’re looking for the nicest people around…
@@jackbedient the Southwest has some of the best weather in the country. I live in Albuquerque and love it, although it's reputation is bad online, but in reality it's great. Btw, I'm from the east coast, South Carolina originally, and traveled everywhere from Massachusetts to Key West, and I wouldn't go back to live.
It’s very rare to really FEEL something when you go to the theater any more. But the tension before the border crossing scene and before they entered the tunnels was AMAZING.
Agreed
Denis Villeneuve makes movies that make you think. His film ARRIVAL was a thinking person's sci-fi movie. SICARRIO is a thinking person's crime thriller. PRISONERS is a meticulous mystery that leans into horror. And currently, both of his DUNE movies are shaping up to be his magnum opus. He may arguably be the most stylish and talented director currently working in modern cinema. Even his BLADE RUNNER 2049 sequel was considered to be an impossible task in terms of measuring up to Ridley Scott's original, but Denis V. knocked it out of the park and created a work of art that stands on its own. It would be great to see you watch his other films because they are worth it. Great reaction Asia and BJ!
I had no idea that Denis directed this movie, but now I love it. His DUNE movies are awesome, and based on those and this one, I will definitely check out BR 2049 and Arrival, if they are just as good as this one and those.
@@walteralcaraz5898they are just as good. Definitely check them both out. Prisoners as well. All 3 of those are on the same level of excellence as Sicario and the Dune films imo
Have you seen Indendies? A true DV masterpiece, so glad I saw that at the cinema with no clue what it was about. It still haunts me to this day it is just that good.
Great movie and reaction. This was written by Taylor Sheridan. He also wrote Wind River. Another great movie for you to review.
DV is the best director of current time... he came in and just made a bunch of great movies of all completely varying types.... crazy
This was a good one guys ❣️⭐⭐⭐
easy to make "great" movies when you have books you follow lmao 0 original work, just like the dumb clown brothers made a great tv show in game of thrones, the second they needed to actually create and improvise because book material ran out - total garbage
not better than QT, but definitely second spot.
@@gigatears2574 putting aside that qt doesn't qualify for this discussion because he is pretty much retired from the game and i said current time... qt isn't better AT ALL... i love qt but he is a very specific style and all of his movies share that style, it is not just "here is a great movie"... here is a qt movie... DV has done VERY different genres of movies equally well... and one of the most difficult types of movies to do well is sci fi and he has excelled in those too and again, in different ways
@@gigatears2574 QT is overrated af, but I know his fanboys will never believe that. The guy basically lifts exact scenes and ideas from other movies, adds his supercharged style (sometimes great writing, tons of violence, interesting cinematography, etc.) and that's it. His only truly original story, and his masterpiece imo, was Pulp Fiction (and he had a co-writer for it). *He's great at the technical elements of filmmaking, I'll give him that,* but most of his stories are either very simple, but look great, or he basically plagiarized a lot of the movie from other films. It's crazy how much he's copied.
"Dont forget about my daughter." What a powerful scene.
"Nothing will make sense to your American ears, and you will doubt everything that we do, but in the end you will understand."
Fun Fact: Having just completed "Everest" (2015), an exhausted Josh Brolin turned down this film. Cinematographer Roger Deakins sent him an email imploring him to join the project. Since it was so uncharacteristic of Roger Deakins to take this stand, Josh Brolin changed his mind.
Also, when discussing the score with composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, director Denis Villeneuve said he wanted the the sound of a threat. The one film Denis Villeneuve used as a comparison was director Steven Spielberg's "Jaws" (1975) (music by: John Williams).
Brilliant ❤
Also, the guy Alejandro was talking to was a Prosicuter. He was one of the good guys. But he was trying to operate within the laws of Mexico. He just knew Alejandro bc they were both Porsecutors fighting against the cartels.
I never in my life saw a movie that kept me on the edge of my seat from first frame to last. I hardly breathed first time watching this.
My sister was at the NYC premier and after party. Got to spend some time with most of the leads. She said BDT was quite a character and really down to earth.
Ahhh yes he was the Latino Brad Pitt when he was younger ❤
Make sure you watch Sicario 2 "Day of the Solado". Bless you both. They are close to start filming Sicario. 3. Sicario means Assassin. The guy talking to Alajandro when he had the water will be more prevalent in Sicario 2.
One of the best movies. That music made me tense the entire movie. Sicario 2 was not as strong, but very intense and complex.
27:08 the guy being interrogatted is Jon Bernthal who plays the "punisher" in the Marvel tv show which you guys should watch
No Benicio is the punisher
There are several other MCU actors in this movie. For example Benicio Del Toro is The Collector and Josh Brolin is Thanos. Daniel Kaluuya who plays Reggie is W'Kabi from Black Panther. The Maxmiliano Hernandez who plays the Mexican cop is Agent Sitwell from SHIELD.
Denis has consistently put out bangers for a decade. This is one of my favourites of all time.
That border scene? Easy top 3 segments all time
100%! I love enemy too
The Director did an amazing job creating an intense movie scene.
One of my favorite movies in the past ten years. Love Emily Blunt and Benicio. So intense and the score was so perfect. The sequel isn’t as good but still totally worth watching. It suffered from not having Emily in it. However, there’s a third movie coming out and Emily has signed on. At least the last I heard. Great reaction guys. Jessica Chastain was in Zero Dark Thirty, another of my favorite actresses. Sicario means hitman.
I liked the sequel a bit more but it was definitely different from the first film.
I just skipped to 40:00. One of the best scenes ever to be filmed
I’m lucky to have seen this movie in theatre with out seeing the trailer beforehand . I was blown away.
35:50 You cut it but thats the hardest line ever "Dont ever point a weapon at me again" after he put 2 in her bullet vest
important to the narrative too, as she points the weapon at him as they part for the final time, and they both allow each other to walk away.
One of the best movies, watch part 2 next. Seen it 5-7 times and not sick of it yet.
One of the best endings ever! React to District 9 (2009) and/or Apocalypto (2006).
This is the land of wolves now ✌️
Terrific choice. What a Movie. Please watch the sequel.
Different director, so it's not as good, but still pretty decent.
@@LiberPater777 Personally, I thought the sequel was terrific.
@@nickquantrill985 Well that's fantastic for you. I know it could have been better.
@@LiberPater777Good for you
@@nickquantrill985 It is.
Isn't it?
"whats the water?"
"to get some answers" lmao
The CIA has done that multiple times and every time there's a follow up investigation and every time they found out the "enhanced interrogations" didn't help at all. Turns out people just say whatever they think will make it stop.
Everyone shocked about this movie, but when you're from Michoacán México like me, the reaction you get are just memories
In the scene where they are briefing everyone before they go over the border.... The guy in the front asks.. "Now, Delta if you can identify yourselves, so we know who to hide behind if the shit hits the fan.."
Delta is considered the highest tier even above Seals. So these guys are true bad asses.
Incorrect. Tier 1 operators include delta and seal team 6
I love y’all’s reactions! I’m always looking for Asia’s “It ain’t been 5 mins!” Also, Asia is always asking poor BJ questions like he already seen the movie. Y’all watching it for the first time together. Hahha😂
We need to make her a T-Shirt that says that. Also, “I Ain’t Doin’ That!”
The convoy in this film is almost exactly like I experienced in Afghanistan. Speed and urgency is key in traveling beyond the wire.
A great movie for y'all to finally get into ... finally.
BJ: "I'm ready, are you ready?"
Aisa: "I'm ready."
Me: "You're not ready." 😈😈😈
The opening of this film is one of the most raw and disturbing intros ever.
The guys going into the tunnels with night vision were Delta Force. They call them Delta when they first meet up in the big room.
Omg great reaction from the both of you!!! This has to be one of my all time favorite movie. Definitely watch part 2.
Del Toro was so awesome in this. He is in everything though. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a great one. Y'all should check it out.
“Oh, it’s an action crime movie? Like Rush Hour or Beverly Hills Cop?” LOL. Yes, yes… like that.
LMAO!!!!!
Good reaction! In my opinion, they brought Kate in just for her to sign off that everything they did was "by the book". Great movie.
"I'm going home! I don't need to know nothing." That had me dying! LOL.
" Sicario: Day of the Soldado " is also a pretty damned good sequel. Looking forward to seeing you thoroughly enjoy watching that 😎👍
@@michaelwilder9938 Not me... I thought that scene was so completely realistic!
Day of the Soldado is interesting because it isn't really a sequel. It's the same characters in another story. Not the same universe where the events of the first movie took place.
@michaelwilder9938 Yeah man pretty cool. You can look up the director or writer talking about it. Can't remember who specifically it was
One of the best movies ever made. Great reaction
I loved this movie, I recommend it to everyone.
My nephew use to that kinda of stuff in the tunnel.
He was Army Ranger in Afghanistan in the mid 2000’s.
I like to believe what we hear in the interrogation room was Alejandro knocking him down in the floor, hitting him a couple times and trying to shove a rag down his throat to begin the water boarding process 🤷♂️🤔
You'd be surprised how many reactors think he's after something a bit more sexual
And, if you'll take note, the BAMF with the glasses let him drink his fill of water before hand, so he wouldn't be able to once "questioning" began. ;)
Yeah, No. That's not the reason those guys walked out of the room and turned off the camera. I'm sure waterboarding is nothing new to them.
@@PSAV76 it’s still illegal torture according to US laws and doesn’t need to be recorded or even documented.
You will also enjoy the next ones in the series! Never get tired of all the Sicario movies
No no, BJ, Emily Blunt was not in ZD30. That was Jessica Chastain.
Yes, watching it again made things clearer!
10:58 into it, Asia figuring things out from the get-go. I love your reactions. This is favorite of mine, like anything Taylor Sheridan or Villenueva does. The musical score and cinematography in this movie are so perfect together.
Underrated theory is that her partner was the mole for the cartel the whole time. He was the one who introduced her to the guy at the bar. Always trying to get info that he didn't need.
OK, now I am suspect of him, and I thought he was just a great friend, lol.
I think the partner character's purpose is showing that your partner can stand up for you as when he confronts Brolin's character, but can also be used by actual moles in the department and put you in danger. As in Mexico, where the federales are not always friendly and work for cartels, people in the justice system (including Benicio having had his family murdered) are always in danger by criminal forces.
Man! Hadn't thought of that! Hmmm... Lots of possibilities there for the next one.
The partner is a lawyer.
Yep. Dude was already at the bar waiting when they came in, and her partner picked the place.
Counter point - partner knew as much as she did, so unless he mistakenly thought she was sandbagging him it wouldn't make sense to go after her for answers.
Such a good movie you gotta watch part 2
Another money-grab sequel
It was aight.
The apartment you see her living in is actually a real apartment in Albuquerque that's called the Wellington Place. I used to live there and besides the draw curtains versus blinds there's not many things that they changed, anytime she's supposed to be in Arizona or Texas she's actually right outside of Albuquerque budget cost
Can't wait for Sicario 2. I loved it. Benicio makes it a great movie
Solid video, guys. Glad to see people spreading the word on this excellent film. I think it might still be Denis' best work.
Easily top three neo-westerns of all time.
I think this film has the best shots of Arizona skies. Beautiful filming with a dark story.
Ms. Asia and Mr. BJ, Wow! What a Great Movie! I'm never seen it Before. I'm enjoying it while watching. This is really My 1st time watching it.
LOVE this movie-- brilliant across the board.
Sicario: Day of the Soldado is a worthy followup, though Del Toro and Brolin are the only carryovers. Still worth the watch.
Love your reaction. Denis Villeneuve is frech Canadian (ville - town - Neuve-new). I aughed a lot when BJ said Villanuevey when reading the credits!😅
Love watching movies with you guys! Keep it up 😎
This is such an amazing film. It’s awesome to see you two watch this. Hope you guys see having a good weekend, take care!
This is such a great movie. Incredibly intense!!! Love Benicio del Toro. Also check out the Day of the Soldado that came out after this one. Thanks so much guys for this reaction!💞
And on to part ll.🍿🥂
Hello guys! This is one of my top ten movies. Alejandro is a legend called the ghost. You can also see him on call of duty games I guess. I saw first time Daniel Kaluuya first time on this movie. He is natural talent. Titanic captain is Bernard Hill. King Theoden also from the Lord of the Rings.
43:07 HAHAHA Asia is always hilarious
"He must be known as the punisher"
Who, Jon Bernthal?
😂😂😂
Exactly but she’s talking about Benicio 😂
Ok I might have missed someone saying this already and if so I apologize, Matt recruited Kate because the team is CIA and it’s against federal law for the CIA to operate inside the United States without a domestic agency, where Kate was FBI. FBI is kind of like cops but for the federal government so they operate in every state in the US. The CIA is the agency that’s responsible for protecting the United States and its interests outside of the US. So basically, the CIA are spies and enforcers around the globe outside the US and FBI are cops that deal with stuff on the federal level inside the states. Matt is CIA and he recruited Alejandro as his enforcer because he had reason to go after the Mexican cartel, Kate was needed so Matt and his team could “legally” work inside the US, and the strike team in the end were either special forces/SEALS or government contractors who used to be special forces/SEALS. Matt needed to push the cartel’s buttons with Manuel so bad so they could locate Fausto, the big boss in this film. You need to get to the second film just let in mind the differences among FBI, CIA, contractors (the military dudes and Matt’s friend with the glasses) and where they are “legally” allowed to work. Oh, and Kate saw things she shouldn’t have because our government was sending CIA and military forces into an allied country (Mexico) because the cartel was a bigger issue. Whether or not they had approval from the Mexican government that’s kind of up to the viewers. I feel they had some approval as the dude who was speaking to Alejandro before they messed up that dude in interrogation but if Matt and his team were identified they would probably have denied knowing anything about it. Watch the second one, you won’t be disappointed.
Excellent synopsis sir
@@julesjones2442 appreciate that, thanks
I knew you guys would love this film great reaction guys
Ooooooooh sheeeeet. This movie is bananas.
Great film thanks for reacting to this movie guys ! Another great film about the cartels is El Infierno . It’s in Spanish with English subtitles but a really good movie , cheers
We need Sicario 3!
That scene at the border, was so perfect, it should be textbook for how to build tension in a movie. They gonna be teaching that in film school for a long time.
rolling the windows down at the border scene is to accommodate the change in air pressure if you need to shoot from inside the car. if all the windows are up, you’re not hearing shit for a LONG time.
I look forward to your reactions! 'Uh oh' makes me chuckle every time lol. Seeing Jon Bernthal in here reminds me, please do 'The Punisher' series. Season 1 was amazing, Season 2 pretty good. Related cartel movies that are really good are 'The Councelor' (big cast of stars) and 'Sabotage' (arnold schwartzenegger).
Everyone we gotta get them to watch Prisoners. They'll love it.
Time for the second one! “Day of the dead”.
Asia "that's what I thought!"
I remember when I first watched this... the tension... the build up... then getting to the end... I was like "Damn!"... (Man On a Mission).
Every movie Denis directs is absolutely gorgeous, they are all great.
Really appreciate the fact you guys keep noticing the music . With nothing happening in the scene the music makes me nervous too . Great video
You guys have to see part 2😎💯🔥
One of the greatest films of all time. So underrated. Del Tor and Blunt putting in career best performances.
This cast was flames! Whoever the casting director was needs a fat envelope on this one, well deserved.
Two other must-see movies by the same writer: Wind River and Hell Or Highwater. Wind River may be my favorite of the three.
This was also my first time watching it. Great movie and now I have to watch Sicario 2.
Top shelf film
Now watch: Sicario: Day of the Soldado!!!
This movie is amazing! can't wait for you guys to reaction to part Sicario 2
Hopefully you watch the second one. It's hard to top a good movie, and other people say it's not as good but I think It's a good movie that has me still hoping there will be a third. Anyways, Great Movie. 😎
Yall gotta do all Denis' flicks. Dune, Prisoners, Arrival..
Also his name threw me off but his name is pronounced Denny Vil Nev
And the awesome music for this film like 11:11 to 11:48
This movie has one of the best scores of all time. Right from the first frame it knots up your stomach and doesn't let go until the end. Brilliant.
