    Am going on safari this week. Bought both the Peak travel backpack and the new Peak duffel/65L and have to chose one
    Packed them both up a few times with all my stuff, gear, clothes, camera, meds, etc. In the end I am going with the smaller travel backpack. Main reasons:
    1. Better organisation ... more ways to keep things within reach on multi leg air and land movements
    2. More comfortable on the back
    3. Nice tight feel, whereas the duffle allowed more slushing around of everything
    4. Actually fit just as much in compressed mode
    5. Certainty of carryon...whereas the duffle was iffy
    Hope this is helpful to some
    Curtis in Hong Kong

    I'm so hooked on peak designs stuff right now... their packing cubes are dope, field pouch is dope, tech pouch is dope, camera straps are dope. One thing i would love to see from peak is a smaller edc backpack... like 15-20 liters. You the man Chase!

    One thing you did forget to mention and it is advertised on the little tag/brochure that comes with the bag, is that using the compression straps - depending on how you have the bag packed, you can compress the bag to 35L, which should make it carry-on friendly.

    • @soonho96
      @soonho96 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      could you explain further on how the compression works? can't seem to find any review mentioning it online.

    • @xenon9887
      @xenon9887 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@soonho96 I know this comment is old, but i'll answer anyway. The top of the bag can be rolled up a little bit, and held down with the external carry straps included with the bag. It effectively makes the top of the bag end at the height of the shoulder straps.

      @Justin Doughty Really? This would be awesome. Because I am thinking about getting the 65l or the 35l. So if it really would be possible to compress the 65l down to 35l this would be the perfekt bag, because of the backstrap and shoulder straps. So far I couldn't find more informations about this.

    the "foreskin" is there because you can use the compression straps can be used to fold that down and hold it in place so you can reduce the size of the bag to 45L, which DOES allow it to be a carry on ! It really can do it all. We took this bag to Disney. I was able to carry it on on the way there, then used the extra space to pack the stuff we aquired on the vacation then checked it on the way home.

  • @ngking1

      I saw that video but you don't even need to do that to carry on. It's squishy so you can stuff it on as a carry on. Especially the black one as it doesn't stand out as too big for carry on. I've done it and many people have carry it on NP

    This bag has a place not mentioned. I can think of travelers who carry 2 bags on the way out (because having your stuff lost or damage on the way to destination suuucccks), but on the way back they want to lighten the load and check the bag (because who cares if your stuff is delayed when you are home anyway)? So you under pack it on the way out (and try to sneak by the gate agents with it lightly loaded) on the return trip, use the expansion option....move your stuff from your 2nd bag into this beast and check that sucker on the way home (no running around through airports making connections with the extra bag on the return trip).

      The LBB Peloton Asphalt is excellent - I own one. Love it. Given its target audience (cyclists) the tarp lining makes it kill it when out cycling in the ole deluge. Straps, top loader, side access and front pocket configs give it flexibility to carry a variety of loads inside & outside. One gripe for me is that it sits high on my back (i'm shortish) which is good for cycling, though a little quirky when walking as EDC (when packing light).

      @@chasereeves I personally found the 35L to be extremely well constructed but with serious conceptual flaw. The grab handles can easily get lost, stole's;en or misplaced. I have had the same problem with PD sternum strap on 45L Travel Backpack. I am on already my fourth in less than 8 months. Its really irksome to bother about something so trivial in between shoots.But it is important nonetheless and that is why now I have a few spares. I think same will be the problem with grab handles for 35L Duffel.

I tried it for a few days and then returned it and switched to duffel pack which by all standards is a beast of a hauler.

      Juan, the 35L duffel bag has a big-big conceptual flaw. Since the grab handles can easily be removed there is good chance of it getting lost in the transit or been misplaced. Since shoulder strap too is stowable, one could literally be stranded with a bag that is strapless.

    From what I see, this looks to be the new king of travel duffels. Only problem I see with it is that it is too nice and too expensive. $200 is a lot for a bag that is going to get destroyed in airplane cargo holds. Is only really going from A to B, and isn’t going to interact with you that much. It’s an amazing product, but really too good for what it needs to do.
    If you have to carry lots of stuff over lots of rough terrain for a long period of time across many locations, this bag is worth it. But I don’t think hardly anyone travels that way.

    • @chasereeves
      @chasereeves  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Eh, i disagree. I don't see this material being destroyed (some airlines, I know, can be really good at destroying bags), and I don't agree that "it's only going from A to B" means it doesn't need to do much. Getting from A to B *is* travel. And there are lots of shitty things that can happen between A and B. My love of good design is rooted in godawful and unnecessary experiences in life.
      You're right about this being in the running for a new kind of king of travel duffels.

    Does this have a shoulder strap? I would like to place a Sony FS7 in it, and hopefully it fits. But a shoulder strap is almost necessary, so the camera doesn't tumble around :)

      Minaal Crossbody is a great bag but only if they can slash the price by some 30% or so. It should ideally be in the $65-75 range.
