My first video on scrapyard knowledge. This video is about copper from the perspective of a scrap yard owner. The mission is to help others who want to make money by recycling metal a little more knowledgeable.
Your comment about "what are they paying me per pound" is all that maters. Before going in to the scrap yards by me, I check on line prices of the various yards. Also, I check to see what the market price is per pound. Nice video
No non-sense and to the point is your approach. Good sense of humor, good presentation, and good speaking skills. I learned something new and valuable. This was a good video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, time, and energy.
It's refreshing to get advice from an actual scrap yard owner. As a new scrapper it's greatly informational. It's THE BEST explanation of the different types of copper I have seen in my short career as a scrapper.
Bob, this was a really great question because I had to test it out and it's actually something I've never done before. I made a video this morning to try and answer your question. Hope it helps, and thanks for asking! Here is the link th-cam.com/video/u9icXEHLH3g/w-d-xo.html.
I Absolutely agree. I sometimes dont trust my scrapyard. I just get the feeling that if they could they would rip me off. I'm super careful about selling my scrap.
You're a great help!it's good coming from a scrap yard owners perspective because not many people know the difference between the different grades.thanks for the great information.a few things you stated I really didn't know.thanks a lot!👍
Sir, this is one of the more informative videos I've seen yet on TH-cam. I appreciate your sincerity especially in that you are in the scrap yard business. Excellent video. RIght to the point, good sense of humor and factual. Please keep the videos coming.
I did like your video, thanks for getting to the point. I know I spend more time on my material than is cost effective, but you "nailed it" when you mentioned it being therapeutic, I like sitting in my shop and breaking material down. Even my non-sorted steel is cleaner than most that arrives at my scrapyard. I sell year around regardless of price. The owner has paid me a bit better at times than what "his call in" quotes were. He made the comment to me that he hates using "old money" to pay his help and maintain equipment when times are lean. He thanked me for hauling regularly during those times. Building a good report with your scrapyard is very important also. I just enjoy the whole process and helping clean up the world a little.
Everything already said. I agree with every single positive point every commenter has said - all has been captured. I loved it and I'm going to now look and see what else you got thank you very much!!
I haven't made it past the introduction, and I already like your approach of getting to the point. So many people on youtube waste my time, and some never even get to the point.
Its great to finally watch a video from the yards prospective . your knowledge is second to none . keep the vids coming . thank you bracken recycling .
Hey great video, and its just what ive been looking for, someone who doesn't faff about on giving us valuable information on a certain subject. Even though im in England and where categories might differ to yourselves i still listened and watched your vid all the way through and true to your word it was all good info and no 5 minute trip to the scrap yard. I have now decided to search for scrap in my spare time. Thanks very much and i wish you well.
Thank you, Scrap King! I'll have more coming soon. It has been a very busy month, but I don't want to keep viewers waiting so as soon as I can, I'll be uploading more!
I’m from Victoria Texas, I have been scrapping a couple years and I finally understand a lot more from your video. Idk if because I’m female but they aren’t really friendly at my scrap yard so I don’t like to ask questions! I’m am to impatient to watch videos so I give your video a thumbs up
This was really helpful, thank you - as you said, there's a lot out there, but it generally comes down to people just throwing whatever terms their scrapyard uses without getting into what those mean.
I scrap as a hobby. It's like a treasure hunt that can earn you some cash. Instead of shopping scrap prices all over town, I deal with one yard. They are honest, consistent, and they pay a fair price. But that's just my 2 copper cents worth. I like your videos. This is good info. I didn't know that painted copper is #2. Thanks for posting. North Texas here.
thank you. I'm new to scrapping & hate those videos that waste time. I learned alot from this vid, you're right to the point & great sense of humor. Im subscribing.
+Bracken Recycling i will agree to a extent on what you said but lets face it. there is scrap guys out there who don't know their head from their butt. and on more then 1 occasion i have witnessed a scrapyard rip someone off. the best advice i can give ppl is to ask your friends about the reputation of a scrapyard before you visit them. i once was buying lead from a yard and the scrapyard guys were trying to push some ($0.80per lb) stripped lead insulation from copper rods on me that had seen better days. i noticed some darkened commercial lead ingots laying in a crate and asked about them. thier response was you dont want that its old junk lead. i asked them a price and they told me 0.35 per lb. needless to say i bought all 1,400 lbs of the ingots they had. these weren't bad ppl they just didn't know what they had and i always enjoyed business with them. in my area there was 6 main scrap yards i dealt with. 1 of these in particular if i was selling copper during those wonderful +$3 days i would tell them i already weighed it and if it wasn't within 5 lbs i was loading it back up. i never had a problem with them but i have seen them take advantage of ppl who don't know the business.
Been casual scrapping for years and everytime I go to a scrapyard I think how great it would be if they offered a course a few times a year in scrapping, theirs so much alot of us miss out there from just pure lack of knowledge. Id make more money the scrap yard would make more money and I guess we might even keep some good recycling out of the dump. I love this video wish it was around 20 years ago.
Thanks for being honest. And explaining grading. I found I get a better price if I stock pile copper and aluminum and sort it. Then make a run with those metals, instead of bringing in 10 pds at a time.
Good video and i appreciate your imput and the clarification from someone who understands scraping. I had to subscribe i look forward viewing other vids. Im a newbie technically im a Handyman who scraps on the side. So learning about scraping is very interesting to me as i also repair items if i can to make extra cash...theres always a bill to pay..thx for the vid!
Hi, thank you for making these videos. I've learned a lot from them. All the scrap yards in my area a like some out of Mad Max movie. Total chaos. Loud. People don't speak any english so you can't ask questions. They just make you dump everything on a scale, touch stuff with magnets. Print a receipt. The cashiers are behind blacked out plexiglass. You can't see or talk to them. Here’s my question. For many reasons, I have a lot of broken appliances around me. I was thinking of cutting of the power cables, pull the brass plugs out. I also get a lot of left over “lamp cable”, basically the same as power cables on cheap appliances. I use them at work. We do art installations. Also xmas lights. I was thinking of just dumping power cords into a 5 gallon bucket, when it fills up, take it to the scrap yard. Hope to make enough $ to get Chinese take out, and not have all those power cables go to a landfill. Do you get people coming in with stuff like that?
Thank you, I hope to make many more. Always feel free to ask questions and I will try to answer the best I can! I will apologize now for my response time now, I try and respond any chance I get free time!
Would love to see more of your vids, keep it up man you'll get up there just by throwing in that info people seem to skim over or altogether just don't mention. I'm building my own forge right now and was curious about the copper I had and why some seemed different than others. Some is red, some looks like brass or blonde hair, and then there's that good ol' copper color beauty.
Thanks for the video makes a lot of sense as for me I probably take a lot more time cleaning copper than I should. I would like to know where would be a good place to start looking for copper?
Thank you so much that really help me out big-time you answered just about every question I had in this video keep making videos bro there's a lot of people out here that scrap. Stay safe and god bless
As a buyer in a scrap yard theirs some educational aspects of this video. That copper breakage piece he showed though is worth cutting all that garbage off.
Your comment about "what are they paying me per pound" is all that maters. Before going in to the scrap yards by me, I check on line prices of the various yards. Also, I check to see what the market price is per pound.
Nice video
At last, a video straight to the point from someone who knows.
Starting a 3:20
Thank You sir for taking your time and giving us knowledge of what's categorized as #1 and #2 copper. Detailed and to the point.
No non-sense and to the point is your approach. Good sense of humor, good presentation, and good speaking skills. I learned something new and valuable. This was a good video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, time, and energy.
Nestor, Thank you for the kind words! I hope to start making some more I just need to find the time!
It's refreshing to get advice from an actual scrap yard owner. As a new scrapper it's greatly informational. It's THE BEST explanation of the different types of copper I have seen in my short career as a scrapper.
Bob, thank you for your comments! If you ever have a question about scrapping metal feel free to ask. Thank you for watching!
Is there any easy way, outside of buying one of those big machines scrap yards use, to quickly separate the copper tubing from radiators?
Bob, this was a really great question because I had to test it out and it's actually something I've never done before. I made a video this morning to try and answer your question. Hope it helps, and thanks for asking! Here is the link th-cam.com/video/u9icXEHLH3g/w-d-xo.html.
You answered one question no one could....You are great!!!!!!!
Thanks, I wanted to give you an answer quicker, but I wanted to get the video up first!
So much respect for this man's transparency!!!

Nestor, I couldn't agree more! I don't want to watch a guy ride around in his truck for ten minutes!
Thanks for posting this Hunter, you are doing the general public a service.

Aimee, you're welcome! And thank you for the kind words! I just added a new video so please check it out and I will try my hardest to keep em' coming!

Im glad this video rocked up on my suggestions list!

Hi, thank you for making these videos. I've learned a lot from them.

Here’s my question.
For many reasons, I have a lot of broken appliances around me. I was thinking of cutting of the power cables, pull the brass plugs out.

Hope to make enough $ to get Chinese take out, and not have all those power cables go to a landfill.
