Hey, now!! You can’t get any better at decorating, than to have an aluminum tree with a color wheel, and vintage ornaments! Heck any one of those items is better than a plain old green tree (real or faux!!) Why do you think they’re so costly?? Rare, yes. But they are also in the sentimental Christmas soul of so many people!! Me, for one! I literally made my parents travel an hour both ways, just to see my aunt’s 6’ pom pom tree every year, so I could lie in the floor and watch that wheel spin magic into my mind. I was promised that tree, but her kids threw it in a dumpster, “forgetting”, or not believing that I wanted it! I’m being given a 4’ one in a few days, and I’m about to die of excitement. I will forever stand up for those magnificent trees!!!!
I learned quickly years ago when I was an antique dealer to NEVER throw any piece of anything away……time and time again, my collection of little ‘junk’ pieces have come to the rescue when I need to preserve something. TFS your collection….I’ve even had ornaments with cardboard canopy made during world war II when metal was so precious in the war effort . I particularly like the Victorian beaded ornaments that are getting harder and harder to find. I read that Kugels were made to hang from the ceiling or beams
Yes they were frankly hung elsewhere ! The old cardboard ornaments are so hard to find the old die cuts ...no one seems to let them go ! Lol happy week
Love your comment as I had just noted my 'treasured' WWII glass ornaments with paper caps. My mother told me of the reasons when I was old enough to question why they were so 'plain' and later noticing they had different caps! I am a 'war baby', born in 1942! Thankfully I have treasured these special pieces that survived active kids and years of moves on the part of my parents who lived through war times with great resolve. I do look for them in thrift stores thinking somewhere some descendants of a time gone by pack them off to a charity store and now with Ebay and Etsy can find them posted though with very high prices! History in places and things we sometimes haven't 'seen'.

Hi ya Jeff . Well we're finished decorating for this year sort of . Send some pics on Friday, I'm busy today and Friday I should have five minutes LoL. Tammy finished the sleigh and my Santa looks his part . We're working rescue so this year busy days ahead . We are off to the vets today and Monday and Wednesday next week . Picking up a kitten to help out foster parents. I have glass ornaments that I put on my tree . I know it's sounds daft but when I hold one in my hands I remember every one from my childhood putting it on the tree in England. My dad saying don't drop them . I am very fortunate to have 3 dozen 1950 ornaments that we used to decorate my childhood Christmas tree. I cherish them very much. My father always did a wonderful job decorating for Christmas. I remember when I was about 10 years old I would be allowed to help him. He was very careful with his decorations. He even used "Angel Hair" on the tree so we didn't dare touch it. I still use these ornaments on my tree. I will pass them on to my 4 daughters.

Years ago my son and I went to an estate sale and bought about twenty old old ornaments. My best friend also collected hem so I suggested to Warren that we decide them up and share. He thought that was a good idea but cried through the whole process.😂 He was four. lol She is still my best friend and still has the ornaments. 👍💕

Wonderful video. I learned a lot. I have a 1960s aluminum tree with its original box and sleeves from my childhood. Dad built a stand for it for in front of our picture window and he'd put multicolored twinkle lights around that instead of using a wheel. After my parents passed away I was rummaging through a closet in the attic and found a big bag with boxes of the Shiny Brites and ornaments mom and I had made when I was a kid. One of my goals is to set up the old tree like it was. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and showing your lovely ornaments.
This is one of my favorite videos! My parent's hand beautiful old-world ornaments from Scotland that were very old, One Christmas, when I was 10 and my brother 6, we each got a cork rifle from our uncle and proceeded to the use the ornaments on the tree as targets, we shot all of them. I will never forget my mother's shock and the sadness on her face when she saw what had happened. Years later, when I was an adult, an aunt of mine gave me a box of these old ornaments that she had brought from the old country and said, " Put these ornaments on your mother's tree nest Christmas." This I did and she was so happy. I will never forget that Christmas.

Oh goodness, memory lane! What a wonderful collection! In our 'early years' our trees were small, sparsely decorated and that grew to major trees loaded with a color theme or 'shape' theme and through the years those many collections ended up in donation stores..we could only keep so many! But..I did manage to salvage the WWII effort ornaments that I'm guessing my mother could not part with! I wondered why they were so sparsely painted and then as I 'grew up' noticed that they had paper caps. Got the story of the war effort for metal and paint! 3 of them have survived and part of my treasures, thin hand painted sparse stripes with their paper caps come out each year and hold a prominent place on display. Not always on a tree now but revered on a nested (protective) display and will be passed down in the family to never forget an era that shaped us, where Christmas was full of prayer and hope and thinly painted striped glass ornaments!
I have many vintage 40s50setc..mercury ornaments,,as I carefully place on tree,,I always think about the previous owners who hung these precious gems on their own trees...I take myself to the time era.....,in the 70s,I remembered watching Happy Days,on Christmas break from school,,also I love Lucy, black and white Christmas movies,,I love the dishes,decor in that time period..especially "ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE ",,I love the background decor in 1940s

Lovely video. I can remember decorating our Christmas tree in my childhood, during the late 1960s. We had about 25 mercury-glass baubles, but all eventually disappeared. Started a new collection in 2010. Now have seven times that number on my tree including designs I remember as a child. Picked up many in charity shops for 10p, but in the last few years they are much harder to find, replaced by awful matt plastic. This year I purchased some glass grape vines and a few more bells in several auctions, and they cost a lot more, but I am well pleased. They really do glow next to the old bulb Christmas lights. Most of mine are 1950-60s, but a few are perhaps 1930s. A Merry Christmas from England, UK.

Just a fabulous collection! Thanks for all the great information. I love the vintage and antique ornaments and have several from my mom and dad’s first Christmas in 1931. I also have several from the WWII era that don’t have the silvering inside. All the material used to make the silvering went to the war effort. I have a huge box of vintage ornaments I bought at at yardsale for $5. I nearly ran to the car with them! What a deal!

I remember the aluminum trees and the color wheel, I looked for one a few years back but the prices were crazy. My grandmother had the aluminum tree for many years but none of my aunts remember what became of it.

Your collection of antique/vintage ornaments is super. My sister also collects and puts them on a special tree in her living room. I am wondering if the vintage ornaments should be handled with thin cotton gloves to maintain the paint decoration. It seems to me that the salts and oils on hands could degrade the paint. You probably know not to store anything in printed newspaper; however, many people do not realize the ink on printed newspaper is acidic and degrades finishes, silver etc. Unprinted newsprint paper as used by moving companies is much better. So for all of you watching this video, please store your ornaments and collectibles with unprinted newsprint paper.
@@MyTakeOnHomeGarden Definitely take care when using bubble wrap to store things over long periods of time especially if they are subject to heat and significant temperature changes. I learned from a professional appraiser that bubble wrap holds in heat and the heat causes damage over time. She recommended that those who store items in china cabinets/hutches etc.....open them up for 6-8 hours overnight at least once a month to let out the heat because it is the heat that causes more damage than dust or dirt.

we had an aluminum tree when i was growing up in addition to the regular traditional tree. I don't remember having the disk but I'm sure we did. The aluminum tree was in the upstairs bedroom. Do you have a Christmas pickle? Many of the concave ornaments that were my fmilies growing up, sadly have broken, i only have a few left.
Hi…love this video!! Thank you. I found two kugels recently and am having a hard time identifying the cap. They are 4” tall, one blue and one amethyst, both crackle, and weigh 260 grams each. The caps are more of a very plain matte silver with no embossing or markings. They do look old, tho. Any ideas? I have searched all over the internet and listings and can’t find a cap like this.
Usually the plain cap depicts older the weights of the older Kugels are 3 or 4 times the new ! I don't know the weights off hand ....like the MCM glass the minute you pick them up you can tell .....🎄😛

I have many vintage 40s50setc..mercury ornaments,,as I carefully place on tree,,I always think about the previous owners who hung these precious gems on their own trees...I take myself to the time era.....,in the 70s,I remembered watching Happy Days,on Christmas break from school,,also I love Lucy, black and white Christmas movies,,I love the dishes,decor in that time period..especially "ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE ",,I love the background decor in 1940s

Lovely video. I can remember decorating our Christmas tree in my childhood, during the late 1960s. We had about 25 mercury-glass baubles, but all eventually disappeared. Started a new collection in 2010. Now have seven times that number on my tree including designs I remember as a child. Picked up many in charity shops for 10p, but in the last few years they are much harder to find, replaced by awful matt plastic. This year I purchased some glass grape vines and a few more bells in several auctions, and they cost a lot more, but I am well pleased. They really do glow next to the old bulb Christmas lights. Most of mine are 1950-60s, but a few are perhaps 1930s. A Merry Christmas from England, UK.

Just a fabulous collection! Thanks for all the great information. I love the vintage and antique ornaments and have several from my mom and dad’s first Christmas in 1931. I also have several from the WWII era that don’t have the silvering inside. All the material used to make the silvering went to the war effort. I have a huge box of vintage ornaments I bought at at yardsale for $5. I nearly ran to the car with them! What a deal!

Your collection of antique/vintage ornaments is super. My sister also collects and puts them on a special tree in her living room. I am wondering if the vintage ornaments should be handled with thin cotton gloves to maintain the paint decoration. It seems to me that the salts and oils on hands could degrade the paint. You probably know not to store anything in printed newspaper; however, many people do not realize the ink on printed newspaper is acidic and degrades finishes, silver etc. Unprinted newsprint paper as used by moving companies is much better. So for all of you watching this video, please store your ornaments and collectibles with unprinted newsprint paper.
Never use printed paper maybe in shipping an already wrapped item that's it ! ..thank you for your share. .I like tissue paper and bubble wrap 🎄
@@MyTakeOnHomeGarden Definitely take care when using bubble wrap to store things over long periods of time especially if they are subject to heat and significant temperature changes. I learned from a professional appraiser that bubble wrap holds in heat and the heat causes damage over time. She recommended that those who store items in china cabinets/hutches etc.....open them up for 6-8 hours overnight at least once a month to let out the heat because it is the heat that causes more damage than dust or dirt.

we had an aluminum tree when i was growing up in addition to the regular traditional tree. I don't remember having the disk but I'm sure we did. The aluminum tree was in the upstairs bedroom. Do you have a Christmas pickle? Many of the concave ornaments that were my fmilies growing up, sadly have broken, i only have a few left.

Hi…love this video!! Thank you. I found two kugels recently and am having a hard time identifying the cap. They are 4” tall, one blue and one amethyst, both crackle, and weigh 260 grams each. The caps are more of a very plain matte silver with no embossing or markings. They do look old, tho. Any ideas? I have searched all over the internet and listings and can’t find a cap like this.
Usually the plain cap depicts older the weights of the older Kugels are 3 or 4 times the new ! I don't know the weights off hand ....like the MCM glass the minute you pick them up you can tell .....🎄😛
