  • Refinishing a wood table I got for free from my sister in law. The table is from Ethan Allen, solid cherry top with poplar painted legs and apron. The legs and apron are in very good condition however, the top was finished with shellac which is beautiful, just not hard enough.

Finally a decent video not only talking about it but also demonstrating how to do it, I am about to add my second coat of oil based poly and know what to do, thanks Craig,

Very thorough and easy to follow instructions. Not a lot of blah blah talk like some other videos I tried to watch. Thank you Craig! I now have the confidence to refinish my dining room oak table top! =)

Thank you for the video. I've just bought a table to do this to and it was exciting watching this and learning from you. I also didn't know about the fire hazard. Thank you :)

Thank you-I bought an old cherry gate leg table at a thrift store (for $4.59!!)--I'll need to strip the legs, too, but thanks to your video I can't wait for some decent weather to start on it.

Awesome video. I have a heavy cherry kitchen table that km gonna sand down, burn a design into and then stain and laquer. It'll be the first time I've done something like this but this video was incredibly informative which makes the whole project seem less daunting. Thanks a ton.

Thanks for the pointers and responses. Were not familiar with all the terms you've used but we are quick studies. The video was straight forward and easy to follow. We're going to do our first restore of a table I bought a couple years ago. Some of the finish has faded and cup stains are in the finish. The table is cherry wood with metal legs that needs some TLC. I'm going to get an orbital sander finish supplies as you suggested. It's a dad-son project. if it goes well, we plan to do more.

Thank you Craig. I thank you for the pointers and support. Im looking at your video and the damage you saw is similar to what we've seen.

Great video! Im restoring some furniture and Im pretty new at the hobby. A lot of great tips and thank you for showing how you applied the stain. I was using a Poly/Stain blend and it turned out to be a disaster. It was way to thick and I couldn't rub it into the wood. I would not recommend the mix and just do them separate like how you showed in the video.

Looks really nice. I did something similar with non flammable materials to re-finish a buffet I found at least 20 years ago, and it is still in use to hold my wife's China.

Very helpful! I've just sanded back the top of a round dinner table. I think it's pine but totally unsure, it's a very light natural wood but I want to stain it a warm darker colour as the base and legs are an antique white. This'll be my first time trying this so I'm scouring the interest for tips :)
