    Thank you very much for sharing as well as taking the time to make the video. Watching your video encouraged me to just rebuild them myself. Not only will it save me almost $1,000. I can also keep my braking system factory original.

      You can get all 4 calipers for less then 400$ canadian so not sure why you need to pay 1000 American....

    love your video and site, me and my wife are currently replacing the th400 in our 74 after pulling it out of winter storage I noticed the driver side rear caliper leaked out over the winter this video was helpful as I only rebuilt classic saab 99 calipers, on a second note I almost traded it today and decided to keep and continue with the car as i have grown to love the corvettes almost as much as i do saabs.

      Glad you liked it. Never heard someone liking Saabs over Vettes, but I have never owned a Saab and no nothing about them.

    Great video and many thanks. So I need to remove the metal brake lines and the loosen caliper retaining bolts and then mounting bolts.
    Thanks just became a sub!

    • @C3Stingray
      @C3Stingray  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to the brake line off. It is easier to break those caliper retaining bolts while they are on the car as they are really tight. 130 foot lbs on the front and 60 foot lbs on the back.

    Aloha and Mahalo, this was a very informative and simple video. Will definitely look into overhauling my calipers and will check out your website right after this.

    What is tool that you mentioned in your video to install the piston into the caliper? I’m worried about using a screwdriver on my new seals.

    I was interested in purchasing a rebuild kit for my 77 Vette. it’s been some time since you did your video, do your rebuild kits now come with O-ring instead of the umbrella seals? If they do, what’s been your experience with those verses the older umbrella seals?

    • @frankkeel8410
      @frankkeel8410 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Keep it stock as it was designed. The only problem is the Cali p er bore must be honed if there is no rust or scoring. If ust or scoring you need a professional to sleeve with stainless

    Thanks for the video. I’m having issues with the dust shield not staying and locking in place. Do you have any recommendations, I’m tempted to use an adhesive to seal and ensure it’s secure. Thanks.

      Is it rusted out? With the bolts through it I'm not sure how it would move unless the holes are rusted or wallowed out.

      I just hold my thumb on top until the lip is pushed in all the way around. Once the lip is pushed in the cylinder just pushes in.

    • @C3Stingray
      @C3Stingray  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I did not see this message, I'm sure you are done now. You have to hold some pressure on it with your hand as you work it in, otherwise it will just keep popping out. Once you get it all in it will slide right down. You don't have to put a lot of pressure, just enough to hold that spring down a little until you get the seal all the way in place.

    I have a 1981 Corvette one of the brake front calipers start leaking bought the kit to rebuild it just like you're doing when it came time to put the rubber seal with the lip on that was a nightmare put it back on the car leaking worse than before had to buy another kit that one didn't work. And wind up buying a brand new rebuilt caliper. I won't be doing that again. You got a good video 👌😎 but not for me....

    • @C3Stingray
      @C3Stingray  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your cylinder walls are bad it will leak You need to feel the walls to makes sure there are no scratches or other deterioration. If it was leaking that bad you probably didn't get the seals in good. It can be a little tricky some times. Sorry it didn't work for you.

    • @villafamily805
      @villafamily805 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve heard that the dust shield seal specs and thickness are different depending where you buy them. I went through two kits from different stores and ended up buying a third kit from NAPA and that sea was just snug and tight enough, I almost gave up as well and was about to buy a rebuilt caliper as well.

    That's not a Stingray. 76 was the last of the stingrays. Everything after 76 was just a corvette.
    None the less still a sweet car.

      It is just the name of the channel C3 Stingray. I work on a lot of Vettes that aren't Stingrays, just liked the name. You should check out my C3 Stingray game video.
