The mom wanted to keep him until she could save enough money for a proper burial - and yes, she was still collecting welfare checks on his behalf. If she really did want to keep this all hidden, she likely would have found some hole to bury him. Don’t get me wrong, what she did was all sorts of wrong, but a destitute single mom on welfare with 4 other kids and two jobs…I don’t condone it but, if true, I understand it. How she thought her 4 girls would keep their mouths shut is beyond me. At court, she didn’t even fight it - she pled guilty right away.

Again, I’m not saying she was in the right or that she should avoid punishment - but I get it that poverty of circumstance and choices can lead to mind numbingly awful choices - but she could have easily buried the body in a forest (plenty of those in the Quad Cities area) but she chose to keep him until she could save the money to properly bury him. It all rather morbid.

Parents can say they sent their child to live with a relative and withdraw them yet their siblings stay enrolled. We wait for records requests but parents have that right and there is nothing school staff can do. Someone in the neighborhood had to hear something but no one wants to be a snitch. And yet a young boy is dead.
Abusive parents will take their kids out of school and register with the state that they are being home schooled. Some states have criteria for in person visits, some don't. It's easy for a kid to "fall through the cracks"

That is a crime against humanity. How can they allow for these sentences to be so inconsistent. There is no way that "mother" should ever be out breathing the same air as normal people (you know, the ones with souls.) Drug possession for personal use shouldn't even be a crime you can serve time for in my opinion. Should be a small fine or mandated treatment/counseling. Addiction is a disease and so often people become addicted because they were self-medicating for legitimate problems that they have difficulty obtaining proper treatment/medication for. Many meth users have undiagnosed or untreated ADHD. There have been MANY people, myself included who got addicted to fentanyl, heroin, or another opiate because they have chronic pain conditions. We need to stop villainizing your average addict. Addiction is a disease.

A po, It wasn’t my actual Probation officer just someone who helped her while she was on vacation telling me if I continue to drop positive (I was on probation for 2 months) then maybe we should talk about prison since this isn’t working for me.
I was shook bc I have a friend who never got clean while on probation, only went to rehab once but still using. His probation is supposed to be done by now.

I’ve been in Law Enforcement for almost 25 years. Seeing a deceased child is an absolutely horrible gut wrenching experience. Nothing bothers me, but that does.

Believe it or not, there are a good number of positive moments police officers experience, (I'm no officer FYI) but it is such a necessary job with beyond awful things you see. There aren't words to describe some things police have to see.

She was charged with fraud, crimes related to hiding his body, false statements to a police officer, and endangering the life or health of a child. She plead guilty and they dropped everything but the felony endangerment charges. She received 2 years as part of the deal and will have to serve probation after a year. She was already in jail for a year.
She claims she did it to keep her other children fed, but she likely wont have any of them back in her legal custody after release. If she does, it is because she had family step in and then she took steps to demostrate herself safer as a mother.
She got what the state thought was fair. If it is right or not, i cant say.

His left arm locked up in the hospital and the reason being that they did minimal exercise with him despite him being able by week 2. When he came home we decided the best route was the increase the level of exercise we do and hire a PT, ST & OC to help with his recovery. Our first experience was with a company that sent a woman over to ask us what we were looking for, what they could offer and to establish a schedule. She came twice for the same thing, completely forgetting who we were when she arrived back only a week after our first meeting. We were expecting the PT that day. The following week the PT arrived, smelling of cigarettes with a guy who needed to have a nasal tube for oxygen at times during the recovery process. He looked at my client up and down and told us that he wasn't able to do anything for us.. after some convincing he moved his legs up and down and his arms back and forth about 10 times each and asked for a signature. What he didn't say was that the signature was for 2 weeks of PT that he has not completed yet. We refused to sign and he was visibly upset & took his leave with an attitude. Scammers to say the least and that was the last time we dealt with them. Sick people are out there, even in caretaking they went without a reliable option for 7 years before they found me. He's passed on now and he lived every day to the fullest before he moved on
