    I've been driving for almost seven years and I still get screwed sometimes. 2 days ago I got a ride. And was stuck in traffic 41 hour and eight minutes and I made fifteen dollars... I called up uber and the guy I got on the phone was drunk. He was making fun of my name. He screwed up and accidentally called himself by my name several times. Making less than minimum wage is embarrassing.

    Love your work.. hate Uber. Today I only drive Lyft. Uber doesn’t pay enough, nor do they give us the information we need. They think we NEED them..if all drivers would stand together, they, would need us. Anyway.. thanks for all you do. Be safe yall.

    Good job, Alex! Great history on the the SFO streets! I bailed to LAS, in 2016.
    Homeless and carless, I started with a Lyft lease car, in 6/18.
    In ‘89, my knowledge of getting out of the City got me back to Burlingame after the Earthquake.
    Driving in Las Vegas is totally different than the Bay Area. The demand in ‘Vegas is cyclical; not the same day-to-day. We’re on the up-side now, with Google Cloud Convention and AMS on the way!
    What’s all this mean? It means, you have to have an intricate knowledge of the job, a business plan and most importantly the streets to get around!
    Good job!!

    Last week while headed to a small $3.50 fare i git stuck behind a long freight train 1 and 1/2 mike long . Train stoppad to repair the engine. Along with anout 15-20 cars, we were all completely stuck behind it because the train was stopped and cut off our forward progress. After sitting there for over an hour i followed another car who tried going wrong way in a 1vway street. Whew! My night was derailed, pun not intended. All for (bleeping) acceoting a $3 fare... No more.

    Thank you guys for being the Trailblazers of Ridesharing information and transparency. I've also been listening to a Podcast called "More Than "Just" A Driver" on Spotify where fellow drivers share their frustration about Ridesharing as well. They have topics like "unaccompanied minors", "insurance", "passengers being able to use fake/alias names" but not drivers, "Rideshare rating systems etc. etc..... So it's good to see we all have the same common problems Ridesharing no matter what market we are in.

    Thanks, I enjoyed this!
    I'm getting ready to retire from my Librarian position after 25 years without owning a car in Seattle (but I do still drive regularly, using ZipCar or renting one for a weekend or a month when I am off in the summers), and am thinking of buying a car and doing ride share.
    In the 1990s I drove 7-9 passenger vans and occasionally Town-cars for Shuttle Express, mainly on the overnights (@9pm to 7am), and really enjoyed it. At the time we used a Thomas Guide for navigation (cell phones were just coming out, so we just had two way radio to communicate), and started the night with a maybe one pick-up to Sea-Tac, then at the airport to pick up passengers who had called for rides at the airport, bringing them to their homes or hotels, then we hoped to have a few pick-ups heading to the red-eye outbound. In the wee hours, after getting our list of morning pick-ups we did our routing of stops on the way to the airport, using the Thomas Guide (Zip Code Edition was mandatory!), starting around 5am at our first resrvation. Usually 2-4 stops on the way in, then the last trips were from Sea-Tac to mainly hotels from the red-eye flights. Then to the gas & garage to wash and vacuum, then home.
    The dispatchers tried to assign people to our vans that could be dropped off in a logical and efficient route, so they were not on the van too long, We operated in three counties around Seattle. We were paid on commission plus tips. I think the "base pay" was $5.70 an hour, which we always exceeded. I remember the average tip was around $2 a person. The best trips were when the passengers started talking to each other and you could just concentrate on driving.
    We did not take cash (except tips), but had a manual credit card machine with carbon copy receipts, and we took personal checks! We figured that if someone has money for a plane ticket, checks would not bounce!
    Deciding on and finding an appropriate car (and a spot to park it when I am not driving) will be the challenge. A Prius or Soul seem the likely picks, but I would love any suggestions of milage, price and cars to avoid! Thanks again!

      I’m glad the video resonated with you. Congratulations on your retirement. The Rideshare Guy channel is the greatest resource for information! Also you are in Seattle, Rideshare drivers Shangri-la 🚙 with probably the highest fares thanks to the local grassroots movement and enlightened legislators. If memory serves me well Sergio had an episode with a veteran driver in Seattle. The other comment suggesting a Prius is right on the money as far as fuel economy and reliability. Although I purchased a brand new Ford Fusion since Ford was offering 0% interest, my main goal was the driver’s seat comfort, but actually after driving Ford cargo vans for decades I must say I made a mistake (for me) choosing a sedan because the seat is always no matter how you adjust it leaning a bit backwards. I find that minivans are the most ergonomic as far as the driver seat. A Toyota Sienna is a great example, I kid you not, my sister had one for her dog walking business and took the passengers seats off and gave me one to sit in my living room since I find it so comfortable! The Rideshare Guy has many postings not to purchase a new car, and I agree wholeheartedly, the depreciation alone is enormous and driving Rideshare takes a toll in the car. I don’t know your market but if there’s airport rides to be made it’s worth to investigate if XL higher pay offsets the low fuel efficiency. Also you get tips from passengers who appreciate extra room on Uber X. See the episode on Behind the Wheel with the author of the book I mentioned Jeff Hoenig, The Sunshine Man, who drives a Ford Transit passenger van that doesn’t even qualify (insanity from Uber) as XL, he gets more tips than anyone I know (also due to his creativity). I have been driving with my sister in her Nissan NV 200 cargo van and although the seats are more ergonomic than my Fusion (the Prius I find to small for me), still it isn’t nearly as comfortable as a Sienna. Lastly here in San Francisco there’s an ordinance that taxis must have either leather or vinyl seats for higiene purposes, it’s worth it to invest in a impermeable seat covers and molded rubber mats, and a dash cam linked to the cloud like DisplayRide recommended by Sergio. Good luck and all the best!

    I have a question. RSG seems to educate drivers on this business. Can we talk about Supply and Demand of these markets? Can we educate drivers on supply and demand. Drivers are the supply side of this. The TOS gives power to decline and create fair pay for drivers. Why can’t you RSG’s inform drivers of the power of the decline button. Just two days of declining BS offers will cost Uber/Lyft how much money? What’s a fair $/mile to accept? What does accepting lower than that $/mile does to the supply side of the market?
    Drivers seem to have all the power here. Without supply, there is no market. Demand alone is like having an open store, full of buyers with nothing to buy. Just an empty store. So why not educate drivers on the power of a store without items to buy while having billions of buyers looking to buy? This is the business model of app based platforms. If drivers hold by declining till the offer fits a standard, what will it do the market and it Uber/Lyft.
    I mean not by answering my comment, but by discussing this in the RSG material…

    • @sergioSMTMC1
      @sergioSMTMC1 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We talk about supply demand all the time, however one thing I disagree with that the drivers have all the power, quite the contrary

    • @howardfletcher7206
      @howardfletcher7206 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Drivers who cherry pick may not get so far. If there is a sufficient number drivers who do not hold the same standard in pay per mile the network will find that person and offer the low ball trip. Understanding costs not easy for many to do. Some are under so much pressure to get some money they comply. Refusing bad offer after bad offer is hard too with the pressure the system exerts with logging you off. Uber and Lyft have power to idle a driver. One good trip with 20 minutes of declines makes for the same pay, so eventually you realize this is their way. Not much can be done unless enough refuse and that’s not happening anytime soon.

    Is "diamond" airport priority the same thing as "re-match"? Maybe it's different by market, but in my market (Tampa) both are bull droppings.
    With or without diamond, waiting in the airport queue can be 90 minutes to several hours plus.
    Without or without diamond, I get a "rematch" on about 80% of my dropoffs.
    uber trying to convince drivers that "diamond" status makes a difference is just more of their mind effery.
    I think this guy is drinking the uber koolaid when it comes to believing the tripe uber puts out.

    • @alexsf4248
      @alexsf4248 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At the San Francisco International Airport (SFO), during busy times a non Diamond driver can receive offers as they drop off a passenger but that’s a hit and miss, also recently any driver can receive Radar offers at the airport parking lots, the problem is there’s literally hundreds of drivers all day long with the exception of very early in the morning when there’s very little arriving flights. Most non Diamond drivers wait for well over an hour or more, with Uber X competing with Uber Green, Comfort, XL, Black, Lyft and so on. As a Diamond driver you’re not guaranteed to get a passenger before heading to the parking lot but if it’s busy you get a ride before leaving the airport. If you’re lucky to get a passenger at the international terminal you don’t even need to leave the airport. If you don’t get a passenger right away you do get a priority queue in one of the categories you qualify (I’m Uber X, Green and Comfort), if I have to wait a little at the parking lot I stretch, use the bathroom or even walk a bit, so it’s time well spent. The SFO is technically in SF but it’s really 13 miles from SF Downtown where you get most of the rides, so driving to the airport for about $15 and coming back empty is a loosing proposition. Being a Diamond driver in SF is a necessity.

Delivery of medical supplies is a great option here since the biotech industry is very prevalent. Your scenarios are extremely unlikely. California is one of the most profitable places for the Rideshare industry. The current labor laws were originally written in 1935 and updated up to 1974. I never been the bean counter type but I keep track daily my online hour earnings. I did send to Sergio all my earnings this year and tax summaries for the last two years to track my mileage. I just crushed my numbers since during the interview I was going by memory and estimated and became pleasantly surprised. My online average this year not including the prop 22 medical supplement was $36.31 per online hour. With the two payments of the supplement ($1,417.00), it bumped my average $40.21 per online hour. I should say that since I retired last year I haven’t yet pulled the morning shifts regularly that certainly would increase my daily average. Sergio was correct that tipping is currently around 10% (income). I averaged 11.08% tipping income this year.

    I want to talk to you and put this out on your channel. I took Uber to court ⚖. They gave me a temp judge. The judge never allowed me to prove that I was innocent of what a passenger complained about. He refused to look 👀 at any of my evidence. He then asked Uber to admit in court ⚖ that they can fire you even if you don't violate the "Terms of Service"... She fought tooth and nail 💅 not to say it in court but, she finally admitted that Uber can fire you even if you don't violate the terms of service. I think 🤔 that is important information ℹ to put out to drivers and riders.

I missed $160 pay out yesterday with Lyft bc I had an appointment scheduled but she was no show that was upsetting. I do late night driving so morning commute hard to wake up for. I do 7-10 and 3-11 or 12am. Mid day is slow unless doing Uber eats.
