- Next up-Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia!
We actually delayed our arrival in Plitvice for one day because it had been raining for nearly a week before we arrived. In order to ensure there would be good weather, we stayed one night in Zagreb, Croatia before hiring a driver to take us to Plitvice, Croatia where we would remain for the next two nights. 2:09
Plitvice was what I wanted to see the most when I planned this trip. Once we arrived at the Hotel Degenija, the man behind the desk told us that the tickets to Plitvice were sold out for the park for the two days that we would be there. Paige and I did some internet research for ourselves and found out that there was a way to claim standby tickets for both days, so we set out for the park ourselves. 3:15
As it turns out, we were able to get the tickets! Apparently we were at Plitvice during the start of what they were referring to as “Croatia Week”-a special week where the tickets would cost 5 euros, instead of 50 euros-quite lucky for us! 4:30
We started on loop B, as was recommended to us by the hotel. The colors clarity of the lakes at Plitvice are truly remarkable, especially with the sun shining on them! The flow of water was so high because of the amount of rain that had fallen from the week before-you can even see the water flowing through the walking paths! 5:58
About a mile and a half into the hike, Paige and I stopped for lunch. She had a burger and I had the pierogi. 8:44
From there we continued on the loop B, and that included two boats and a bus ride to get us back to the Plitvice park entrance that we started at. 10:07
At the end of the day we decided to walk back to the hotel before dinner, and a good night of sleep before we woke up early to play the standby game again the next morning! 11:43
