"I was trying to fit in by listening to the Newsboys."
Such a relatable experience. I discovered PTL in 1997 around the time the Whole EP was released, I was 16 and embedded in the evangelical church. I'd moved from Fresno (just south of Modesto) to Seattle (Bothell) in 1992 to live with relatives. To me, then, Dave's lyrics were a breath of fresh air, so very human, yet still with the intention of understanding god. I remained a huge fan from that point forward, and coincidentally, I'd completely abandoned religion by 2003. To this day, I listen to PTL/DB regularly, I find it insanely comforting, even when it stirs up old emotions from the past.

Excellent interview. What a long and interesting journey Dave has had with his life and career. After all these years of listening to his music I finally moved to Seattle and met Dave in person. He is a real artist and someone who I respect very much. Looking forward to what the future brings 🎶
