+Heisenn burgg My High School never taught me to write a resume. I wish they taught us about taxes, how to buy a home, how to use credit, not get into debt, how to take out a loan, important life skills.
+95klopez Thanks for your comment. I agree that schools should teach personal finance. But, regarding your comment, if you are using credit and taking out loans, you ARE going into debt. Schools should be teaching students how to save up for the things they want to purchase.

I needed to figure out a resume for a scholarship. I thank you good sir for helping me out on this. TH-cam has everything you need for help in the real world.
You should make a video on how to create a resume for a first jobs. And help lists with first things that would look good on resumes for jobs like; coffee shops, pizza parlors, other restaurants, safeway, and gas stations. Things like that would be helpful for teens applying for the first time. But it's just a suggestion.

i didn't use this info for a resume, but rather to learn how to make columns. i have just been hired to do some book transcription and didn't know how to get it to set up like the sample that the business owner gave me that another transcriptionist had done. the use of the tables was new to me and it works Perfectly!!! i couldn't find Anything else to show me how to make the colums After i already had a section at the top typed and didn't want to include that in colums. so, thank you for posting... you are teaching more than Just resume building!

I just finished formatting my nieces resume (on the first try) now onto your other videos to learn how to insert vital information for her to move forward in changing her career after 13 years in the Retail Sales field. Thank you this is the most helpful thing I've found on the internet because I just wanted to know how to make my own resume simply and easily without needing a template and wanted to be able to control the format. Basically this is exactly what I needed, thank you so much for this video. It's frustrating when you can't get a basic question answered. I asked everyone I knew how to do this and everyone said "I dunno I just use a template".

That is a good question. I think that what I would do if I was still in high school is write an objective that specifically matches the job for which I'm applying, move education to the top with my high school name, anticipated graduation date, and relevant classes. Then, instead of "Work Experience," I would do a section for any special, related skills I have. Also, if you have done any extracurricular activities (clubs, sports, etc.) it certainly wouldn't hurt to list those activities.

@Carl Tanner No problem! I'm glad I could help. As far as Word's templates go, I actually created this video to help people steer away from them. Employers can usually tell if someone used a template. Furthermore, some users will forget to replace placeholder text in those templates. The method in this video forces one to enter all data manually. Also, as you mentioned, doing it this way leaves room for customization. Thank you for your comment, and thank you for watching!

I believe it should carry over. I would have to see the document. Otherwise, you could simply copy and paste (then delete old info-add new info), or you could always recreate the table on the second page.

What if I don't have any work experiences? What do I put and also do I still include the "work experience" heading?
In that case, you can put a "Skills" or "Experience" section and include skills, accomplishments, etc. from extracurricular activities, church groups, volunteering, etc.

Very helpful! Wow, I am baffled by how this worked. I actually copied a template from online and tried re-formatting what they did, but I could never figure out why it was so wacky -- I now know it's because there was secretly a table hidden within the document. Excellent tutorial!
