Looking really good so far, Maurice. This is SOOO needed. I would vote for a larger capacity. Machine knitters (knitting garments and flat panels) go through LOTS of yarn, and I would really love to see a larger capacity - up to 1 pound! Thanks for your work on this.
I can't wait for this to available. I received my Nano spinning machine and I love it so much. With sciatica it becomes difficult to foot peddle my regular spinning wheel so this is so wonderful. So now this invention will just be a wonderful addition to my spinning projects.
Excited to see this progress! Will the cones be a "standard" size? I use a cone winder fir my circular sock machine. I have 3-d printed cones (royal winder) and cardboard cones from Earlbacher. Unfortunately they don't work on the same winder from what I've found. Thank you!!
Right now I'm just trying to get it to work with an optimial sized cone. I will then think about supporting other size cones/bobbins. One issue is the more sizes I support the bigger it will get and that will increase cost. So this will be a balancing act and I haven't decided what I'll do with these yet.
@@DreamingRobotsBlog i understand that issue. Cost is what appeals to most. Maybe consider optional adapters for various types of cones. As fas as i know, there are the Royal cones, Earlbacher cones and Nancy's Nicknacks. I'll check around.
@@lynndukes3870 There are also industrial cones that have pretty consistent sizes. If all I need is an adapter then I would likely support it via a 3d printed part. My concern is a simple adapter won't work if the cone is a significantly different length or too large of a diameter. Shorter cones would require a different drum, which might be something that could be 3d printed, but that wouldn't be ideal. Larger diameter would require changes to the base and that is something that would increase the cost for everyone.
Very interesting, I think I need one of these like you say for the knitting and crocheting, but I am just starting to weaving also. Very clever design.
Maurice...seems like we are on the same page. I hope the design you are working on will also adapt for the Structo looms. Will be waiting with excitement. Thanks Raine
They are widely used in the textile industry, but they are mostly referred to by their Chinese name (I don't read Chinese, but I have a contact that had trouble finding them until we found the right word in Chinese). In English I think they are just usually called a grooved drum for the textile industry.
YES! YES! YES! As a Spinner, Weaver, Dyer, Hand and Machine knitter, I would say this is a product that is LONG overdue. Being able to wind cones, as well as both spinning and weaving bobbins would be tremendously helpful. Perhaps you could also consider making solid cones for storage and mesh cones for dyeing?
I hadn't gotten a request for a mesh cone, but that is something I will consider. They way I typically do things is I need a lot of interest in an idea before I do it because the way I keep my prices low is I setup and manufacture fairly large batches (1000 ish units at a time) and that lets me get much better prices when making the items. Do you have an example of mesh cones that people use for dyeing?

Where did you find that winding drum? I can't find any online sellers that aren't in India.
I have a supplier in China that found them for me and they are only interested in working with people who plan to potentially buy a lot of them so that won't work for you. However, I just checked Alibaba.com and found they have some similar options there.
It is certainly progressing. I've made some good progress since my last update here, but right now I'm focusing on the yarn counter since I just launched a kickstarter for that. What will happen with that Kickstarter is at some point I'll have the design done and will just be waiting on parts and shipping. When that happens I will have lots of time to finish the cone winder. At this point I'm pretty happy with the design myself (though I still need to implement one more software feature) and need to get it out to a few beta testers I've already selected to get there feedback and see what kinds of things I need to tweak before going to manufacturing.
I'm still improving the prototypes. I expect it to be ready later this year. The best way to get updates is to sign up for my monthly newsletter at the bottom of www.dreamingrobots.com
Thank you so much. With the help of your video I am successful in development of drum winding machine. It has come out very well and it looks very professional... Please share your email I'd and I shall share few pictures. Thanks

I'm loving this!! I'm starting to machine knit and this is going to be wonderful for my handspuns!!

Thanks for the feedback. I will target 1 pound, but I don't want to make promises until I'm sure about capacity.
Can't wait for you to launch this!
Velly, velly cwever! It’s great to see an elegant design in action. I don’t spin or knit but could see having one just for the cool factor. Well done!

I see that Fiber Artist Supply in Cincinnati is also working on a design. It will be interesting to see how the final products compare.

@@DreamingRobotsBlog i know there are so many variables! Thats a huge problem.

I wish you the best of luck. I have a CSM that I'm not using for lack of a cone winder. They are impossible to find!
This is going to be so cool! Do you think you'll bundle it with the yarn winder? If not, no biggie, I'm just looking forward to using it
If you use a transvere winding drum groove on your feeder drum you only need one direction of movement to wind back and forth
Hey dreaming robots ... could you tell me what that drum is called the one that guides the thread ... id love to know the name of them

Hi there! Did you ever go further with this design? Or would you be willing to sell the 3D print file? Thank you!
I'm still working on improving it. I will release it when I'm happy with it and a bunch of my testers have also given me the thumbs up.
Oh man! I need this SO BAD! I can’t wait to have (several of) these! When do you think it’ll be ready??? SO EXCITING!!!!
O hi! What if like this drum use for spinner? But in these positions will be a guide to engines for laying the thread (sorry for ma English)
Love this!

Precio de esa pasadora???
will it be able to wind 5mm rope??
I think so, but I'm not sure yet. I have only tested to 3mm so far.
Hi nice video could you let me Know wat is the comertial name of this item please 🙏 and if you have on sale I can buy some from you.
Thank in advance
