When you have the best OL in football. The best combo backfield. The best WR combo with speed and possession and a soon to be Pro Bowl Tight end. You don’t need a creator. You need a game scheme specialist. This was the better hire given the talent level of the offense.
My man! I am less and less worried about losing Johnson. Your point about scheme was so true in our playoff losses where Johnson seemed to have no proactive strategy.
( Mr Ed) I'm good with the new OC and DC I think they will do a great job. Now it's time for Brad to get all the free agents they want to keep signed before they get away. Then get to work on the draft, and Brad, please, no projects thus year.
It doesn't take a degree in neurology to know Goff had an concussion after that hit. He was 8-10 with 120 yards and a TD before then. The fumble should've never happened! Empty backfield on 3rd&1, when your RB was UNSTOPPABLE!? RUN THE BALL!! We pick up the 1st, score a TD and the fumble never happens! Up 2 scores, the pick6 never happens and Jamyr Gibbs dominates the entire game!! LIONS WIN!! Not all on Goff!!
I was one of the VERY few fans worried about the game against WC. I didnt think it was a good match-up for us, but my main concern going into the game was Goff and the coaches, baring no more injuries because after this season we all were worried about injuries. I was worried about Goff's mindset/playing at home and I was worried about the coaches lack of reading the room and in game adjusting. Dan said they cant get frustrated. I saw one main player get frustrated, Jamo. When your frustrated you make bad decisions. The playcalls were off, and desperate due to frustration as well. I dont see good chemistry between Goff and Jamo either. Jamo is not a reliable guy in a high level game. Goff feels more comfortable with Patrick
Will i understand what your saying about Goff and I agree. Also, whenever i bring him up, people are one extreme or the other. You can't have a rational convo sometimes with fans. Some people can't take emotions out of it. I 100% agree he is not a QB who can will us to a SB, he needs perfect conditions, but you never have perfect conditions going into a playoff game or Superbowl. I also question DC sometimes too. Doesn't mean i dont think he's a great coach. 🤷♀️ but at the end of the day i support this team, and its not in my control anyways so i roll with them. They just have so much talent i hope to see them win a SB with these guys. I hope we never lose Gibbs, Amon, Monty, BB, Bates, Sewell.
We need to fitd a D coordinator that has the ideas and ability to create a scheme for all of the emerging running QB's in the NFL. THAT is the way so many teams are going and it is certainly working. This year proved that a team can still score BIG points playing old school offense. As I see it, the problem is in the defense of the Bills, Chiefs, Commanders, etc.
So from what i understand is goff had some say on the OC. My question is or thought is, since goff worked with him before maybe he feels more comfortable with morton than a new guy? Not sure, hopenit works
Jared playing against the Commanders, reminded me of his Super Bowl performance against the Patriots in 2019. When the bright lights shine on you during a one and done type game...Jared fails. He looked as helpless in both games.
He was 8-10 with 120 yards and a TD before the pick 6. He CLEARLY had a concussion after that hit and should NOT have been cleared to return. Terrible play calling played the biggest role in that loss.
You guys don’t know Jack this quarterback won more games than anyone in Detroit history and he getting head hunted and with all the injuries they have had but we are getting into playoffs when we haven’t ever been there so we will be back again Buffalo Bills have been to 4 Super Bowls and haven’t won anything ✔️
I can get on-board with the Goff take, but I still stand behind his potential at this point for two reasons take it or leave it. Play calling wasn't great that entire game. You're absolutely destroying them on the ground and you decide to pass all game even when you have time to come back in the third quarter without needing to go get that ball down field with deep shots. That first fumble was a bad play call no excuses. Trying to throw OUT OF AN EMPTY SET in the red zone when you have run game momentum and still plenty of yardage to spread the field (not on the goal line) adds so much unnecessary risk. I know they liked the Amon-ra match-up on a linebacker for that play call but just don't. I know he slips and it's a freak accident but why up your percentages for error for no reason. At least put someone back in the backfield so the DL can't just tee off in a pure pass rush. Admittedly the pick 6 is on Goff and he shouldn't have a high throw across the middle when he has wide open check downs, he's trying to be a hero after losing that fumble and giving up points. He just needs to stay true to his game which is being an accurate passer who minimizes risk for his offense by making smart decisions with the ball. You end that game running maybe 25 times verses 40 passes against one of the worst run defenses in the league. You watched the Bills do the same thing to Josh Allen when they decide to run a QB sneak over the left guard 5 times and get stuffed when both Cook and Allen are getting 3-4 yds a carry no problem on straight gap rushes or designed runs. The Lion's reverse was also a questionable call but at that point in the game I guess you can get over it because you're getting desperate for a score but that's all built on the premise of the rest of the game being given away by poor decision making on how to attack that defense earlier. I also think the same thing happened in the 9ers game the year before and we just made bad decisions on how to move the ball which cost them a chance to get to the super bowl. Not sure if those decisions are on Ben or Dan but that was coaching as much as it was execution. The second point being on that same pick 6, Goff got absolutely blown up and you're crazy to think the guy wasn't majorly shook up. Before his last pick you can see him in the telecast get hit a play before and his eyes unfocus. Which in the next play he immediately makes a bad decision on the line he chooses to put that ball on and gives up a pick instead of a score or incomplete pass. I'm not calling him a game manager but their entire offense is centered on him being clean with how he distributes the ball, and when he gets shook like that it's a recipe for disaster. I know he's the franchise QB and it would have killed morale, but they probably have a better game with Teddy in and let him rest more than one drive. He's an elite passer in the right scheme, but you have to protect him and protect the play action and run aspect of the game if you want to be successful. He's not an effective dual threat QB and if you make calls and set your game up in a way that makes your offense one dimensional, you're not going to be successful. Period.
Goff needed a team that tried? Maybe a present coach on one side of the ball at least? That would be nice. A team that tries a little bit maybe? Those things could have helped.
Yeah I know, but that doesn’t excuse his performance, and I love Jared Goff, then again, Josh Allen had a concussion in the Houston game and only completed 30 percent of his passes 🤷♂️
@kaninesenses it kinda does!! It effects your vision, your balance and your decision making All things that effect a players(especially QBs) performance on the field.
I think that the Lions can get back theirs chance to the Superbowl next year season, and the only reason they didn't make it this year was because the two coaches wasn't doing the job right. Like they didn't have other job opportunity waiting. Love the Lions forever!!
Goff certainly deserves some blame in a 4 turnover game. However, a defense that couldn't stop a slinky going down stairs is useless. Shep may be a great coach and the right guy, but I would have brought someone new in on D. Offensively, we're a juggernaut and should try to stay similar to what we had. Of course, a great o-line can carry any team.
The NFL's "Independent Neurologist" deserves the most blame for Goff's performance. He should've never been cleared to return. He CLEARLY had a concussion.
Jared Goff is a top 5 quarterback!! Statistics proves so. Only one starting QB out of 32 teams can win the SB per season. If Goff isn't capable of winning the SB, well in theory, there are 30 QBs 31 including Goff who aren't capable. Also, I had no idea Goff played defense too. #OnePride
@@DetroitDen313if you're referring to SB wins in which I think you are, Goff is better or at the least equal as far as production in recent REGULAR seasons than those you other mentioned besides Mahomes. Compared to the Jackson and Allen, Goff made it to the SB, Conference Title Games for 2 different franchises and undefeated against Goff. How many current QBs can make a similar claim that would be considered better than Goff?
I bet Dan wanted to keep Morton after 23 but after Ben was doing well, he couldnt. Remember, Dan isnt dumb. He knew AG would come for Engstrand if he didnt make him OC. He would rather lose him all together to get Morton. He knows what we dont!
Why would they put someone in as OC who learned and worked closely with a division rival's new head coach? That seems to be not a good recipe for success. Maybe if he doesn't go to the Bears he would've been given the chance.
Let me start by saying I have been a diehard Lions fan for well over 50 years…i like JG. However, there is a little voice in my head that keeps telling me in todays game environment that JG is NOT our future. I think he has limited upside at this point since the game has moved away now from primarily pocket passers to mobile QBs. JG is not and never has been mobile which makes him rather one-dimensional. Without a strong OL to protect him he is not reliable under pressure. We have seen this over and over. Its time to draft and develop a new qb and plan for the future all while utilizing our many other weapons that have frankly not been used to their potential. As good as we are right now we need to evolve. Our current winning formula will soon become commonplace as other teams figure us out.
Bottom line, Jared Goff competes for SBs. All the time. And Lions fans, having never won want to get rid of him for a 2nd or 3rd round rookie. Thats the intelligence that we're working with here.
The Commander's game exposed the Lions damaged defense. Defense win playoff games. Coach Morton is a pass first coach. He was fired after one year as OC for not running the ball and getting in arguments with coachs and players. I see a drop off in offensive production in 2025.
Tom Brady won how Super Bowls without being a running QB, Jared Goff had a great year, look at the stats. Did he have a bad game, maybe, and maybe it as some bad play calling that contributed to it.
I think it’ll be great. Old school ground and pound. We will be the only team that does it. Nobody will know how to defend it. I’m kind of glad Ben Johnson is Gone. He was WAY too fancy his gadget plays costed us games.

If we would have kept RUNNING THE DAMN 🏈 we would have still beat Washington. Saying that…I think Goff’s biggest downside is his IMMOBILITY. He’s like an 80 year old man when it comes to moving around.🤷♂️ In this era of the NFL ..QB’s MUST be MOBILE.
The fact that people use a single game to compare QBs overall is laughable. This is why i cant listen to Detroit sports. Matter of fact, why doesnt every team that loses in the NFC or AFC Championship just trade their QB and get Maholmes? Maybe we can all have Maholmes and he just stays on the field all game long, playing for both sides. Like yall
