I believe we are all familiar with this title.
It is rather short and the only thing that makes it difficult is the damned slow response of the controls.
Otherwise, I don't think it is all that bad. -

Edward Lee Jea that always made me naught when people are crying nowadays about "hard" games. Back in the day on NES there was no internet and nobody was crying like a bitch. BTW at the end that last small spawn tiny dragon killed me couple of good times after beating green dragon, that was funny :D
Dark Souls is not a hard game nor is Dragons lair, the difference s that DS is fun cause you learn the monster's weak points and create strategies while Dragons lair is just a badly programmed memorize-each-pixel-of-the-level crap.

Horrible design? Don't forget that this is 1990 year. Character moves slowly and sluggish because that's the design which require pre planning every move and remember the level. I, as well as many people beaded game back in the days and still enjoying memories today (music and so on) so don't tell me that this is horrible design because what is - it's only your opinion.

I wish there would be more so well-animated games in pixel graphics.
There's something so satisfying seeing pixels moving so fluidly... no, not in bouncy style like "Scott Pilgrim vs the World", it is good as well, but i'm talking about other animation styles (Not art styles, animation styles, as in the way they move) Don Bluth Style, Disney Style, 80's anime style, 90's anime style, Clay style...
"Dragon's Lair for the NES is my favorite game" says no one ever.
Pretty impressive graphics and animation for NES.
That's the only thing this game had to offer.

This game passed me off so much as a kid, it's one of the reasons I swear a lot to this day. He has a freaking sword, why is he lightly tossing a bunch of knives?!?
It took.. a good amount of patience and sheer determination but I am always more than happy to deliver for anyone out there that is interested in seeing the game completed. :)

Dennis Hoppe Why would yo call it shity? Cause it was difficult? Music was good. Dragons Lair theme was brilliant, graphic for NES was good as well. Difficult? Yes, but how satisfying was it to beat it :D

Logan Hickling it is possible with save states, it's a fucking TAR. It's a tool assisted run, meaning that he used an emulator with save states to complete it. The game is impossible.

I took the time to beat this game for some reason. It left me feeling sad.

Dud back in the days I've done it myself on NES. I dont remember was I dying or not but definitely without continuation. Even if this gameplay is tool assisted, its definitely possible. One of my favorite games on NES (Pegasus in my country)

I think the creators of the game knew the NES version looked like crap compered to the original "quick time event" version, so they left the title at the top of the screen to whole time to remind you ... "Oh, yeah, I forgot this is supposed to be Dragon's Lair".
in the AVGN episode he played a version that really sucked. this one here looks like a version with enhancements.
He played the US port, this version seems to be taken from the European version

@@MaxOakland The Japanese and European versions of the game were changed so the player moves a little faster and other little changes.
4 years late, buuuut... This is the US version, the same one AVGN played. Easiest way to tell is in the second stage, the boss is a giant snake in the PAL version, rather than a bunch of small ones.
Dragon's Lair! venture in a castle filled with the most fiendishly enemies such as closed door, thrown pebbles, and annoying itty bitty bats, explore as you walk relatively calmed to save you princess Daphne...eventually!

It's not very cryptic, but it's way different than others, on any normal sidescroller, you just throw daggers at the dragon or ignore it and get past.
Here you make the dragon come out, move to the left, turn around, throw daggers, dodge fireballs by crouching and kill him.
Anyone who played any generic NES sidescroller would expect it to play like the first, and anyone who played FMV Dragon's Lair would expect it to be exactly like that but with more interactivity. Both of these players wouldn't have gotten past the first screen easily.
I'll admit that the AVGN played the worst, slow as molasses version, though.

I’m surprised that the energy bar even exists in this game, given that virtually everything seems to kill you with one hit. Even walking into that portcullis on the first screen would kill you the moment you touched it...!

No, this is the equivalent to leaving your kid outside overnight, not allowing them to drink or eat. Grounding is tame compared to this.

Biggest player sprite I've ever seen in an NES game. Mega Man bosses are actually background graphics so those don't count.

Everything doesn't kill you in one hit. If you noticed, he took hits while in mid-air sometimes that only affected his health bar slightly.
I wonder why they made the controls so slow? There's no way it wasn't a deliberate choice, but why?

Excellent graphics and animation. The music and sound effects aren’t horrible, either, but the controls, level design and gameplay are all abysmal.

The game has really good presentation, sound and graphics, but all that becomes pointless in a GAME where game play and controls are priority number one and get shafted to assery.

Some sort of timer. Your health slowly goes down over time but you never notice since you die so often or I think your health goes down whenever you use your weapon.

Dragon's Lair: Dirk's Revenge
After slaying Singe the Dragon, Dirk the Daring has had enough of Princess Daphne so he went back home to his children and slept alone in his bed. To make matters worse, the evil Wizard King recruited a assassin to murder Princess Daphne, thus starting a new journey for Dirk the Daring (while mourning the loss of his beloved princess).

+Isaac Adam There was a GameCube Dragon's Lair too. It was a 3D Platformer Adventure game. It actually looked decent. Not sure how hard it was, but considering it's god damn Dragon's Lair, it had to be tough as well.
