One problem I just recently had when I attempted to install the last driver update on my GTX 780 ti was that Windows 7 refused to allow it because it was an "unsigned driver" by "Microshaft." I had to turn off signed driver protection when I restarted my PC by hitting the F8 key if I remember and choosing that option. I guess that nVidia isn't bothering to get Microshaft's approval for their unsupported cards' drivers anymore. Also, I like that case! I don't worry too much about the presence of a DVD drive anymore.....not because I don't use them anymore because I DO have a LOT of game DVDs, but because I have a few portable USB DVD drives to just plug in. 👍👍
Not really, you can always go with a W7 installation, or use Linux, for emulation, and many other PC games, all this old hardware is still more than capable, it's not "obsolete" or "useless" just because you can't run the latest shittiest OS in the market. I have several machines, even older than the one shown in this video still perfectly functional, and gaming capable, of course, don't try to run Cyberpunk on it, but for other stuff is still great, Warframe runs easily on a Athlon 860k with 16gb of ram and a GTX 960, just as an example, and even older: xeon X5460 modded to be used on socket 775 mobo's, with 8GB of ram, and the very same GTX 960, still capable in many games. It's mostly the latest AAA games that have no optimization or require a really modern feature like Alan Wake remakes that don't run on these machines, and the highest con against them is shitty windows 10/11 experience on them cuz those OS's just LOVE to hog resources for no reason, but as i mentioned, just use a light weight linux distro or W7 and call it a day. I have a couple of videos uploaded showing performance of one of these machines on Warframe and Genshin Impact.
I'm not worried because I can happily use Win 10 for years to come. I actually STILL use Win 7 in my main PC and except for a few games that require Win 10 to run, I have NEVER had a problem. I DO have a Win 10 machine for those need be. I actually once used Vista for years and never had a problem with that either. I would still like to get into Linux anyway as I really HATE "Microshaft's" constant spying and prying these days. Be well out there! 👍👍

You're talking to a brick wall. If he says it's a scam it's a scam.....he either filmed this right after posting the first video or he just won't give up on the scam opinion even if everybody told him it wasn't a scam lol
@@thewickedtim Bro...just quit it with the scam already. Entry level gaming does NOT mean Fortnite! He's selling this 3rd gen i5 as "entry level gaming" aswell but for 100$ minimum and it can't run the games i mentioned either. Should i buy it off him and then text him about not being able to play them on the cheap-ass computer i just bought?
@Mirra2003-f9s the difference here being he clearly shows the computer playing specific games and the type of performance the customer can expect from those specific games. The guy he bought the $40 "gaming" PC from did not. This is what he should have done before calling the guy a scammer - ask him if it can play Fortnite and see what his answer would be. It's not the sellers fault if the buyer is dumb. Throw in a xeon with hyperthreading. It's gonna perfom better than just a plain old 3rd gen i5. Use a stripped down version of windows like ghost specter and finally use inspectre to disable meltdown and specter mitigations. Would definitely squeeze out a bit more performance.
I feel like we are at the end of these 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen processors, and that this time next year will be the end. 👍👍
This would run Roblox, Basic Minecraft, some League of Legends and stuff like that
Easy buddy, you'll get called a scammer by the "pro" here... LOL
If MS actually closes the upgrading of older hardware with Win 11 25H2, then that hardware has a very short shelf life.
@@arthurmann578 If you wanna try Linux, i can recommend EndevourOS, quite a good Arch based distro.
On the other hand i would tell you to avoid Ubuntu and Manjaro, they have become the windows of linux.
I'd like to see how far can that setup can be pushed, like upgrading to either an I7 3770K with overclocking, maxing out RAM capacity and speeds, use an SSD and fastest GPU without a bottleneck, etc... 😅
it happened to me one time.. i have a ddr2 dell optiplex sff pc. one day i can't seem to start it. i opened it up. Lo and behold.. it smelled mouse pee.. dude shorted my rams.. so at that very moment when im building pc i make sure that there are no entrance for the little rascals.
You forgot the "potato pc" gaming set:GTA V, Roblox, Minecraft.
Not a backplate but an I/O shield. 🙂
Have my P8 Z77 deluxe with i7-3770k since new in 2013. Running strong, using MSOffice, Teams, TH-cam, Steam gaming. Asus GTX 1070 and 32GB of Corsair Vengeance, and of course best upgrade anyone can do for older systems is an SSD for OS and even Storage. Oh and a good PSU is paramount for longevity of any system. Great everyday computer. Good video btw, thanks
i5 750 oc 3.2Ghz+ r9 270x msi hawk 2GB[no oc]=120 fps[chosen limit] medium to high settings in CROSSOUT !!!!!
2 , 3 yrs hehehe still getting plenty of yrs on my old i7 860 , still running strong used to run my 3d machine and cricut machine =3
Again, that was not a scam PC. It's low-end for sure, but not a scam. A scam would be the seller selling it for something ridiculous like $800, but he was selling it for $65, iirc, and you got it for $40.
You're talking to a brick wall. If he says it's a scam it's a scam.....he either filmed this right after posting the first video or he just won't give up on the scam opinion even if everybody told him it wasn't a scam lol
It was a scam.
@@thewickedtim Bro...just quit it with the scam already. Entry level gaming does NOT mean Fortnite! Heck i can go buy a 60$ computer too and then complain i can't run Wukong or Elden Ring which i could consider as "entering the gaming world". Also guess what? He's selling this 3rd gen i5 as "entry level gaming" aswell but for 100$ minimum and it can't run the games i mentioned either. Should i buy it off him and then text him about not being able to play them on the cheap-ass computer i just bought?
@Mirra2003-f9s the difference here being he clearly shows the computer playing specific games and the type of performance the customer can expect from those specific games. The guy he bought the $40 "gaming" PC from did not.
Had he posted the posted the computer for $65 and said "entry-level gaming PC for 15 year old games" I'd be on your side but he was clearly trying to prey on people who know nothing about computer hardware. Which is a scam.
@@thewickedtim sellers don't care what the buyer wants from the rig. As a seller it only matters to list the real specs and put the correct price tag on it. I sold my older rigs too but guess what? I had buyers ASK me if it can run a certain game BEFORE they bought it and all i had to do was say yes or no. This is what he should have done before calling the guy a scammer - ask him if it can play Fortnite and see what his answer would be. It's not the sellers fault if the buyer is dumb. It really doesn't hurt to ask the seller or somebody who knows about this stuff if the computer can run what you want it to run. There are also millions of videos on youtube to see if the said specs can run it or not before you stick your neck out and buy it
Im still gaming on a sandy bridge and 580. Old hardware can still be good
I'm not your target market, but personally I would use a potato like this with Linux. Maybe set it up as a router or a streaming device. Especially if I could get a micro ATX board and case. Old machines are far from useless.
@@PropaneWP not a good idea.
It has a powerful PSU.
@@DuneRunnerEnterprises What do you mean?
@@DuneRunnerEnterprises What in the world are you trying to say?
@@chrismay2298
The PC in question has a cpu ,with about 735 watt.
Even if it's ONLY 500 watt,it's still an overkill for a router.
@@DuneRunnerEnterprises Eh? You say CPU but I guess you mean PSU. I never really talked about that precise PC, which is why I said a different mobo and case would be better. The PSU doesn't matter too much either way, as long as it's cheap and works.
Just Sayin... how about exploring the middle range, Hp G3 , Lenovo mini's. Don't need 10 videos. But a look would be interestingly enough. Thanks.
I like that ASUS case with 5@ 5.25 bays and 2@ 3.5. I would use it to mount some HD enclosures and connect them through an external cable. For test use of course...
Throw in a xeon with hyperthreading. It's gonna perfom better than just a plain old 3rd gen i5. Use a stripped down version of windows like ghost specter and finally use inspectre to disable meltdown and specter mitigations. Would definitely squeeze out a bit more performance.
@@yourbluewaffle
Exactly!!!
I feel like we are at the end of these 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen processors, and that this time next year will be the end.
Only enthusiasts will have the patience to learn Linux, and with no official support from Windows 11, the average person will not scour forums and youtube seeking a workaround.
I am new to PC myself and just did my first Optiplex myself. I really like the experience of doing and want to explore doing what you do. Im not sure about my local market, though.
Great video! I like that you take time to explain your process and are upfront with what you offer and charge.
I do want to ask, though, how do you power the LED strip that you added? And is it possible on an old office PC like an Optiplex, considering how proprietary most of the components are?
Thanks a lot!
most led strips like these use pata cables or argb from your mobo. Miheal LED Light Strip from amazon is what i used for the inside of my pc in my profile pic they use pata cables.
I have a case with that exact same model motherboard in it. I have it paired with a core i7 3770 with 16 gigabytes of ram. It's fun to pull out and play with Once In awhile.
I have an area with 6 pcs set up I call the minecraft lounge. Most are 3rd gen i7.
You DO know, that you can set in the 1155 Xeon in there?
For cheap?
He KNOWs very little. Standard "fake it to make it" guy. This channel will be gone in less than a year.
I'd probably use that for a windows xp or linux pc for older games.
Definitely a viable use for it.
I have found that only 6 core CPU's and above have any value when reselling PC's. Customers want options so I only do Intel 8 series and above because of Windows 11 lucky AMD has that option built in. Windows 11 and Older hardware is called TPM module and I have a bunch from China for this reason, as long at the board has a TPM module plug then all you have to do is pay about 10 US for the module and you can upgrade to 11.
The 750TI still getting the driver updates.
Because of being a "failed in testing 950" 😅
these build is good for flipping
Window 11 killed used pc.
Linux
my current everyday driver is an i5 3rd gen, geforce 1050TI with max 8gb system ram. i need a massive upgrade.
If you have a MB and CPU that can overclock, matching RAM is actually very important! x58 Owner advice!😆
Just now assemling a mini ATX with I7-4790,16 gb of DDR3,256 GB ssd,and 2 x500 gb hdds.
And an GeForce GTX 750 TI.
Oh,and since it "gaming pc" ,it gona had 2 RGB fans.
And try to sell for about 170 usd.
Router, could it be made into a router?? I have an old per AMD FX Gigabyte could it work? I wouldn't be using Windows anymore. Could you do one on this or get back to me?
It could work, but the FX is pretty high TDP. It could definitely work. It may not be the most energy efficient option available, but it could work.
I have a couple of MSI 970A Gaming Pro Carbon boards I have FX 9590's for, but I'm not going to use the 9590's. I'm going to opt for the FX 8300 to reduce power consumption and use them for some alternative use other than standard usage purposes. There are still some uses for them. If you don't mind using a little bit extra electricity, they'll work as a router.
I heard Windows is trying to "fix" the way W11 can install on older hardware and I kinda don't want to take my chances. Decided last week to look for newer hardware that W11 supports ... but it makes a much more expensive build. Hope it will still sell for a profit, we'll find out soon enough.
Do you re-image the PC after testing before you sell it?
Of course there's money to be made when you get stuff for cheap, call the seller a scammer even though he made you a good deal, then flip if for triple. Eventually the people in your area are going to catch on and quit selling you stuff...
I have an old Toshiba Satellite A205 laptop that a neighbor gave (it's from 2007). I am seriously considering dropping a dual core CPU in it. Right now it has Core 2 Duo in it in a PGA 478 socket. Do you think that might make it a little more useful?
Umm, a Core 2 Duo is a dual core CPU. That's what the Duo means.
@@cdnron75 sorry. I misspoke. I meant to say it has a core 2 Duo right now. It is a T2330 1.6 GHz CPU. I actually meant to say I am thinking about putting a 2.18 GHz dual core CPU in it.

Do it.
Just double check the heatsink.
It MUST stand the heat of a stronger cpu.
I just sold a 4th Gen i7 CPU with RX 580 a few days ago for $250. Profit was low. I spent $167 on the build.
Have you ever built a fully water cooled PC?
I'm always buying old stuff. ALWAYS. I never buy anything new.
What are the Intel ones up to now? 14th gen? Pft. Newest I own is 3rd gen, and it does everything I want it to. And I only have plans for a 4th Gen, and a 9th gen (i9) when the time comes. I don't want anything that won't run Win7 and/or prior. Hell, I still have a 386 and a 486. Everything has a use.
It's only idiot gamers that are worried about the latest and greatest. Since I'm not a gamer, I'm more concerned with capabilities in other areas. I like drives - lots of them. As many types as I can get my hands on. I like RAID arrays for data storage. The only difference is I don't buy AMD. Haven't bought any AMD hardware since the old Socket-7 days. And never will.
The tl;dr of it all is this: So long as there are folks out there that refurb and resell old shit, I'll be in line to shop.
You may consider AMD if you're ever considering anything Intel that's 13th, 14th, and it's unfortunately even beginning to look like 15th generation, unless there have been motherboard and chipset issues with 15th gen, so far. I've seen indications, unbelievably so after the 13th and 14th gen issues, of...instability issues...again. Again.
@@brianwesley28 There are no plans to. I won't be alive too much longer to worry about it, as my health is rapidly declining. The i9-9920X is likely to be the last computer I'll ever buy.

You bots in the comments defending the scammer are hilarious, you guys must flip garbage like that. Old AMD CPU's are missing SSE4.1 instructions and won't launch about 90% of games made after 2011. Advertising a "GAMING PC" that can only launch 5 ancient games in 2024 IS A SCAM, not sure what you guys are confused about. Even 1st Gen i7"s still work with new games, I know because I recently sold an i7 860 RX 560 4GB PC for $40 that would get a smooth 60fps(v-sync enabled) in Fortnite Perf.
