@@shellmccoy4956 most likely the song is about God -- not trying to get religious on anybody but being lost "in the wilderness" =we are the Lord's flock and we often lose ourselves in this world; "you are in the music in the man's car next to me"= we can find the Lord in even the smallest things that bring us peace and joy; "the rock to cling to in the storm"= God, our Faith, etc.
Tons of examples in The Holy Bible of people, prophets, and parables about being lost in the wilderness and of course several examples of God being the rock we cling to for salvation. Again, everyone can choose to believe what they want; but I believe this song is secretly (or not so secretly IMO) about God.
Regardless, it is pure bliss and soul-healing energy.

I fell in love with this song the very 1st time I heard it.
I love sade. one of my fondest memories is around 2009-2010, being in the car at 8 years old taking a 45 minute ride from indiana to illinois, being terrified of the thunderstorm outside, the one that seemed to come every single week, and my parents blasting lovers rock drowning out the thunder, and i would just watch the raindrops race down my window. such a deeply embedded memory that was just awakened by listening to this, the only line i remembered before hearing this was "you're the one i swim to in a storm." i wonder if she knows how much her music influences people of many different generations

I was in the wilderness(living in worldly desires and lust). I met this guy and he pulled me out of my sadness that I suppressed in the wilderness. For almost 2 yrs, I was at peace. The surroundings of the wilderness was still within and I listen to everyone else's opinion instead of following my own. Needless to say, I sent this song to him in my deepest sorrows and apology. I need to be rescued once again and I know he's the only I can sing(cry) my heart out to when I can't count on anyone else. Her songs mean so much more to me over the years I've gained.

I remember the 1980s very well, I was in high school in Nairobi. A simple time, there was no internet, no social media, we used to read and enjoy magazines, sometimes a newspapers, sometimes books we used to watch television and video was quite popular, video films, music videos, that was our form of entertainment but that generation mostly listen to music on cassettes and Records, CDs would come a few years later in the late 80s so that generation enjoyed listening to music on cassette cassettes and Records with the stereo systems and big speakers and that was our form of entertainment and relaxation and things were not instant the way they are now where you can connect at the Press of a button that was much slower based like even writing a letter and by the time the letter gets to the person and they reply in the letter comes back is it doesn't have that instantaneousness which we are so used to now that just typing a message and sending it off and the person is even live so it was a it was a different time but a very fun time a simple time in that time in the 80s they were so many singers and musicians but there was one that I liked and I think she came out I'm not sure if it's 1982 or 1983 and that is the singer Sade. I like I like her music her voice and unique style of music which I even listen to even today and it kind of it's like going back in memory lane and reminding me of the days gone by.
I thought I would share this song by her this one I think is from the '90s though her older songs were like Smooth Operator and and others. This one is called Lovers Rock. I especially like the slow jazzy Tempo.
