      @@NickJohnson "East Knoxville" is Black Knoxville, so you basically just racially profiled Black Knoxville as the worst part of Knoxville. Congrats on being a Racist Dick. The "worst" parts of cities largely depend on whether you are a black driving into a white neighborhood - such as a DWB pulled over in Sequoyah Hills or a white college guy caught in Montgomery Village trying to score some drugs for his Frat party. South Knoxville looks nicer than East Knoxville but has a higher rate of Home Invasions each year (source KPD). Townview Terrace is on Summit Hill right next to the Knox Police Department yet has been the scene of many drivebys and open shootouts.
      Knoxville has seen a rise in "Gentrification" as you call it but you misread the project vs. new development building. That is not where the city is forcing out the poorer project dwellers. Gentrification is happening mostly in places like the Fifth Ave Neighborhood and Greasy Hollow. There is no one road that is more dangerous than the others.
      There are bad spots around Knoxville, but to judge it on fifth ave next to KARM because you are prejudice against the visibly homeless is crazy since the majority of homeless in Knoxville don't live on the streets. You might try to do some research before making a crappy video and showing how truly ignorant you are about a place.

    So this video came up in my feed so I had to watch it. I’ve lived in Knoxville for 20 years. I lived in East Knoxville when I moved up here for 13 years. Got a wild hair and moved to west Knoxville. I lasted 6 months. I saved up all my pennies and was determined to buy a house...and I knew I was coming back East. I live a mile from where he was on magnolia. I have never felt unsafe and I am a single white woman. This video is laughable. Certainly no quality research was done. Bad things happen everywhere. Just be a smart, cautious and aware individual. East Knoxvillians love East Knoxville. So maybe I should thank you for calling us the “worst” part of town to scare off people who aren’t willing to embrace a wonderful community that supports local businesses and keeps a small town vibe alive.

    I've driven around this area during the day and during the night. I have a friend who lives in this neighborhood.
    It is true that as it begins to get dark, you'll see some sketchy people coming out. It's not uncommon to see prostitutes, homeless, and those who are looking for drugs roaming the streets. But I've never felt unsafe in the area. I've gone to my friend's apartment (at Linden and Bertrand) late at night and walked through small gatherings of people who are drinking liquor out of brown paper bags. They'll throw up their hand at you, stop you, and want to talk--very friendly people. I'll stand there talking to them--about religion--about politics--about music--about the weather--about whatever. Just a bunch of normal people who didn't grow up with a silver spoon in their mouths.
    I happened to stop one night at the Family Dollar Store near Bertrand St. As I was leaving, an older prostitute came up to me and wanted to "talk". I just told her that I wasn't interested and she said, "That's OK baby. You have a blessed night."
    Here's the thing though... You can drive through the "worst parts of Knoxville" and talk about how dicy and crime-ridden they are. But also keep in mind that you can sail a yacht around Jeffrey Epstein's private island, knowing that several underaged girls were sexually assaulted there--your imagination reeling at the debauchery that went on in the compound. Which is less safe--East Magnolia or the Epstein estate? I guess that depends on who you talk to.
    Knoxville's a fine city with fine people. It's a little haven of liberal, left-leaning folks surrounded by deeply conservative communities. I'll take it any day--the good, the bad, and the ugly.

    • @Oakwoody
      @Oakwoody 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The prostitutes and homeless are the least dangerous folks in the neighborhoods. Most of them are good people just down on their luck. The real problem are meth and opioid addicts who drive down from the neighboring rural counties to break into peoples' homes and cars in Knoxville. There was just news where they found in Campbell County a gigantic cache of stuff stolen from Knoxville.

      100% agree with you. This biggest problems I've seen is all the Shelby and Hamilton county tags in the area, especially around West Town. That mall area has gone crazy since the shut down of The East Town Mall, and the moving out a lot of the homeless to that area. I've seen some crazy stuff at the Walmart on Walbrook. Like any other city there are places where you have to be careful. I will say the scariest ass city I lived in was the Augusta/Aiken area of Georgia an South Carolina.

    There is NO EXCUSE for not keeping yourself and your property clean. I was homeless. I kept my body and clothes clean I washed up every day in public restrooms. I ate from a dumpster behind Whites on S. Roan st in JC. I got a job at Checkers and saved my pay for six months while living along the tracks..I walked 4 miles to work every day I was scheduled - rain, snow, cold, heat. I never missed a day. I got an apartment. I worked hard and saved hard. Ten years later I bought a house trailer in Embreeville, TN. I joined the Volunteer Fire Dept and gave back. I was a REAL Dreamer!

    I am from East Knoxville, born and raised, and these are NOT the worst parts of Knoxville. I love how you only showed East Knoxville where the population is mostly black people, as if crime and ghetto housing can’t be found in other areas where the majority of the population is white. Crime can be found all over Knoxville, it is not solely found in East Knoxville. East Knoxville is considered to be a gem because unlike other areas, we have a lot to offer because we are heavily involved within our community and we take care of one another. Sure, it may look rough but it is definitely not the worst parts of Knoxville. So, whoever told you that this is the worst part of Knoxville mislead you and you shouldn’t mislead others with titles such as this one.

Many people consider my neighborhood a “sketchy place” but again, never experienced crime. People here are good hearted, hardworking, middle class people who might struggle to make ends meet. You are misinformed about the Five Points area. Those new buildings in Five Points are government assisted housing. They are owned by KCDC, Knoxville’s public housing authority, and are replacing what was formerly Walter P Taylor and Lee Williams homes. The new houses and buildings are now occupied by many of the same families that lived in the old buildings. It’s part of a 6 year $80m project.
    Also when you claimed to be in Parkridge you were on the wrong side of Magnolia. You should have been north of Magnolia and west of Cherry St to see where the largest amount of gentrification isn’t taking place in East Knoxville.

    I take some offense to you(and others) continuing to perpetuate the notion that East Knoxville is more dangerous than other areas. After living multiple places all over this country I researched before buying here and found, not only, that(according to the most recent stats) the suburbs of Knoxville were far more dangerous than the city. In addition, many neighborhoods within Knoxville were the same or worse than East. The only difference I see in East Knoxville is there seems to be a higher population of People of Color than the rest of the city. (Which actually comes from a rich and intriguing history, but maybe that's a different video?) Not trying to start anything; I just LOVE this city(and this neighborhood!) and I see it really starting to blossom and would love to see it reach it's potential while shedding some of those outdated stigmas. I know this video is over a year old so maybe it could just be time to reassess how accurate this actually is.

    For readers who want to know about Knoxville: the area in the first part of this video is where a new baseball stadium complex is being planned. A lot of the old factory and warehouse buildings have been demolished to make room for it. The new complex is supposed to include apartments, a grocery store, and restaurants. It will completely revitalize an underused area. Also, over the last 4-5 years, numerous other breweries, eateries, coffee shops, etc. have come to the downtown area. I am amazed that there are enough customers with money to support all of the new businesses. Some of the formerly run-down areas, such as Happy Hollow on Central Avenue, have been transformed into thriving districts.
    Of course, the worst parts of Knoxville and just about every other city is where the old, small houses and government housing projects are. Those are the poorest areas, so naturally they're the highest crime areas.

    That’s so awesome that you came to Knoxville. I live here. Iv been watching your videos for months now, so it’s so cool to see my city on your channel. They are definitely putting downtown through a lot of dramatic changes. They made it look better and made it much safer. The old city is very ‘civil war’ looking. Lots more to do downtown and more to see now.
    Really great footage! Thank you for coming down here! I feel so honored lol.

      @@NickJohnson Cant wait to see the next downtown video. This place IS very chilled and friendly. But you were in the wrong area if you want to see all the college kids. You just happened to be in the area where most people in Knoxville choose to stay away from. I don't even like to go anywhere near that Magnolia Ave. area. The majority of Knoxville and downtown Knoxville is much cleaner and nicer with a lot less crime than the area you were in. The rest of downtown knoxville is swarming with university students, and nicer things to see and do.

    None of these places are dangerous! I live over the ridge east and south of where he rode, and travel these streets often. This guy doesn't get out much. What's wrong with older nicer homes, with one that is rundown occasionally? Older places are far more interesting than ugly generic boring new structures. Not everyone can afford to lay out large sums to fix up houses. I would rather live in an older interesting mixed neighborhood than in a restricted pretentious perfect subdivision in West Knoxpatch.

    You should really visit South Knoxville and Vestal area. Much poorer areas in my opinion. Also, stats lie. You talk about crime rate being so much higher than the national average, but as someone who works in the criminal justice system, I can tell you that it's really a matter of enforcement. We arrest and convict like crazy. You'll go to jail over a old roach in your ashtray quicker here than anywhere. Didn't know your license were suspended? Doesn't matter. You're going to jail if caught driving. Also, stats on poverty can be manipulated. Knoxville and the surrounding areas, like Maryville, are great places to live. Just don't break the law in the least.

    I have to say this ,Not everyone is living in poverty in this community! Most of us have lived here all our lives and are home buyers not living in poverty.I get it we are not as glamorized as west Knoxville but we have 3 schools in our district that are magnet schools and these children are going from high school to college and are becoming some of the very people that may employ you one day. It bothers me how people come to a area that has never lived there and quick to judge.And those “Projects” you claim are the worst aren’t even projects anymore ,It’s a community that houses working middle class families that work everyday and send their kids to school to get a education so they can grow up and not be a product of a environment that classify them as poverty stricken!

    I'll always think of this city, especially the Northeast & East Side, as the areas where Channon Christian and Chris Newsom were abducted and held captive before being brutally and painfully sexually assaulted, tortured, and eventually slain all the way back in early 2007. I'm a woman from Southern California, but I was living in North Texas when I first stumbled upon the horrific story several years ago, completely by chance, and it made a lasting impression on me. 😐

      I live in Lenoir City which is right outside of Knoxville. The trials of each savage was televised. Channon’s daddy was so very pitiful! He would sit there and rock with his hands joined together. Vanessa wrote in a diary what a wild weekend she’d had! That came out in court and if looks could kill from Channon’s dad Vanessa just got the death penalty! She ended up with 35 years which I think was not enough. She’s been up before the parole board but was denied. Only one of them got the death penalty. I don’t think that’s fair bc that’ll take twenty years for appeals.

      Nah, there's still plenty of homeless people about. They usually congregate around The Strip, in the doorway of the library downtown, and the Salvation Army underneath the overpass near downtown. I volunteered once with a friend of my mother's at a church to give clothing to the poor and homeless underneath an overpass. There's section 8 housing too, especially near the police station near downtown. A row of buildings went up in my neighborhood built by the city to house the elderly. Goodbye property value.

      @T-Man_865 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Def still alot of homeless. The shelter is still there and during the day alot of them wander around. I heard it's def better than what it used to be. The neighborhoods in this video are actually nicer than other places in East Knox. They tore down Austin Homes which was a bad area but still had good people in it. But just like anywhere drugs destroy alot. I've lived that life and I've seen it everywhere. Even into the suburbs.

    You are wrong sir I live here and they are just changing the way the projects look. All the same people still live there just had to find temporary accommodations while remodeling was happening. The main reason for this is for UT potential athletes that come to visit and do not know if they want to sign to UT because of how Knoxville looked so they updated the projects so it doesn’t look as bad when you drive through town. South Knoxville is the worst part in my opinion.

The history of East Knoxville alone succeeds any other part of Knoxville let’s look back at history books and see why it looks the way it does today. Gentrification is not controversial but intentional.

    You never explained why these were in your opinion the worst parts of Knoxville until halfway through the video, and even then, you're wrong. Second, per crime statistics, Fort Sanders near the University of Tennessee campus is a lot more crime prone area than the route you took.
