Thanks for watching. I found this mower in the old part of town, and it turns out it was severely neglected and mistreated, but it turns out, to be more resilient than I thought.

4:09 It’s fun to use the hose to spin the wheels.
PRO TIP: Don’t use a pressure washer to spin mower wheels. If oiled properly, they can spin fast enough to separate the tire from the wheel.
    (Ask me how I know.)

    • @Cinder2008

Ok Ok. As a kid, I would spray water on the pedals of my bicycle and watch them spin. I’m guessing most of us have done it once in our youth.
We’ll, I was pressure washing my mower and wondered how fast a ball bearing mower wheel would spin with 1200 psi.
      VERY FAST!!
So fast the centrifugal force expanded the tire to the point it came off the wheel.
After a little quality time with some WD40 and pry bars, I was able to reunite the tire and wheel.
      My curiosity satisfied.

I suggest treating the engine and deck as separate projects.
For the deck you could explore the ways to fix it (welding and what i believe is called a drifter's stitch).
And on the engine, how much would it cost to refurbish the old reliable engine, vs buying a dubious brand new one

Something that has always irritated me is how abusive, careless, and destructive some folks are with their things. It also annoys me how some folks also do not take proper care of them leaving them outside to rot in the weather. I came from. A frugal background and thus I was taught to take care of and value everything I have. This poor mowers fate was avoidable. I had used many brands, makes, and, models in my life and have never seen one this bad. The cracked deck is a new one for me.

I got a free craftsman mower not even 2 years old with self propel and I use it as my daily driver for mowing a few properties and when I went to take it off a trailer the blade was spinning and hit the hing and it leaked oil every where. I had to replace the sump and fly wheel key and all I have to do now is bend the shaft back and get a new blade. It was expensive to get the parts but worth it since I use it all the time.

To start, I'd drain the few drops of oil out of that motor and more than likely flush it with kerosene or diesel, turning it with a drill and the plug removed,, pull the carb and wash it and the intake out and fix the recoil. IF I had a TIG rig I'd weld the crack up in the deck just for practice IF I needed the mower or just on a whim. PROBABLY a whim because my liking for the old Briggs engines in general and this one has well proved itself. After the motor work was done and the blade sharpened and balanced I'd pour it fill 0f Delo and let it run at idle for a while just to see how it'd do. Smoothing the weld wouldn't be a priority but a little paint would. Then just sit back and grin a while. This one reminds me of the two 85 models I have that still run quite well. There's still the remnant of a mower lurking in there. Just depends on how you feel about bringing it out. And some of mine have looked that bad. The Roof sat for over 12 years. Thanks and Blessings!

There, a better comparison for the precision of a gas mower: It's not a race car, it's a mower. That's a little different from Donyboy73's "it's not the space shuttle, it's a (insert outdoor equipment type here)" The reason I say Donyboy73 instead of Taryl is because he was saying it since 2011 or 2012. Of course, without Canadians, Americans couldn't capitalise on a lot of stuff we invented. Basketball, telephone, multiplex movie theatres, the incandescent light bulb (Edison bought it from two Canadians), as a joke, Walt and Roy Disney. I say that because Walt and Roy Disney were born to Elias Disney from Bluevale, Ontario, Canada.

  • @TheOutdoorPowerGuy

what caused the crack was excessive vibration and end user damage/abuse, the mower is a Poulan Pro or Husqvarna Outdoor Products, HOP for short, someone put a "universal" blade on it and it spun on the blade adapter ruining it, an uncentered let alone wrong blade is a disaster waiting to happen, universal blades caused so much damage that part companies (atleast the ones i buy from) quit producing them. the correct 22in Husqvarna blade is a HOP 141114 or 406713 (new p/n) also when a push mower frame is compromised, it's best to transplant the engine and trash the frame.

I would recommend more diagnostic work on the engine first. Clean as much dirt as possible out of the carburator and intake to prevent ingesting more debris. Fill the oil to full, then run the engine for a couple minutes. Do an oil change, and fill with a motor oil and Marvel Mystery mix. Run this for 10 to 15 minutes, then do another oil change. Adjust the carb and see how it's doing. If it sounds good, then it's a keeper. If it has a rod knock, use it for parts. I did this procedure to resurrect a 1960's Briggs mower, and have gotten a couple seasons out of it so far.

mustie1 on youtube has messed with some pretty bad mowers from the sound of it. If you have a welder then the deck might be salvable. Tho the mower as a whole. Looks more like parts. an interesting video idea might be to take apart the engine and see how bad it is. But that engines future id say seems bleak.

@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE My best guess is they barely had enough money to keep things going around the place. They also likely had very little knowledge of engines / how to maintain them properly and well this is what the result.....they used it probably as long as they possibly could before they decided even it was too far gone. What amazed me was that oil......I am beyond shocked if you really think about it just how that didn't lock up or blow up in that condition.

Since the engine is 'iffy' at best, and the deck is all but shot, it may not be worth any more time.
