What a beauty! Well done! One of only several ways of what a pan should look like. I sold my 54 many yrs ago over a divorce and won’t have another pan because of it, it was a similar tale of slowly building my dream bike. I moved to shovels and have built several now from junkers. I miss the pan but it reminds me of how another person can steal your dreams if you let them. Building over time is so rewarding in the end and gives one a sense of accomplishment with every part fitted. Congrats!
I can totally relate to the process you went thru on this build! I like it a lot better than the 'bad chopper' you thought you were going to build! Great job! 👍😎
Pod’s build is just 10 years newer than my father’s build, a 1940 Indian Scout utilizing a Chief crank taking it to 56 cu. in. Pods’ jockey shift is a great period mod. Mike your “New” Tales from the cul de sac format is terrific!!! It is the highlight of my Sunday morning…willymakit 😅
"Built to ride". How proper! I too was a little surprised to see an HD on the Mighty Garage. It's a good one. I thought to myself, those look like bicycle goosenecks! And they are! I noticed the Thrasher posters in his garage. Then I saw the skateboard wheel on the shifter. Genius! Well done, Pod, and well done, Mike! Thanks for the Sunday morning inspiration.
As usual a great 'Tale from the Cul-de-Sac' - mate you know some really nice interesting people who bring nice interesting bikes for our delectation. Keep 'em coming please.
Very nice bike that he is very proud of. It sounds and looks great. Glad you invited him on the show. Thanks for sharing Mike and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!!
Awsome bike and Pod is a great guy. Rode with him a few times. You can see the amount of love he put into the build. The smile on his face as rides it tells it all. Cheers Tim from Bend, Or.
Always enjoy my first look on youtube, Sunday mornings! What a gorgeous bike, nice and clean, simple. The 49 pan has a beautiful sound to go with the look. Nice to see a Harley in the cul-de-sac. Enjoy your morning ride!
That looks & sounds like a 'cool bike', thanks for sharing Pod. I've never been a fan of Harley's (never ridden one) but this sure catches my eye. atvb t .. 🏍
Very tasteful build ! I'm not a "Harley Guy" - But still can appreciate the thought and love that you put into this. Having said all that, I think some form of *front brake* (even an old drum) would be a BIG plus.. from the safety standpoint !
That's a great story and a great bike! How rewarding it is to build something you get to experience. And, I may have found a bike welder that can help me with a project! ;) Also, I love the outtakes!
Wonderful to see a Harley in the cul-de-sac. Really enjoyed his story of how the bike came together. I also love my stock 2001 Sportster 1200S. Cheers 🇬🇧😊🇺🇲
Well, that gave me a new perspective on riding my 1974 Ducati 750 Sport. Don’t get me wrong, but it’s a bear to start and an athletic event to ride. The trouble is that I bought it new at 20 so it has quite strong emotional ties.
Very cool Pan. Only what is needed to run & ride. Just the way I like it & just the way it would have bin back when People were doing it after WW II & up into the 60's. 🤘😎
@@kurtfoulke5130 my bad Kurt. Your tank holds as much as my peanut tank did… I should have said. After only 85 miles or so I started looking for a gas station. ⛽️ With a small tank I quickly learned that my kick start only bike was a lot easier to ride than it was to push. Thanks again for sharing your Panhead Bobber.
Fantastic. Long story but I am looking into this type of bike after being out 30+ years riding. Yours is about the closest in my head. I don't understand the absence of front fender on these bikes. Yes it looks better but isn't this messy on your bike and yourself?
more like peter fonda's 'wild angel' bike than his 'easy rider' one. super nice. never heard the word 'bobber' since well into the 70s. in the 60s, that was definitely a 'chopper'.
Very interesting lathe in the background of the workshop! 🤩 nice Showbike and a lot of Work for it, but i don't want to ride it here in the Black Forrest/ Germany.
See Mike, you take a week off and the MG has technical difficulties- who wired Pod’s mic… Alec Baldwin? A beautiful combination of old school hard tail bobber with modern blue tooth front brake. Thanks for sharing Pod
How many cameras did you use to shoot this? My guess is two and an iPhone. One camera on a tripod square to the bike, another on a lower tripod to the rear quarter of the bike. Then you shot the owner using the iPhone and interspersed the B rolls from the other cameras over his narration? I didn't see a wireless mic, but the audio is excellent. What did you use for that? Great video and congrats on retirement!
Yes, exactly! I have used up to 3-4 cameras in the past but just 2 for this one. My iPhone 15 and a GoPro 12 for the side shots and then B-rolls / pics on top of cuts, etc. Yes, I have the Rode wireless Mics. They are very good. You can see it fall off Pod's pocket in the outtake. Best wishes, Mike
Ratchet shift? Your build is also beatiful!
Looks good, you are an artist. I would want a disk brake up front.
Main thing he said that caught my ear was to let it tell you what it wants. Totally agree
Dude right there...

Super cool! Great work.
sounds amazing like it will crack all the windows in the street with a sonic boom XD

Lovely bike, Triumph bars look just right. By the way thanks for the cap Mike, got it this week

Nice job you should be very proud of yourself!!
Nice bike.
Not a Harley fan except for the vintage stuff. If Harley stuck to this style, I would consider getting one.
I admire Pod's skill set and creative process!. Sweet 49 Pan.

Looks and sounds great. Good job!
You have an excellent eye for design balance!
Very nice 👍🏍🏍👍
Love that style, I had a Shovel built like that
That is an awesome meant Panhead you did really good my friend. Enjoy that motorcycle. I am jealous.

Yeah!!! 🏍🤙🍻
Not the usual suspect but an enjoyable watch. Lovely bike and a great build story.
Great stance and overall look 👍
Great guy, great bike!
Wow great job man! This is a beautiful bike built with vintage parts 👍🏻
Made a nice job of the Harley bob.

Badass Scooter, "PAN HEADS" FOREVER 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I’m not a fan of Harley’s normally but I wouldn’t say no to owning this one, well done, great job a good honest bike.
Very cool Harley!!!😍😍😍

No front brakes! That is scary, very scary. Lovely bike all the same.
Righteous scoot.

Very nice. Well done.

Cool bike! Nice build. Really like that blue paint, and lacquer too! Great to hear these stories, Mike. Cheers!
I really like it, great colour. As one or two others have mentioned, not sure about the brakes 🤪🇬🇧
Lovely stuff 🙌🍻
Sweet... 👌
Great work. You have a peanut tank. Love the bike. Great job Mike … complete with a bonus blooper reel. Watch to the end of kids watch to the end. 😂
It's has narrowed split tanks not a peanut.

Cause it looks cool, fuck messy.
Great presentation from the CDS. Thanks.
Lucky guy!
Nice motorcycle.
Completely bad ass.
It’s beautiful…I’d have to reverse the risers or get straight ones, and put a more suitable wider pair of black handlebars…very well done..

I'm a 57 myself, and really enjoy the nice simple bobber.
Well maybe if you bought second hand you still may have had to rebuild nice bike 😊

Absolutely Beautiful! As much art as a motorcycle.
Right 👍 on man.bitchin build I love it ..

What was the grinding noise in pulling up
That's the clutch plates chattering as they are disengaging when Pod brings the bike to a stop. Just like a Ducati 😉
Pod, I'm just across the Columbia from you. I'd love to meet up and go for a spin. 98 FLSTC here.
