When e-bike brands provide their products for independent review and testing, my opinions and comments are based solely on my evaluation and test rides. I also report the pros and cons and share my ride experience to help you choose the best electric bike.
For locks, I suggest one sturdy ulock(kryptonite locks are pretty good), a cable/chain lock, maybe a rotor lock(depending on how much your bike weighs) and an alarm
Thanks for the solid security advice! I do a heavy duty chain lock and a u-lock for extra security.
I have the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboutit Mini Bike U-Lock,c another U-lock and several cables that I use in combination to secure my bikes.
Excellent and well thought out tips! I hope more people see this video 😊
Thanks so much!
Biggest ebike tip: buy a dirtbike, they have the best preformance and just because you don't need some extra speed doesn't mean you shouldn't get it for all the other benefits. Benefits such as, crazy battery life, good suspension(actually good suspension), being able to keep up with cars are pretty much all roads and never having to worry about big hills.
Thank you for sharing your insight! It's always great to hear different perspectives on what works best for riding.
There not road legal though.
@@blackout270 You're right about that!
@@blackout270 I don't know about where you live but where I live, the cops don't really care about it unless you are doing something stupid like speeding or cutting people off.
@rmotion07 well they do in alot of other places. Either you have a tag on it or get off the road.
This is an Absolute Must Watch Video for anyone even thinking about getting their first bike. I find that most people going into this blind wished they would have made a different purchase as time goes on if only they were more informed on all the things you've covered. Very impressed by your video. Short yet precise and I find your calm demeanor enjoyable and easy to listen to. Very well done!
I truly appreciate your kind words! It means a lot to know that the video resonated with you and can help others make better choices.
I have not made my first purchase yet but have been studying the bikes for a couple of months now. TH-cam videos, testimonies, Consumer Reports, just about everything. As Einstein said, "information is not knowledge" and I'm really not going to know a whole lot until I actually start riding one. Unfortunately, we only have one dealer in this smallish town and they don't carry any of the models that I really want to test ride. Great video!
It can be tough to test ride what you want in small towns. Many e-bike companies sell direct to consumer anyways and there are some great bikes out there. You can make a good decision by reading lots of reviews and comparing the geometry of the bike to your own measurements. If the company doesn't have this info on their website, pass! Also, a good bet is finding a company like Aventon (alnk.to/4Mzz7TJ) who has multiple size frames for the perfect fit.
@@ebikingtoday $1500 is my limit and while Aventon is well received and probably the most common e-bike in use today, I'm thinking of going with Lectric because they are a couple hundred bucks cheaper. I've been studying e-bikes for couple of months now at least. Reviews, TH-cam videos, e-bike forums, Consumer Reports, the whole 9 yards.
@@jarchack Nice work checking it all out! Do what works for you! Lectric is a good option and has some new models too lectricebikes.sjv.io/GmPNym
Do not buy fat tire e-bikes. They do not fit on the bus. If you get it flat you cannot push it because it rolls off the rim. I promise you they will stop making them eventually. If you want more tips let me know.
@@perrylee2824 That was a concern of mine. The buses are free in my city and I occasionally put my mountain bike on one if I have to go really far. There's no way a fat tire bike would fit on a bus bike rack. Unfortunately, fat tires seems to be all the rage right now.
Thanks for this. I chose a huge, fat tyre bike as my first eBike. It was a big mistake! I sold it shortly after I bought it. It was a hub drive with throttle assist and capable of speeds up to 60kM/Hr. I then went to the local Giant store and looked at what they had. Beautifully made bikes but a bit expensive and most were out of my price range but, I was shown momentum models, also built by Giant. They're a lower cost option. I took one for a little test drive and discovered how perfect it was - perfect for me. It felt like quality. It has a Shimano Nexus 7 speed gear - non-derailleur which reminded me of the old Sturmey Archer 3 speed gears from long ago. To cut a long story short, I still have this bike. I've modded it by changing the bars to a swept back type, added a suspension seat post, lined the 27.5 tyres with tyre armour - highly recommended - and some other little mods. It is for me, the perfect eBike and suits my riding style. I also bought an Aventon Level.2 to see how good it is/was. Not in the same league. Not a bad bike just feels a bit cheap. It's a hub drive with Shimano derailleur gears but it's just not the same build quality as the Giant/momentum. In the future, I may be looking at the Giant Anytour which is similar in many ways to the momentum but more up to date. I just wish it came with the Nexus gears or an auto version. Too expensive to install nowadays apparently. Keep up the great work. From Australia with love.
You bet! And thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like you found the perfect bike for you!
Great information, very good video, thanks
You're welcome Terry! I appreciate the feedback!
Nice video, thank you.
Nice of you to say! Glad you liked it!
Great job on the video. Excellent info. Thanks 😁 👍
No problem! Glad it was helpful!
As someone who weighs 110-120lbs, should I expect the advertise range & some?
Trust me, you want full suspension.
Thanks for letting us know! We'd all love to know what makes full suspension important for you :)
@@ebikingtoday Sure. I had a first gen Zooz uu 750. It's a bmx style bike with a fixed seat that was kinda hard. It has no suspension. I'm 56 years old. There would be times when I'd hit a bump in the road and it would jar my neck. I'd literally say 'Ouch!' or cuss when that happened. I gave that bike to my son and bought a Furious Ultimate EMX. It rides like a dream compared to the Zooz I had.
@@sixwhip14 Thanks for sharing that. I totally get it! I've done exactly the same when hitting a hard bump! Since I test bikes, I often ride without any extra suspension... but I prefer to have my awesome suspension seatpost underneath me as often as possible!
Yep. Got the lectic 2 with 3 inch tires. Getting ready to sell it and get a 4-inch fat tire with full suspension
@@stacyjaye6350 It can be hard to figure out what you want until you've ridden awhile (and figured out where you want to ride)!
