Love this video! Great interaction, for a self confessed introvert Paul did a great job in front of the camera. Would be cool to own a bike that has a video restoration attached to it.
Always a pleasure to watch on a cold wet mourning. I always wondered what I look like when out riding. Paul was a friendly riding type. Keep making your videos, thank you Joe H
When I redo a bike I keep notes on what was done and type up a sheet to keep with the bike. When I sell it that goes with the bike to remind the customer. Works pretty good.
The Gary Fisher is my favorite of the bunch. Steel, rigid fork and 26" wheels are excellent for tooling around. Put fenders on that guy and call it a day.
I agree with your customer and think he made the right choice. 👍 For just riding around town with the occasional gravel road or two I would personally pick a 700 C wheeled comfort bike over a slower wheeled mountain bike. The only things that would make this bike better in my opinion would be lever shifters over grip and perhaps some fenders and racks .
Hello Andy.. First off, you're not the dumbest bike shop owner in the world. That would have to be me. I was open all winter and made nothing. Anyway, I like your channel and I love the video that describes all the reason bike mechanics are A-holes. Now don't take this next thing to heart. And maybe this thing I'm about to say might make you smile. Because in my case, you would be less available to some one like me, as you prefer.😄 I realize this will have very little effect on your business but I thought you should know. Not every one who won't text you, can text. It maybe few but not every one out there owns a smart phone. So they may not be trying to breaking your rules or being stupid. In my case I just become "triggered" when I'm told I have to text. I will never own a smart phone. And I find it very unfair that I can drive my legally car on the highway at 65 MPH but I can even park the thing because they took all the parking meters down. Not very fair.😡 I use my flip phone for two reasons. To make calls and to chock the wheels on the surreys I work on so, they won't roll. I now ride one of those Surrey (a 4 wheeled bike), and I don't need to pay to park anymore👍
PS: I'm glad you made the sale.🚴♂🚴♀ He's was the kind'a customer I uses to like. He knew what he wanted, he really wanted to buy and had no dumb questions!!!
The smile on the customers face like this gentleman, has always (31 years) meant more to us, than the profit. In this metro market area ,we wouldn't dream of putting someone on a "test ride" w/out them signing a "hold harmless" agreement . Everyone around here, is familiar with the statement One Call That's All.....Greg Earle was in yesterday & he said he was by you recently, we agreed we need you speaking for all of us. Keep up the good work.
Great video! Major props to Paul for playing such a great role as the 'straight man', especially for a self described introvert. You should bring him back in a future episode. But, hey, don't let the UCI see those world championship stripes, they might come after you. They won't even let Ritchey use those colors any longer.
Great video Andy. Paul is going to be happy with that 7200 which was a great generation of hybrids. You cherried it out beautifully and I think that frame was the one made in the USA. I had one of those bikes and loved it. When done I gave it to my brother as it would never die. Great idea for a video and the willingness to produce it. Keep up the great work.
I really enjoyed this video. Paul seems like a chill guy and very knowledgeable about bikes. Andy, you are a better content creator than a retail business person. Ha ha
Nice video. I think experienced bike riders know what bike is good for what purpose. Paul at least does. That's a really capable bike for riding around neighbourhood and so on.
This channel is great fun, thanks Andy 😄 The way Paul ripped back in on the Trek you could tell he was loving the ride. I have to say I do find it interesting to see all of the old 80’s and 90’s bikes coming through your shop.
Gonna need a rack and bag or basket of some sort for grocery runs... Funny I'm a lot like this Paul guy... same name, similar hairstyle 😂, also have a certain amount of bike IQ from owning a 2014 Domane for a few years. Lived in Beijing 2011-2013 and had a bike to get around. What would be called a Giant Cypress here outside China. Cost about $200 (fairly expensive for bikes in China at that time). Loved it. That front suspension was great. Maybe even had suspension seat post (or maybe that was the next model up?). Had a big basket, big reliable kick stand (the double kind that sits under the bottom bracket and is very stable). Just the bike for practical stuff. Had a good lock too as bike theft is super common there and if your bike is gone, it's gone. At least at that time...
This Toyota Prius is great for mpg and a single bike (maybe 2 with front wheels off). -If you are a cyclist that likes driving to trails = great combo and can always put a rack on top for 2+.
Heehee, loved this vid! This is how things should be. Communication, the right level of customer care, and honesty. And as I'm deaf I deffo (pun) prefer texts! Oh and I have my favourite perfect bike. A 35lb, rigid, all ally fat tire MTB! I drove approx 3.5 hours each way to collect it from across the UK.
Hybrids rule for many of us. I am glad you didn’t move to close on the Fisher. Hybrids and ATBs for $399 is a freak deal especially with all the new and better swaps on the Trek.
there’s the hotdog shop around the corner pretty cool. You can get a Chicago dog and then they open this decent coffee shop in that town too. you can ride on bike trail all the way from Milwaukee to Madison and it will take you right past this town.
I never worked in a bike shop, but I worked in a skate/snowboard shop next to a bike shop, where the employees would come talk shit with me. I love how you would be the guy that bike shop would come and talk soo much shit about. Because you arent selling like they are, and your helping people with their cheap normal bikes, that they didn't buy from you.
100% agree with the calling vs texting thing. Like why do we need to interrupt each other and try to think of every question on the spot when you can take your time and communicate everything
hahaha Security Cat cracked me up. Perhap a Peter Maxish sign pointing towards your alley would assist customers. 15:32~Rent the wallspace and get a high school art class to do a mural. This was a fun vid. (Perhaps let the customer say "What do I owe you" instead of demanding money??) KUDOS to Paul too.!!! Loved the ending.
I don’t have the patience for 21 minutes of this… but I’ll just say I really hope he goes for the Gary Fisher. A rigid steel bike is always the prettiest and also the most functional.
Good video! Love the interaction. And the whole process. Question So being he was 6’ tall. What would be the standard size of bike for anyone 6’ or above. What size was that bike he bought. Just curious. Keep em coming.
Really tough question. You need to watch his bike sizing video. Most of those bikes were probably in the M/L category. Maybe 17-19” category. Listed size is irrelevant if the bike fits you and is comfortable for how you’re using it. I ride many different “size” bikes dependent on the wheel diameter, frame geometry, brand, components installed, and what I’m using it for. I have a little kids circus bike with hi rise monkey bars and super long seat tube that is a riot to ride in certain bike rodeo circumstances.
Great deal. Not many used bike shops in my area. Recently I was in the market for a bike and bought a new Kona Dr. Dew. I actually made a mistake and should have looked for a simpler used bike without all the fancy hydraulic brakes and gearing. I could have saved myself at least $600 and got what would have worked just fine. Bike shops like Gib's are a true asset.
I like the bars on that red bike, but yeah, I have an old Nishiki hybrid as my "bug-out" or "slow bike," But then all my bikes are slow bikes, 'cause I'm old.
paul should join the “hat club for men”…i wish your shop was in my town…i have three shops nearby, and they are all awesome people, but none meet my needs as much as yours would…especially if you do simple frame fab work for customers…i live in a lakeside town just outside of new orleans, where we can bike year round, and have gorgeous rails to trails that connect 3 other towns within 10 miles of each other…also have a state park where bikers from around the country come year round…you’d kill it in my neck of the woods …but, you probably wouldn’t have time to make videos…so you’re probably much better off where you are…personally, i think i’d die if i couldn’t ride every day of the year…love your content!…keep it up brother…
Most of the customer interactions like this are nice, seeing someone trying a new bike. Only occasionally is it nerve wracking and tedious, usually when the customer knows enough to ask a bunch of questions just so they can argue with your answer. Paul was an ideal customer.
I'm a Wisconsin guy, but not local to Lake Mills, and honestly I was planning on being a Paul, but was gonna wait another month or two for it to get a little warmer out.
I love it! That could have been a conversation between a customer and myself. I have the same approach. When a customer doesn't understand shifting I put the bike into a middle gear and tell them to ride as is. Then to shift down when they approach a stop sign. And when they get going again to shift up as they gain speed. Basically use it as a 7 speed. The left shifter is for extreme situations only. Would you have talked as much without the camera on? -Probably not.
Careful, some distributors will cut you off if you are "appointment only" Obviously that is seasonal. I'm in the same boat, close to zero business, random things pop up, and DWI folks need the sub $100 beaters that I have for sale, without regard to seasonal needs.
When someone actually takes the time to talk to you because they want you to have the correct bicycle, not just because they want to sell a bicycle, is terriffic.
Nice! I like it! You didn't try to sell to the guy,the bike he doesn't need,or like they do it in some shops, here in Croatia, the wrong size bike/frame! Just to get rid of the inventory...😌 Great sell! Greetings from Croatia from Kris 😎
You are my idea of a great bike shop owner, I know because I had a bike shop in Northern California. I love your channel and your philosophy. Here’s a selling tip though, NEVER gesture with your foot, it appears that you are kicking the bike and don’t like it or respect it, even if your words say otherwise 😁
Thanks to Paul for agreeing to be on video! This was great
Paul crushed it for an introvert. Good episode Andy
Congratulations Paul! This was definitely a feel-good video and what cycling is all about at its core. Have fun and go for a ride....
This is so wholesome! Like a bike sale from in a children's book! Made my day, especially in these dark times we live in.
For sure. Gave Mr Rogers Neighbirhood vibes.
"Put on some hair", that's a classic one there Paul 😂
I gotta do the same thing. I feel that.
throw a toupee on and go enjoy life😆
Don’t know why watching a customer try out bikes and settle on one he liked was so enjoyable to watch, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t!
When Paul came back from the bike ride you can see his personality start to open up. Getting the body moving does wonders!
Thank you, Paul for being part of the video!
Paul gets it. His description of how he wants to ride is spot on
Very nice of Paul to be in a video for ya! Great job and kudos on the sale.
This video resonates 100% with my bike needs. Enjoyed seeing and hearing all of the requirements stated and met! Great job!
Love this video! Great interaction, for a self confessed introvert Paul did a great job in front of the camera. Would be cool to own a bike that has a video restoration attached to it.
I like that you put it on the stand and checked it quick and little tweak... good for customer confidence if me 👍
A rack and a box (milk crate) really makes a commuter/city bike perfect. I'm surprised you don't sell many of these.
Dude scored a sweet ride.
I'm totally with you on the phone calls, absolutely hate them.
It's nice to see someone selling bikes who isn't condescending to their customers.
Lesson Learned: Don't buy a bike online. Go to a shop and test ride instead.
Awesome video! That was fun to watch. Keep up the great work!
Now I know why I couldn't find the shop on Streetview.
I love this video. Seeing him find the perfect bike was great.
The Gary Fisher is my favorite of the bunch. Steel, rigid fork and 26" wheels are excellent for tooling around. Put fenders on that guy and call it a day.

Loved this video. Paul was a good bloke. Well done to both of you, left me feeling happy for some reason :)
"the wind's getting a little chilly so i'll put on some hair" 😂

I don't care how much money you spend as long as you get on the right bike. That's true! 👍
btw the Simpsons thing is great 😂
Nice video. I think experienced bike riders know what bike is good for what purpose. Paul at least does. That's a really capable bike for riding around neighbourhood and so on.

I picked that Gary fisher when you went through the bikes. I like a rigid bike. Nice bomber. Fun video.
Gonna need a rack and bag or basket of some sort for grocery runs... You could have upsold him on a rear rack or front basket. He said several times he’d be using it for errands. 💰
Awesome video! Congrats to Andy for making a sale in February, and congrats to Paul on his new bike! That's the one I would have picked!
Awsome video. Thanks for sharing
I would buy a bike from you, if I was closer. Excellent customer service
This Toyota Prius is great for mpg and a single bike (maybe 2 with front wheels off). -If you are a cyclist that likes driving to trails = great combo and can always put a rack on top for 2+.
Thank you 😊 Feel good video of the day
I like the slight awkwardness from both of you. So relatable.
Great video! It amazes me when a bike sale comes outta the blue like that! Paul is gonna ride that more than his go fast road bike
Paul was great. Hope he goes on to be "the customer" on other TH-cam channels as well!
Hybrids rule for many of us. I am glad you didn’t move to close on the Fisher. Hybrids and ATBs for $399 is a freak deal especially with all the new and better swaps on the Trek.
When a reasonable salesman meets a reasonable customer...
I've driven way further for a used bike. As long as it's worth the time and cheaper than new it's always the right decision, imo.
Great, indeed! what a fun episode.
That Gary F. is a sweet little bike.
After he explained what he had replaced, my thoughts were that the guy was getting the equivalent of a brand new bike.
What a great customer . Fun video .

Wow, he switched to the Trek. I was sure he was gonna get the Gary Fisher. It can happen. Happy trails, Paul!
Great video; great customer! 👏👏👏
"Float around" YEAH BABY! Let the good times roll. Pun fully intended
Paul rocks! Everyone needs a bug out bike, love it 👍
Bought in Wisconsin, customer came from Illinois, Washington state plates on a car purchased in Chantilly VA. Truly US-wide appeal.
A customer who comes in and knows what he wants, is the BEST FUCKING CUSTOMER YOU CAN ASK FOR.
Awesome vid, loved it. Congrats Paul from another cyclist Paul in Auckland NZ who also needs to put on some hair in winter 😂
hahaha Security Cat cracked me up. Perhap a Peter Maxish sign pointing towards your alley would assist customers. 15:32~Rent the wallspace and get a high school art class to do a mural. Congrats, @Paul ! 😊
great bike, great video! Thanks, Andy!
i believe you've got to ride them to know and Paul knew with just one ride. cool video.
nice to see that it doesn't take a 10k bike to make someone's day
i dont know why, but video made me smile alot.. Good job made my day
Great Video Andy. Way to go Paul!!
Great video. Fun watch.

That was awesome! It's good enough for who it's for. My bikes are all basic too and I love them, I do not race.
All warm and fuzzy😊

Always have to be careful not to sell past the close 😉

new bike day for Paul, congrats!
Well worth the drive if you ask me!
Love the scroll at closing time😂.
Shut up and take his money!
This sure made me smile.

I wish there a shop like yours here on long island, all I ever see is new retail shops...pity. Paul got himself a nice bike!
When someone actually takes the time to talk to you because they want you to have the correct bicycle, not just because they want to sell a bicycle, is terriffic.
I’m glad the transaction went well 😊
Dog face in the door at :57 for the win!
I knew he was gonna go for the Trek!
Good Video - I like your business style. In my opinion business people with just a touch of the curmudgeon are more honest than the shmoozers.
The chyron was hilarious 😂
Miss my 7200, bike thieves! So I got two Treks a Canondale a Dawes and… to mend my broken heart
Nice! I like it!
You didn't try to sell to the guy,the bike he doesn't need,or like they do it in some shops, here in Croatia, the wrong size bike/frame! Just to get rid of the inventory...😌
Great sell! Greetings from Croatia from Kris 😎
The G.F. is the bike I would have picked, Red and it looked right!
You are my idea of a great bike shop owner, I know because I had a bike shop in Northern California. I love your channel and your philosophy. Good curmudgeon bike rant. Way to go Andy. Keep it up, you crack me up.
That trek was pretty kick*ss, I bet Paul is gonna have a blast on it.
