- Beirut arrived at the NPR Music offices dusty and exhausted following a weekend at Bonnaroo in Tennessee. But after some much-needed showers, the band brought infectious joy to its short set behind the Tiny Desk.
Set List:
"East Harlem"
"Sante Fe"
"Serbian Cocek"

2024! 13 years later. Back at it. Still one of my favourite Tiny Desk concerts! Anyone else?
Absolutely.
✋️
When I had a crush on someone in my class, I used to listen to this every single day while getting dressed for school.
Nerd
This is very embarrassing. Not endearing or cute, the way you think it is. You should delete this comment.
How romantic!
Love it.

Beirut are the type of band you listen to while doing a roadtrip in Europe, perfect combination of sounds and vibes
That perfectly sums up my last 2 weeks in Europe. Beirut was my soundtrack
Tiny Desk - high time to invite Beirut again :)
I would love to see them do a tiny desk with RipTide, Elephant Gun, Postcards from Italy and Gallipoli
Or just a rehash of their Soirée de Poche!
@@swilson4506 , I'll take off "Elephant Gun" and "Postcards from Italy" and put "Rhineland" and "Transatlantic"
Just seeing this in 2020. Probably the oldest tiny desk I’ve seen on TH-cam, but it’s definitely one of my favorite
Yes!!!
You're not alone! I've watched this aat least 115 times! Greetings from Brazil!
Me too! From Argentina in 2020, I just love it :)
Greetings! Saludos!
yep still here. This set will always remind me of a bittersweet summer in 2011
I'm here March 9, 2020. This one is definitely a gem.
Since I couldn't find em elsewhere, here's who is performing:
Zach Condon - Lead Vocals/Trumpet
Nick Petree - Percussion
Ben Lanz - Keys/Trombone
Perrin Cloutier - Accordion
Kelly Pratt - French Horn/Trumpet
Paul Collins - Bass
Thx!
I can't get over how sincere he looks when he sings.
I love him!
he loves what he does.. how beautiful
The way he makes his voice vibrate is Beirutiful
I am proud of you
i see what you did here
What a punderful comment!
He’s a master of vibrato indeed
I AM CRYIN
It’s now 2022…and I watch this video often. I love Beirut! Look at all of these beautiful high school band nerds (and I say that in the sweetest of ways as I too am a nerd) making some of the dearest heartfelt music your cochlear bones could digest. Watching Zach sing is like being in the presence of an angel.
So true, my bro Paul was the biggest and most talented. Instead of the bass, you should see him on the tambourine
2024
Definitely time to get these guys back now that the sound engineers have immeasurably upped their game!
a few more tunes wouldnt hurt
He swings his feet during the last song and it's the most adorable thing ever.

+PatFreakinRick Virtual flirtation is never impressive.
Been watching these videos all night. I found Beirut my freshman year of highschool. I stumbled upon someone's re-post, David Dean Burkhart's channel, and I had been in love ever since. Playing trumpet from middle school to highschool I have always been attracted to an orchestral type sound, especially music by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. I have found this band always makes me feel like there is more. More to this world than what my phone shows me. A call back to older times where you had to get out there to FIND the music! Forever in my heart and ears, thank you Beirut!
I’m from Brazil and really impressed by this beirut’s performance. I love their song, but live looks even better. Elephant Gun is their most famous song in Brazil. I missed it. Tiny Desk, Show!!!!
Still kicking. Turned 73 last month. Good grief!! Oh, another group I discovered: "Mates of State".
"I'm losing track of how many times I've seen a Tiny Desk and said, "This band/video is my new favorite thing." I read that comment on a different thread today. Honestly, I can't think of one Tiny Desk that I haven't enjoyed. It's such good way to discover new music. I'm a fan. Thanks, Bob and everyone else.
I so agree. Tiny Desk has a way of picking great artists and showcasing them in an extra-special way. My goal is to eventually comment on every Tiny Desk live video.
Watching this instead of studying for an exam. Can't watch while studying. This deserves 100% attention.
Tiny Desk, invite Beirut back!
Same here, dude! 😂
Dude SAME
still same :(
literally what i am doing rn in the college library
Same here
I'm actually really impressed with their sound quality in the horns. Being able to play in great harmony softly to not overload the tiny room can be difficult. Especially when it comes to the trumpets higher notes and not having to bust your balls getting up there with a good bell of a sound.
I know the dude on trumpet/french horn that isn't Zach is absolutely AMAZING. I've seen them live three times and he absolutely kills it.
Taylor Craig do you know what's his name? :)
Lucía Cobain Kelly Pratt, dude slays
They all met in a conservatory, so not shocking they're all extremely well trained classical musicians.
The musicianship is really quite impressive. They had very thoughtful instrumentation in that performance.
I've waited almost 10 years to consume this. Absolutely spectacular. The magic that captured me in 2006 is there in 2011 and again in 2022. Thank you Beirut in whatever incarnation you are in. Your music heals me with each passing year and I am grateful for you.
I love Beirut! My friend Joey passed away three years ago. Our favorite passed time was showing each other new bands to listened to. I just rediscovered this gem thanks to my suggestions and it makes me think of him so much.
Same my friend Jessie put me on this video back when he was alive. And I thought of him today so I came back to watch this video.
Watching this on 8/5/2020 after explosion in Beirut. So incredibly sad for those who lost their lives or were injured. However, I love this band tremendously, so it was nice that my searching for the city name returned one happy result.
his voice sounds like it's been channeled from some past life
This is actually a very good description and I agree with it.
this is very accurate thank you for saying it
Drummers vibes are something we could all aspire to
This may very well be the pinnacle of tiny desk, and music for what that's worth
I wish Beirut made an unplugged disc. I personally like it more than their studio version of these songs. They sound so classy, with these pear-shaped tones and the brass holding hands with Condon's outstanding voice yet never masking it. Gorgeous!
The timbre of the french horn, flugelhorn, and trombone are absolute perfection. WHo needs trumpet ;) Sante Fe may be one of my favorites. Just drove through there 2 weeks ago on a cross country trip. Listening to Beirut while traversing the dessert and mountains was nothing less of magical.
it's a rotary trumpet, not a flugel! its tone is somewhere in the direction of flugel tone though
Was listening to Beirut in Spotify and thought to myself I wonder if they have a tiny desk performance. Yes!
How have I never heard of these guys. They are incredible and just shot to the top of my favorite bands list.
I don't normally leave comments on TH-cam. .. but this.... This is something special. These guys got it.
I'm commenting to make you deliberately uncomfortable, and hopefully you'll respond to this, hopefully creating a cycle of discomfort for you.
Their unique sound, especially his voice, and the clever lyrics, feel really pleasing or comforting to me. It's a certain mood - I guess emotional, sentimental, full but pretty content with teensy bit of the Ben Folds Five sound but guess that's the piano. I like that fun horn and accordion sound.
This part gives me shivers: "Sound is the color I know, oh. Sound is what keeps me before your eyes. And sound of your breath in the cold. And oh, the sound will bring me home again." 👂🏿🎶🎵💬
00:01 - East Harlem |
03:40 - Santa Fe |
08:33 - Serbian Cocek
I misread that as Serbian Cock and briefly got all sweaty.
Wish they did Nantes and Postcards from Italy
I discovered Beirut through this video when it was first posted! Zach is so incredibly talented and Hadsel recently blew me away. Love coming back to them every so often.
perfect ambiance - i feel less alone when i listen to beirut. they just have a feel good quality! anyone else feel the same vibes?
This tiny desk is quickly becoming my favorite tiny desk.
Thank God this band exists!
Literally
He has a flawless voice and he makes it look so effortless. Really masks how rare it is for a male singer to have a voice like this.
And then you throw in the horns and the terrific songwriting? Amazing.
Flawless voice? Meh. I love Beirut but his voice is pretty limited technically speaking. Soft and quirky.
Are you a guy ???most guys in my choir sound like that. Baritones that is
@@whoever_81 nobody has a flawless voice either thats whats beautiful in modern music its about the music not the voice like choirs where they perfect there voices. Modern mainstream music is about the cracks and flaws in the voice
ish the fish Agreed!
Great sing along with.
Just found out about this band yesterday, falling in love with their music .
Saturday morning with coffee+waffles+Beirut's soft melodies...can't get any better
So warm and perfect sound.
Word.
Warm is such a great word for it!
Here in 2022! This just makes me happy!
Bring them back,please!
No wonder they sound so great- they've got Art Garfunkel on the drums
I laughed harder than I should have? But I see it now.... I'm still giggling
That's actually a bad Bill Bruford clone.
ya decía yo donde lo había visto antes
I am laughing so damn hard at this shit 😂 ugh good on you Jonathan
LOL
My wife to be, walked down the isle toward me at our wedding while “Venice” played. Tears in my eyes
I love Beirut they open another door of music that is out of this world
It's not out of this world it's eastern european music
GNIMAERDYAD why easter european?
Spot on, Alex.
@@sixsurdix3711 its not eastern European music lol
That's the best tiny concert performance, Beirut guys are just timeless :)
I do agree that his voice is unparalleled. There are many great singers with lovely voices but none I like quite as much as his. When you love a band I would not consider it a silly opinion. Every band has value to someone. They happen to be my favorite too.
this is my first and fave tiny desk concert
I don't know that I've ever heard anything by Beirut but dang am I glad I stumbled across this. Y'all had my 3 & 1/2 year old dancing like a madman! Truly nothing short of absolutely enthralling. I'm a fan.
my dad would love beirut, and we would listen to em every sunday morning
coming back here in 2020, such grace :)
Such a nice combo of instruments. No harsh sounds. Beautiful smoothness and roundness sounds. Respect from Santa Fe, NM
Gezz, its been 11 years already D: Love to come back here, always cheer me up what the concert s2
why does the drummer looks always happy i love him
Beirut is just amazing
Like these guys and their style a lot. Great musicians, solid little concert. Also glad to see they could get Art Garfunkel out of retirement to play the drums. Bravo.
hahahaha! Lol !
The warmth of this one gets me everytime...
Beautiful!!!!
i think its absolutely amazing how he was just a normal dude from new mexico but created music that sounds so out of this country. If more modern day indie artists were influenced by world music their music would be amazing.
Truly creative, original, imaginative, magical and exquisite music. Always makes me feel as though life is worth living when I listen to Beirut. And not much makes me feel like that.
This just made my day. Seeing them live a few years back changed my life.
Smooth and creamy brass, Simple appearance, Unparallelled vocals, Unique instrumentals. My favorite band.
This version of Santa Fe is so damn good. I wish the album version was as messy and organic.
I miss the closing background vocals going doom doom da doom though!
absolutely wonderful. east harlem just speaks to my soul
Sound will bring me home
These guys are amazing
This is just amazing
For people who were wondering, Condon plays a rotary valve flugelhorn.
that's a Bb trumpet, not a flugel. Replying to 5-year old comment, yeah!
Thank you guys for the information very helpful
still amazed
watching this and then their newer music videos, zach does not age!!
newly discovered these a week or so back - love indie music and this is just top of my list right now. Beirut, you have another new fan
Everytime when i listen this music i remember my old love
for some reason when I hear santa fe I hear the chorus of vance joy's play with fire on top of it...
it just feels like it fits for some reason..
having said that, love Beirut's sound
That trombone sounds awesome!
I love this kind of music. 3
These guys have a soulful earthy honesty that truly wins me over. God bless them and this wonderful tiny desk channel. marvellous stuff
I had never seen the singer before and now I'm just all the more impressed, what a voice!
ive been listening to this album nonstop since it came out. i cant wait till they add my city to the tour list. minneapolis mn dont forget us beirut! thank you once again npr music for adding another brilliant video
Gotta love the NPR Tiny Desk Concerts. Gotta love Beirut.
i really really like his voice...so unique and has a nice ring to it
I'm a Beirut lover since 2008. ❤️
his voice is amazing
They certainly dressed for the office vibe. Love it
I want them to play at my wedding so badly. They're a phenomenal group.
Thank God for finding these guys came at the right time
i watch this video every time i am on youtube it is so good!
He attended the high school I'm going to right now, and I have dreams to get where he is right now. This gives me such light, inspiration, and hope (:
Good luck!
However that going @oat milk
omg their drummer kills me!!!! most unique band ever
+Aeon Klepto me too. he makes it look so effortless

+Aeon Klepto for sure, he makes me smile!!
Pam Jarvis he just is too good, very skilled as well
+Aeon Klepto infectious joy !!
Nailed it!
So warm and lovely
Oh my Lord, the trombonist is beautiful. Wow.
Correction: Tromboner*
Correction: Trombonicizer
oh dear. -.-
Correction: Trombonobo
Oi X Please don't.
This is probably my favorite thing in the world.
Still one of my fave tiny desk concert ever! Was once worked at a photo gallery and I always put Beirut on my daily playlist at the gallery for visitors to enjoy.
Beautiful!!!
No dejo de escuchar a estos genios
Simplesmente adoro essa banda!😍
the sound will bring me home again.
I have this irresistible urge to go buy a plaid shirt now. Haha but kudos on getting an accordion to jam like that! Sounds like something from one of the Pink Panther movies. Like "Meglio Stasera."
The most beautiful, romantic voice ever!
Wow.....i love that group!!!!
Gosh, the beauty just never fades
Who could imagine New Mexico could pump out euro-awesomeness!
