Northlawn Flower Farm has a video about establishing a cut flower garden in the landscape (not grown in rows). She also just put out a new video explaining her journey of how she came to incorporate a cut flower garden into the landscape rather than use all her space to grow in rows. It's a very personal story to her. She seems very sweet.
Danielle is a really good resource for many here. She is making a business of it in a smaller space and using just flower beds and not rows.

I had not been able to go outside for weeks due to a fall earlier and yesterday I ventured out to my backyard garden and discovered the Hellebores are blooming! I almost cried! What a wonderful surprise! Growing gardens is the best therapy for body, mind, and soul and I wouldn't have even tried last year without Garden Answer videos! Thank you!

@@Bamboo4U2 I am in Washington State on the Western side. They have always bloomed in December/January for me. I am in a new house (after 20 years ) and wasn't sure these had transplanted well and there they were! Just as happy as they had been in the "old" house!

My friend and I share seeds, which helps this too many seeds issue a lot!
The Mahogany Hibiscus is one of my favorites too! I found harvesting it into hot water and letting it sit for 24 hours helped with the wilt😊💐🌺

Why does hot water work for cut flowers? Does it work for roses as well?

Really good info. Weeding your garden is good therapy, time to have a one on one with God, I love gardening and the smell of the garden dirt. My older sister thinks I'm nuts, but I can't wait tell spring to come. Laura, you aaron and benjamin have a blessed week. Can't wait till baby girl comes.

Keep a hole puncher to punch a hole in the plastic tab. Use 12 gauge 6ft hanger wires (50-pack). This wire is at Home Depot used to hang drop ceilings ($17.78). Can be cut in half for a hundred. Bend the top like a shepard hook then crimp it down after you put the label on it. Thank you so much for all the info!!😁

It's a great way for you to make a profit and would allow for us super fans who watch the show to be able to follow along with seed starting, harvesting and arrangements. Which ultimately gives your videos more views and subscribers. It would also have us name dropping you when people ask where we got our flowers or arrangements. In turn growing garden answers.
Me and my daughters watch your content all the time and all 3 of us are left saying how much we want those exact same items. Then husband is miserable as we drag him around to find everything needed putting me 2-4 weeks behind on starting whatever it is we saw in your videos. I know my family would absolutely love it if you had subscription boxes for the flowers you start from seed in your videos! Especially, to make planters and cut arrangements with. Was very helpful. I'm going from 500 square feet of grow space to 2000 feet! I'm so excited and am planning on planting about 100 Zinnias! And lots lots more. For a former plant 🪴🌱 killer its a big goal but I'm gonna try! Wish me luck!

My pond plants have done well in vase; lotus, and the dried lotus seed pods, purple pickerel, purple water iris , gold water iris, cat tails, water fern, and I clip from my potted ferns.

Peonies which don’t last long, can be harvested when the buds feel like a marshmallow and stored dry in the fridge for some time. Since the flowers can easily be destroyed by weather events this is a great way to extend the enjoyment. I heard this from a pro on a podcast, and plan to try it this spring for our gorgeous ‘Festiva Maxima’ blooms 🤞

Agreed. Peonies don't last more than 4-5 days in my experience. However, they are beautiful and absolutely a must-have in any garden.

False Indigo is a favorite filler of mine all summer. Do you use this? We share a home and nine city lots of gardens. Also volunteer in the city gardens. You have SO inspired us! My daughter and I watch your show every day! If no new contact, we watch one of your older posts. My daughter, Mary, has a spreadsheet to check off. Just another reason I say you two are sisters!
Thank you for inspiring me with all things in the plant world! In the most recent "recap video" you spoke about where you will be placing future walking paths. It reminded me of my college days when new buildings were added....they 'waited' to install sidewalks to see where students created natural paths and later sidewalks were added based on most commonly used paths. Just a thought. However, creating them from the get-go is an exciting way to develop meandering paths which lead the strolling gardener to interesting views is also fun. PS I LOVE the pallet walkway by the chicken coop and all the 'garden rooms' at your parents' house. So many options! Have fun! Can't wait to meet your sweet baby girl! God bless!

Your videos have instilled in me a love of gardening . My Mom was a big gardener. Being from Europe, she grew plants for food but she always said that there was always room for beautiful flowers. She could make a beautiful bouquet from anything in the garden. You have the same skill and that is why I absolutely love your videos. If my Mom was still alive, she would be your biggest fan.
Last year I planted zinnias for my mom to cut and this year I'm doing a dozen more varieties for her. I'm excited for this video to say the least!

Hey my dentist told me she uses rocks to identify her crops. She and her kids paint them all fun and then leave them near the plants! Just an idea for labeling
Hi Laura. Love your gardening videos. I have been watching for a long time now and have seen you say that you need to "up your labeling game". I live in SW Washington and as you know we basically live in the rain. What I use to label my plants is wooden paint stirrers. First I seal the wood with a white paint. Then label with a paint pen......don't use Sharpies ( They have their place but the garden isn't one). The paint pen won't bleed and will surely be almost like the day you made it by the end of the season. I have watched so many of your videos where you label with a sharpie and I'm yelling at my computer "Use a Paint Pen!!!!......It changes everything". I hope you get this. It makes a tremendous difference. Love your videos. Look forward to seeing you use that paint pen. Keep on gardening.

@Allisyn H... flowers don't like being watered from above. If you let the sprinkler water your flowers, that is a big reason why some flowers don't look good. Laura's flowers are mostly watered from below and that is one reason they look so pristine!
To keep the drought tolerant flowers in with you other flowers... use only one or two rows of drip tape instead of the three and seed the flowers slightly more away from the tape. That way you can have all your flowers together, and on the same water system, but the flowers that want less water get less by virtue of simply having less emitters near them.
Yes! Please make a video showing which of the easiest flowers to plant each week or m9nth to have a continuous show of flowers. Either single varieties or multiples of varieties. This would be soooo appreciated! We beginners need your hel, and you have so much knowledge to share! Thank you!

Roses and sunflowers are my favorite flowers. When I buy a house those are gonna be pretty high up on my gardening to do list.

I would use a label that you stake high so you can see it walking down the row. I started a flower garden last year by planting two flowers. They did really well and I learned a lot. I’m adding dahlias this year. This was a great video!!

A good replacement for the Home Depot buckets are cat litter plastic buckets. That way they’re being reused and you’re not having to buy anything extra. Those of you with house cats can use these buckets for tons of things before recycling them!

I have to put tulle gift bags individually on my dahlia buds to protect them (got the tip from a flower farm!), if not they all have holes and damage! But the results are perfect dahlias. Looks terrible in my garden though lol but I don’t care 🤣-Emily
You made some really great points Laura. 🙂 As someone who’s really getting into cut flowers, especially on a bigger scale but don’t have a lot of room (yet 😍) I do agree variety is key. You always want to maximize your space by growing varieties that multi-branch that way you’re getting more blooms vs ones that one give you one stem. 🥰

You could use extra large paint stirring sticks (21in./5 gallon size) as garden markers. You can find them for a great deal on amazon.🙂 -Stacy
Northlawn Flower Farm is also a good source for growing cut flowers for profit. She grows on 1/2 acre and gives great advice for cut flowers.

For your problem with plant name tags: Drill a hole in those little plastic tags, which are reusable. Then make an open loop on a piece of strong stiff wire that's about 18" long. Thread the white plastic tag onto that loop and then insert the wire into the ground. Dry Cleaners coat hangers work (you pull it so the hook part is at the top, bend it down a bit, add the tag and stick the other end in the ground), but you might have something else available. I enjoy your videos. Have a happy, healthy, EASY delivery!
This has nothing to do with this video but I rewatched the May garden tour the other day and heard you talk about round stepping stones. I looked everywhere last summer for a Zen garden I was putting in. They can't be found! I have been checking Facebook Marketplace for them and I finally found them. 25 for $50. They were 3 hours away but my sister lived near where they were. But I found them!

I live next door to my community park. They have huge piles of wood chips from ground up Christmas trees that they give away for free to members of the community. I use the wood chips to mulch the footpath between my garden rows. Worked great last year.

My first ever seed grown cosmos did great from my beginner Winter Sowing last year and bloomed all season, spring to frost. Loved them so much, planting more varieties this year. One of our favorite great thriller fillers is tall verbena (Verbena bonariensis.) Grows easily, tall and airy and looks great everywhere. Self seeds, but easy to remove or relocate. Going to mix in big containers with cosmos this year for a season long impact at a path entrance.

i planted a wildflower mix in the summer of 2020, and while most didn’t grow because i left for vacation right after sowing them, the runoff from the lawn kept some alive. i have bachelors buttons and blanket flowers now and they’re doing great!! some of them are 3 feet tall! nothing else in the mix grew but i plan to plant more flowers in spring because i hate the maintenance and look of the grass.
I would LOVE a Q & A session on citrus once you get that new greenhouse! I’m less than a year into a lemon tree and even though I’ve watched your lemon tree video (like 100 times) feel like I’m missing something!

To address the question about the flowers not looking good, it's also very important to get your flower seeds and bulbs etc. from reliable sources. Because when I first started gardening, I thought that I could just pick up plants, bulbs and seeds from local box stores and they would be great, but I quickly learned that not all plants, bulbs and seeds are created equal. When I started buying from Johnny's, and everything I planted looked so good, that's when told myself that I wouldn't waste time and be frustrated by the cheap seeds from the store anymore! Spend a little bit more in the beginning, but it'll be worth it when you have the beautiful plants you expect to have! There are more companies besides Johnny's that are reliable, but I've always had success with their seeds.

Thank you sooo much for sharing all your information and knowledge. I grew cosmos from seed last year and i was so happy to see the results. I had alot of seeds that have been saved year after year so i know thebees and butterflies are going to be well fed. I usually save about 20-30 monarchs every summer so its nice to have other flowers besides milkweed
