  • Caeleb Dressel sat down with the media after winning the 100 fly, qualifying for his second individual event at the 2024 Olympic Games. Dressel spoke candidly about where he's at in his career, stating he's not sure if he will ever go a best time again. But he sure is trying.

A lot of respect to caeleb! Not only as a swimmer, but the honesty toward life and adversity

I actually cried listening to the answer to the last two questions. I don't think I've ever seen an athlete be this painfully honest in my life. He's way too sensitive and substantial to keep competing after this year. Obviously he had something to prove to himself but he needs to move on for his own happiness, and that is the opposite of a criticism. He has what's important and what he needs. Getting to compete this year was the missing piece of the puzzle he needed to move on with that. I will be rooting for him hard in Paris.

The last two questions and answers…whew! The vulnerability from a being most of us, even top 1% swimmers, see as a super hero. Yet the honesty and maturity only increase my esteem for him. Maybe it’s fatherhood, experience, just life, but this Caeleb Dressel is godsend for Team 🇺🇸 based on leadership alone.

Love how much he respects Michael Phelps!! His humility is everything. Such a good person he is! All the best for the Olympics, Caeleb!! No pressure, just have fun like that kid in the pool when you were 5 🙃🥳🎉😃

I’ve been critical of the past with Caeleb when it comes to some of his answers he gaved to the media years ago. But I get the sense he now gets it in terms of the media coverage he got or still gets, the spotlight, all the things that comes with it that he isn’t a big fan of. He sounds more comfortable in answering questions now. He’s more self-absorbing now with not needing to feel miserable to swim fast. I felt that was key in finding his love for the sport again.
I’m glad to see he’s in a better place mentally and I hope he surprises himself and swims in Olympic or world record pace in the 50 and 100m fly.

I don’t think people understand the swimmer Caleb Dressel is. Time wise he’s broken boundaries in swimming! His turns also ! He’s an innovative swimmer. And his best of his career so happened to fall before the Olympics. He transformed college swimming. Every college swimmer was infatuated with him. He’s a different kind of swimmer than Michael Phelps. But I think they both have made different kinds of impacts on the sport. Oh also his DIVES! The quickness

They’re different guards. David and the young 20-21 year old Americans are all the future. Caeleb IS getting older, but anything can happen, AE won it at 36 in 2016, and Manadou is still going. Swimming for better and for worst really is a sport where if you have a lane you have a chance. Pop is the only hope for the 200m to be broken though.
