As a black woman who wants to visit Korea (and other countries outside of America), I really appreciate Syd specifically recounting her experiences as a black woman in foreign countries, especially all the 'big trends' like the color analysis. It just gives me a bit more courage to get out there and travel. As usual, I love the videos and hope you have an amazing trip!!!!
@Meteor204666 what part of that statement is being a victim?? Black women have a very different lived experience compared to other demographics. Good or bad. Grow up.
Straight up because we have no history and "bad blood" here in Asia with African cultures and races, there's literally nothing to be afraid of. As Syd said, you get stares only because you are a rare sight, not because of any discrimination or condescension. It's definitely hard to shake away the feelings and ideas that you've experienced in America and stop your mind from projecting it towards your experiences in other countries, but here in Asia we literally have no history with African culture to even form any hate or discrimination, so the experiences in Asia comes from a completely different place and perspective.
@@ksng767 there is tons of racism in asia. So many people are told they have to bleach their skin to be attractive, and that is a big problen in korea.
@@ksng767 There is absolutely bad blood between Asians and blacks in Asian countries. Guess you haven't heard of Johnny Somalia and I absolutely despite Asians like you who are constantly trying to appease black people. black people don't like us, they only fetishize us and want access to our culture. Asian people need to learn this fact or else
as a brown woman, seeing syd's colour analysis going well gives me hope, i've been wanting to get one done for a while but i was scared that being a darker skin tone was going to be an issue but i'm super glad it went well!
I love your vlogs syd and especially appreciate the unique perspective that you provide as a black woman traveling to asian countries. it’s really interesting to hear about your experiences doing the things that everyone else does, no one else really has to think twice about anything except not knowing the language, and it can be taken for granted! im so happy you had positive experiences on this trip, hopefully ur feeling better
the 3rd space comment is so real, and how cool to find one while traveling! Its so hard to find 3rd spaces in our everyday lives especially as adults and to discover a place like that while traveling is incredible. So good!
Omg they rly did your hair so well!! As a fellow black woman, I’m also super worried about getting my (4C) hair done at salons since I live in Japan so I just do it myself for now 😭 I’d totally offer to show you some cool places in Tokyo, but I’m literally leaving for America tomorrow for the holidays. I hope you have an amazing time here!!
I was in Korea & Japan at the same time as y’all!! It was my first time traveling solo. I’m not a Black woman so I will never understand the additional considerations yall have to take when traveling, but as a small woman of color who is a target for creepers back in the U.S., traveling solo in Japan and Korea were the best places for me to solo travel for the first time. I’d imagine if you ever decided to do it yourself, both places may be similar for you too!
I’m a brown girl with naturally curly hair (tho I straighten it sometimes) and I want to go to Korea for like the same things you did (colour analysis, facial, hair styling) just because it seems real fun, but I have the same concerns as you did 🥲 because yeah, it’s daunting as a WoC, so it’s super exciting to hear that you had a good experience overall!! Makes me keen to try it :’)
This is small and random, but as someone with gut issues as well, thank you for being open about your struggles with IBS. It sucks so much always sucks worrying about what you eat, ESPECIALLY when traveling.
ohhh my gosh!! your vlogs are so cozy and calming to watch. As s.o who loves to travel too, I love hearing ppl's experience and stories when they travel to a foreign country esp food related :D and it's also quite interesting to hear your commentary about being a black woman travelling... would love to hear more about that on your stream when you come back!!
20:10 yeah i had remembered syddenly that you guys were there as i was keeping up with the news at the time and had messaged some of the kods ik to maybe inform you/check on you guys 😅 happy that you guys were safe!
I love these vlogs 💗 Always appreciate hearing ur experiences travelling as a black woman, the silky buss down is SUCH a win, one of those relieving moments 🫶 Also toast’s fit at 14:20 slays, love to see your influence on his style! 🙂↕️ Idk if it’s something you would ever wanna do, but I would love to see hair content! How you style it on the go, wig reviews etc. It was a breath of fresh air to hear about similar anxieties I’ve faced abt getting my hair done in a foreign country, there are so few black women in this space and it’s cool to hear about your experiences
God. Being a south korean when that happened is just funny and scary until i realized that you guys were also here. 😂 Just came back from the protest as I'm typing this while eating dinner.
Beauty of Joseon is a great brand, so that's a really good pick-up! Glad that you were all safe and still got to enjoy your time in Korea ❤ Can't wait for the Japan and Macao vlogs!
I lived in Korea 2014-2019. They used to stare especially outside of Seoul, but not at all the last time I visited (April 2024) Correction. In a small city called Cheongju the mayor happened to be with a filming crew and he made sure to come and speak to me because I was meeting with my friend and her family in the park. It was very cute but definitely came over to us out of the other families because of me. But I love that about Korea!
I need to know who the waterbomb sex god is…. I can only assume jay park but I need confirmation. Also so glad you guys avoided the confrontation and were asleep
HIHI SYD!!!! Sorry I’m late my power was out because of a heavy snow storm. But we here WE LIVE!! I love the vlogs on this channel so keep it up and keep them coming. You’re doing great 👍🏾 have a wonderful and blessed week and hope your cold goes away so we may continue the the Korean vlogging festivities❤❤
Korea may be ok with it because the US still has military there. I think they also have military in Japan, so maybe it's because technically the war is still happening (no treaty to end hostilities, just a ceasefire)? I dunno. But I have heard there is a strong military presence there. S Other than that, maybe the Americans teaching English there? Business wise, there may be Americans there, but I would think there would be more in China, Japan, Taiwan. But maybe I'm wrong and it's the business culture more so than military that leads to their comfort with Americans.
wait how did they blow dry your hair? Is there a specific way for your type of hair? I'm curious because I feel like idk how to blow dry my own hair properly 😅
Idk if you're still in Korea, but my favorite TH-camr from there is also of color. She lives there and has a family. I'd love for you two to colab. ❤️ You!!
I really wish more creators would stop pushing the narrative that we are post pandemic, or post COVID, all of that is still happening. :( Like getting sick with covid is still really, really awful for people? Its still harming so many people? Its just really disappointing to see.
