BTR is so underrated in the sitcom realm, this show felt unique with how it doesn't use laugh tracks for its humour and because of that BTR always stood out to me as a kid. the music still fucks too.

I never consciously noticed it either until this video pointed it out! I think it might be why I couldn't get into some of the other nick shows airing at the time but absolutely adored this one.
Gustavo’s assistant on the show was not meant to be a main character by the way, she wasn’t even supposed to have lines originally, just was supposed to make Gustavo look more official. They liked her so much they decided to make her a lead, hence why she wasn’t shown on the main title intro in the 1st season.
one thing about this show that always stood out to me is sure there were sets, but they were full sets, not "2D" and every shot is unique, unlike iCarly and Victorious where everything is pretty much always shot from the same angle. edit: also love how you made full segments about the music itself, as it's genuinely some of the best pop music i've heard and nobody will hear me out about that
Disney seems to be in the lead ATM. Disney has 5 Keyan Carlile retrospectives (Lab Rats, Mighty Med, Elite Force, Wizards, Suite Life 1) and Mr. Nostalgia’s Kickin’ It. Nick just has Quinton’s videos and this.
BTR was for me what One Direction was to the rest of the world and it always made me sad that no one talked about it. Your breakdown is SO good and I can't wait to see your part 2!
Big Time Rush is really unique for its time, it didn't really get to stand out when it release at first due to other popular Nick sitcoms taking the crown, but now, I think this show being different and unique contrast to other sitcoms is what I think makes it better than the rest. One, It had no laugh tracks and use music which is very creative. Plus, the characters made it feel like they're best friends, and the actors delivered a stellar performances. Also, maybe its just me, but I love most of BTR songs; they're memorable and sometimes can get stuck in my head for how catchy it is.This show I had a solft spot for back in the early 2010s, and is quite nostalgic. Seeing a 4 hour retrospective on this underrated gem of a sitcom is truly something I wanted see, and you did a great job diving in depth to this unforgettable masterpiece.

this only having 7.4k views is a crime; you having less than 300 subs is even more of a crime! BTR was one of my favorite shows growing up, I was 11 when it first started airing here in the Netherlands (2010), and I partly blame BTR for my love of boybands even now. They were my gateway into Kpop, in a way. And, It was thanks to them that I even discovered 1D, They joined them on the Better with U tour. That's where I first heard about 1D, that's even why I gave them a listen for the first time.
1:26:40 what's so great about this part is everyone in that scene got paid for a speaking role getting them residuals in the process proving indeed background work is acting
I am SO HAPPY that someone is finally talking about BTR. Recently, I've really been into Quinton Reviews and Mr. Nostalgia style content discussing classic kids shows. But none of them have ever talked about BTR and it was starting to make me crazy. BTR is such a good show and it deserves WAYYYY more hype than it gets.
I usually don't find physical humor funny but this show is the exception :D Also, I forgot how consistent the show was with its lore. I loved it as a kid when shows didn't just handwaved things away and tried to make callbacks.
Dude, like, a week ago I suddenly remembered BTR show existed and decided to rewatch couple of episodes and haven't noticed how fastly I started binging it. And then it turns out there are some guy who decided to upload 5 HOUR review on BTR AS HIS FIRST VIDEO A MONTH AGO. This is what people call fate, right?
i look back at BTR with such love and nostalgia and rewatching it is always a good time for me, so it’s so nice to hear someone else give the show and the band the love they deserve!
I love that their teacher Ms. Collins is played by Tara Strong. If you don't know her by her name and face, you'll definitely know her by her voice acting credits. Her credits include: - Timmy Turner from The Fairly Odd Parents - Poof from The Fairly Odd Parents - Dil Pickles from Rugrats - Raven from Teen Titans (Both in the original animated show and the newer Teen Titans Go) - Miss Minutes from Loki - Ben 10 from Ben 10 - Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls - Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Mushi Sanban from Codename: Kids Next Door And literally SO MANY OTHERS. I'm talking hundreds of voice acting credits. HUNDREDS. I'll include a link to all her credits because it's actually amazing. She was such a huge part of the childhoods of 90's and 2000s babies. Just wanted to give her a quick shout out in the comments because she's amazing and I love her.
they were THE boyband fr i was so obsessed with them between the ages of 12-15 it was unreal, even flew to the US to see them in concert and had a meet & greet, honestly THE sweetest guys ever, their hugs were amazing, they smelled SO good and even laughed because i was fangirling so hard. one of my absolute fondest memories from my teen years. Also cover girl and invisible were the songs i needed the most when i was 13 and they delivered!!!!!
55:05 in this scene, Kendall says he wants to go see Jo because he “has a thing for her”. Usually when people say this phrase they mean they like that person in a romantic sense, but for this joke, he literally “has a thing” to give to her, and that’s why it’s just a random object, or “thing”. It was a play on words, trying to say that he liked her (by using a normal phrase) but then they also make a physical joke with it as well. Hope I explained that well lol
i wont lie. that moment when logan's hand finds another hand and the romance music kicks in, and logan goes "oh" has stuck with me for years. he sounds so impressed and pleasantly surprised, like that isnt just his disembodied limb.
2:11:14 Im sure you'll find this out in part two but this actually sounds a lot like the series finale. Carlos meets a spy at an award show BTR is performing at and the episode ends with them dating. Also the actress that plays the spy (Alexa Vega) ends up marrying Carlos Pena in real life, and one more fun fact, her role as a spy is a reference to her time in spy kids as Carmen!!❤ great video!!❤❤
This is a fantastic video! It made me appreciate the show even more than I already did and made me wish I could rewatch it somehow 😄 it was so fun to have all my memories of this show brought back up and to learn more about the music, the games, the unaired pilot! I’m really looking forward to the next part of this series and to hear more of your thoughts!!
This really gotta be my favorite TH-cam genre now and I blame Quinton reviews for this trend of long ass show retrospectives that I can’t stop myself from watching. Looking forward to Part 2 for sure and I feel like for me I didn’t really like the show but those songs were WAY too good which kept me watching. Windows Down is definitely their definitive Summer Song
I can't believe this is the only video on your channel, its high quality, the script is good, editing is done well, commentary is fun to listen to. I can't wait for the other parts
SoCal in the 60s was big on surfing and drag racing, it was such a huge thing that the two crossed over a lot. Many carsploitation movies made at the time had surf music in them, but a showdown would either be a race or a fight or something like that. Those movies were barely over an hour long and sucked (I love them) The beach episode uses a lot of those tropes.
Hey, this was a great video man! BTR actually came to my campus for a mini-concert and the tickets sold out in just over a half hour. I didn't get to go; but the atmosphere was ELECTRIC and all four of them looked like they were having a blast performing again.
3:11:44 Annie is actually a guest from actor Gage Golighty, she played a character from another Nickelodeon show running at the time along with btr called “The Troop” she played the character Hayley Steele, which the show also has an hour long retrospective
I am having such a fun time with this. BTR was a success yet so few people actively discuss it since it wasn’t under shows by “the creator”. Nevertheless, this video projects gives me a great rush of nostalgia! I wish you the best.
god im so glad this video is a thing. ive wanted a big deep dive into this series for A LONG TIME. Although your recaps are great, its too bad, but also a blessing that you cant include every joke and gag. gives new viewers something to see! Oh also I THINK Ronna just likes free things so she enters lots of contests all the time just because ALSO Fun Fact: the series was created by Scott Fellows. Who also created Johnny Test. Which is why there are a TON of Voice Actor cameos. Like Tara Strong playing the PalmWoods teacher, Rob Paulson playing The Evil Coffee Machine AND Super Parrot, and Phil LaMarr playing George Hawk. And that isnt even all of them
Thank you for watching! And yes Scott fellows had some other projects that were very popular. Since he worked on fairly odd parents there were a ton of crossover actors there too (Tara Strong and Daran Norris just to name two)
FINALLY MORE BTR CONTENT i loved this show as a teen, actually went a concert! man Stephen Kramer Glickman really put his whole ass into being gustavo i forgot how funny he is and while i know the cartoonish slapstick and sound effects can be kid of cringe, i love how this show is so over the top with its acting- just like ned's declassified- i kind of love this genre of live action cartoon "kendall has a thing for jo" is honestly one of my fav jokes bc its literally just a "thing" i could have been literally anything but the way they have kendall say "i have a thing for her" and then to cut to him literally gifting her a random thing is amazing also lightning's name is probably a reference to bolt but the character itself is more a reference to spuds mackenzie i just cannot forget that dog... your tree hat is amazing
Thank you! I agree Stephen is such a talented actor and he gave it 110% for the whole show it’s hilarious. Also for the “thing” joke I realized like right after putting out the video that was the punchline and I plan on doing a whole segment in part 2 about little things like that but I’ll definitely credit you as you were the first one to point it out lol
@@zachbennett9134 oh omg thank you but i dont need credit for that LMAO and thank you for reading my incredibly rambling comment! haha i cant believe you got a cameo from doc hollywood thats so incredible!! amazing video i cant wait for the next part

Bro made an account and just dropped a near 5 hour much needed BTR retrospective that no one else would. Thank you for this, i live off of this content. Haven't gotten through this video yet, but hopefully you can get Neds as Scott's other big show. Thanks again
I knew that Buddha Bob was played by the Janitor guy in Ned's Declassified, but for some reason forgot it was Daran Noris, who also voiced Cosmo and Timmy Turner's Dad
BTR (both the band and the show) will always have a special place in my heart because it was something my dad and i could bond over. my family still watches the big time christmas special every year, much to my mom's dismay lol. great video! i really appreciate all the time and passion you dedicated to a NEARLY FIVE HOUR retrospective on BTR. hope you have a great day! :)
Amazing video! I never realized until you talked about it that one of the reasons I liked the BTR series was how little jokes seemed to have more behind it. The way they get brought back up and how characters are recurring is something I love in shows, but not having watched BTR since I was a kid, I never noticed how that seemed to be something they cared about!
@zachbennett9134 It gives the world so much life as well! And as a kid, when a side joke pays off you feel so much more involved in the show. It like "OH! I know what they mean by that!" While a lot of other places (and shows lets be honest) there are things that you know are supposed to be gunny, but have no idea why. Must have been extra work to keep track off as well.
This felt a lot like a Keyan Carlile video! I loved it! This is my safe space to admit how much I think about them going so hard while playing Til I Forget About You when Jo turns the sign around
28:07 I had to stop cleaning my room to come comment that I remember this exact scene because the “what’s up Mama Knight??” Rang a crazy familiar bell. Funny we both remember it
Gustavo and Kelly are my favorite duo of this show. I'd absolutely watch a spin off show of those two just arguing about basically anything for hours 😂. I'm surprised that Kelly managed to work as long as she possibly could as Gustavo's assistant 😂. Two of my favorite moments of them were them pranking each other and Kelly recording Gustavo's vocal for "Superstar" as the BTR boys 😂😂😂😂😂

1:26:40 what's so great about this part is everyone in that scene got paid for a speaking role getting them residuals in the process proving indeed background work is acting
Lol so true
I am SO HAPPY that someone is finally talking about BTR. Recently, I've really been into Quinton Reviews and Mr. Nostalgia style content discussing classic kids shows. But none of them have ever talked about BTR and it was starting to make me crazy. BTR is such a good show and it deserves WAYYYY more hype than it gets.
Yes! I love this genre of really long videos about my childhood shows
I absolutely N E E D a part two!!! This video was phenomenal and i cant wait for the next one!!!
Thank you! Part 2 is working right now!
I usually don't find physical humor funny but this show is the exception :D Also, I forgot how consistent the show was with its lore. I loved it as a kid when shows didn't just handwaved things away and tried to make callbacks.
I know it’s so endearing
Dude, like, a week ago I suddenly remembered BTR show existed and decided to rewatch couple of episodes and haven't noticed how fastly I started binging it. And then it turns out there are some guy who decided to upload 5 HOUR review on BTR AS HIS FIRST VIDEO A MONTH AGO. This is what people call fate, right?
That is fate at its finest work
That is fate at its finest work
A fine addition to my collection of retrospectives
Thank you!
3:05:05 James isn’t her bio brother and yet he is so protective of her. This is adorable. I love that he really seems to see her as a sister here
I know it’s one of the most underrated parts of the show. So wholesome
@@zachbennett9134 agreed! I absolutely adore seeing the guy’s dynamics with Katie and Ms Knight
i can’t even watch a tiktok longer than 30 secs but i fully enjoyed this whole 5hr vid. absolutely loved great job
Wow, thank you! Appreciate your support
I will always say this show is as good as Ned’s. And I love your use of Pokémon sun and moon music
Yes! And thank you I’m a huge Pokemon fan loo
i look back at BTR with such love and nostalgia and rewatching it is always a good time for me, so it’s so nice to hear someone else give the show and the band the love they deserve!
Thank you! I love seeing how much they mean to so many different people
I love that their teacher Ms. Collins is played by Tara Strong. If you don't know her by her name and face, you'll definitely know her by her voice acting credits. Her credits include:
- Timmy Turner from The Fairly Odd Parents
- Poof from The Fairly Odd Parents
- Dil Pickles from Rugrats
- Raven from Teen Titans (Both in the original animated show and the newer Teen Titans Go)
- Miss Minutes from Loki
- Ben 10 from Ben 10
- Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls
- Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
- Mushi Sanban from Codename: Kids Next Door
And literally SO MANY OTHERS. I'm talking hundreds of voice acting credits. HUNDREDS. I'll include a link to all her credits because it's actually amazing. She was such a huge part of the childhoods of 90's and 2000s babies. Just wanted to give her a quick shout out in the comments because she's amazing and I love her.
The other teacher is dee dee Bradley who is also in ben 10
Too bad she’s an awful human being
@@schemar17Dee Bradley Baker. He’s probably best known as the voice of Perry the Platypus on Phineas and Ferb.
Yeah she has an insane resume of voice acting parts. I had no idea
they were THE boyband fr i was so obsessed with them between the ages of 12-15 it was unreal, even flew to the US to see them in concert and had a meet & greet, honestly THE sweetest guys ever, their hugs were amazing, they smelled SO good and even laughed because i was fangirling so hard. one of my absolute fondest memories from my teen years. Also cover girl and invisible were the songs i needed the most when i was 13 and they delivered!!!!!
That’s awesome!
Yeah I realized that when editing lmao. So underrated
i wont lie. that moment when logan's hand finds another hand and the romance music kicks in, and logan goes "oh" has stuck with me for years. he sounds so impressed and pleasantly surprised, like that isnt just his disembodied limb.
Yeah that’s a weird episode lol. But in all the best ways
Yes! I alluded to that at 2:11:50
This is a fantastic video!
Thanks so much! More to come!
Carlos farting on a microfone is peak comedy men, absolutly no one expected that 😂😂
It makes me laugh every time lol
This really gotta be my favorite TH-cam genre now and I blame Quinton reviews for this trend of long ass show retrospectives that I can’t stop myself from watching. Looking forward to Part 2 for sure and I feel like for me I didn’t really like the show but those songs were WAY too good which kept me watching.
Windows Down is definitely their definitive Summer Song
Thank you! And yes windows down is a banger and a half
I can't believe this is the only video on your channel, its high quality, the script is good, editing is done well, commentary is fun to listen to. I can't wait for the other parts
Wow, thank you!
Yeah it’s so funny to see all the tropes they are parodying in that one. Such a great episode
The way their music and tv series will stand the test of time is a major win.
So true! They unironically both hold up super well
My favorite episode is when Cymphonique Miller came and had a girl group. The song from that episode, I Know You Know is a banger to this day 😌
It’s a good one! And yes I Know You Know is such a great song
bro. mad respect for putting this together, came out great
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it
@@zachbennett9134big time rush 2008- 2013 best show ever
Hey, this was a great video man! BTR actually came to my campus for a mini-concert and the tickets sold out in just over a half hour. I didn't get to go; but the atmosphere was ELECTRIC and all four of them looked like they were having a blast performing again.
Oh my gosh I’m so jealous that sounds amazing. Fun fact I live in the same city as James so hopefully I’ll run into him at some point lol
This show was my childhood so i’m glad you’re making a series on it! Scott fellows also made ned’s declassified if you want more cartoony sitcoms
Yeah I've been told! I'll have to check it out
this video is so close to the quality of quinton reviews on youtube (feels very well researched). thank you, and fantastic video!
Wow, thanks! Glad you liked it
The origin story of Zach Bennet's journey as a wiki editor ✍. 🤣
Trueeeee. I want the world to see Doc Hollywood
BTR was definitely one of my favorite shows growing up. loved this video can’t wait for pt.2 !!
Thank you! Part 2 is coming (hopefully) soon!
3:11:44 Annie is actually a guest from actor Gage Golighty, she played a character from another Nickelodeon show running at the time along with btr called “The Troop” she played the character Hayley Steele, which the show also has an hour long retrospective
Ah yes, Hippie Rat.
Oh interesting! So much trivia I never knew about these guest appearances
if you like big time rush you gotta love.... neds declasified ... scott fellows humour rocks
Yeah I’ve heard it’s a great show!
@@zachbennett9134It is! Highly would recommend it!
I am having such a fun time with this.
BTR was a success yet so few people actively discuss it since it wasn’t under shows by “the creator”.
Nevertheless, this video projects gives me a great rush of nostalgia!
I wish you the best.
Thanks so much! I experienced so much nostalgia making it so I’m glad other people feel that too!
This was one of my favorite shows as a kid
Me too! Thanks for watching
Bro's Scott The Wozniak for Big Time Rush
Hey all, Zach here
writing before watching. when you its 5 hours long and he's first video you know its going to be good
Lol I hope you enjoy!
god im so glad this video is a thing. ive wanted a big deep dive into this series for A LONG TIME. Although your recaps are great, its too bad, but also a blessing that you cant include every joke and gag. gives new viewers something to see! Oh also I THINK Ronna just likes free things so she enters lots of contests all the time just because
ALSO Fun Fact: the series was created by Scott Fellows.
Since he worked on fairly odd parents there were a ton of crossover actors there too (Tara Strong and Daran Norris just to name two)
@@zachbennett9134 another reason i love this show so much. ive got my eye out for part 2!
FINALLY MORE BTR CONTENT i loved this show as a teen, actually went a concert!
man Stephen Kramer Glickman really put his whole ass into being gustavo i forgot how funny he is
and while i know the cartoonish slapstick and sound effects can be kid of cringe, i love how this show is so over the top with its acting- just like ned's declassified- i kind of love this genre of live action cartoon
"kendall has a thing for jo" is honestly one of my fav jokes bc its literally just a "thing" i could have been literally anything but the way they have kendall say "i have a thing for her" and then to cut to him literally gifting her a random thing is amazing
also lightning's name is probably a reference to bolt but the character itself is more a reference to spuds mackenzie
i just cannot forget that dog...
your tree hat is amazing
Incredible video. I waited so long for someone to dedicate he's love for this amazing show. Thank you man.
Thank you! I’m glad you liked the video!
I just found this video and was expecting it to have over a million views. Your work is amazing, I love this throwback video essays on tv shows, I’ll be rewatching it
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
this was my favorite nick show growing up, so happy to see you talk abt it in full!! can't wait for pt 2 :D
Thanks for watching! Part 2 is on the way
Okay you GOTTA watch Ned’s declassified next, I still rewatch it to this day I love it.
Yes I’ve heard it’s good! I’ll have to check it out sometime
this is such a good first video! i’m amazed, bro, good luck 🤞
Thanks!
One of the best shows to touch Nickelodeon. No cap.
So true!
I just realized, I forgot say in my comments: I’m very excited for the second video! You did a great job!
Yay! Thank you!
How is this only your first video!? Truly an amazing video that I’m adding to my playlist! 💟
Thank you so much! I appreciate that!
Bro made an account and just dropped a near 5 hour much needed BTR retrospective that no one else would. Thank you for this, i live off of this content. Haven't gotten through this video yet, but hopefully you can get Neds as Scott's other big show. Thanks again
Thanks for that! Yeah I would love to watch Ned at some point
I knew that Buddha Bob was played by the Janitor guy in Ned's Declassified, but for some reason forgot it was Daran Noris, who also voiced Cosmo and Timmy Turner's Dad
Yeah he has been in all sorts of Scott Fellows projects. Dudes a legend
Thanks for sharing! My family and I also watch the Christmas special every year
Zach blessing us with the retrospective we've all needed 🙌
Thanks a lot!
I think a great part of this show was that Dan Schneider wasn't involved so there were no horrible foot jokes.
So true. Glad there’s not the crazy baggage that comes along with watching other Nickelodeon shows
the ending is incredible omfg! i breezed through this whole video in less than 24 hours, and i can't wait for part two, whenever it comes out!
Thanks so much! Glad you liked the video
Yeah that's honestly the most charming thing I've found in this rewatch. Almost like it was tailor made for nostalgists like me lol
I love how there's a clear intelligence hierarchy between the four main characters which the series respects and mantains
Lol so true!
wow i’d only seen the first episode before this vid but now i’m so invested???? i want to see these guys live
They’re actually amazing live! Definitely recommend going to one of their shows if you’re close by
I love 5 hour long retrospectives on old sitcoms for 12 year olds, I cant wait to binge this whole video.
That’s the spirit! Thanks for watching
This felt a lot like a Keyan Carlile video! I loved it! This is my safe space to admit how much I think about them going so hard while playing Til I Forget About You when Jo turns the sign around
Lol that’s so valid! Thank you!
28:07 I had to stop cleaning my room to come comment that I remember this exact scene because the “what’s up Mama Knight??” Rang a crazy familiar bell. Funny we both remember it
Lol my sister said the exact same thing. Someone about Logan’s delivery made it stick in my brain all these years
Gustavo and Kelly are my favorite duo of this show.
Lol those are both amazing
