Before The Germs, X, and Black Flag, The Go Go's there was the Screamers. I started going to punk shows in 1979 as a young 15-year-old and sadly missed seeing them. Every night in LA back then there were 6-8 shows every night, yes every night !! The Screamers gigs were stories of legend.

@@Mikeymanza1Those EP's are all 'after the fact' bootleg releases of audio taken from videos like this one. The Screamers were dead set against recording and releasing records. Their intention was to be 100% a media-art presentation.

So I honestly have been studying music academically and listened to it for a long time. And there are truly many great vocalists and lead singers out there in the music world. But honestly tomata du plenty has to be up there on my top 5 favorite. Now I'm not saying he had the best vocals or best sounding vocals of all time. But you can't deny the man's raw energy and total vibe and oneness with that high energy sound lol. I love it. And I think it's kinda cool they didn't sign to any record company when they could have easily. Kind of sticking it to the man and playing what you want in a way

The greatest band to never release an record. They wanted it to be absolutely perfect, and before they thought it would be, they broke up. And had added a female vocalist and I think a horn player and completely changed their sound. We only have this from Target Video and a few demos. Let that be a lesson - record that shit, even if you don’t think it’s perfect!

Seems like I read an article lately that had the Screamers waiting on the majors to come calling with big money as opposed to any DIY ethics or preference for video. Too bad they broke up right before the underground was about to establish itself to an extent that it could have supported them via gigs and indie distros. Punk in those days was still seen as a commodity...sometimes even to the bands themselves.
