A chance meeting in 1983 in majorca with Bob Donaldson from Red Row has led 2 me getting 2 top racing in East Down Combine n ireland with life long friend Drew Harper in last 9 seasons 19 open Combines 6 e d c bird of years 5 I h u North b o y First yb Titan Best yb in u kingdom Trophy Gold Medal 3000 pounds this would never been possible without Bob and other n East fanciers Alan Kelly Taylor bros and Alfie Hawthorn all salt of earth lads my friendship with Bob lasted 36 years until his passing 2yrs ago 😀

Never would kill a pigeon for failing. It will be retired. In fact, a true fancier would see that any pigeon that returns home, no matter how long it takes, is a winner. Some are racers and some are Homer's. I personally would rather have one that will return home. If I can't race it, I can always use it to carry messages or very small packs back home.
I ended up in partnership with Rod adams and helped him with the birds for about 8/9 years right up to winning 1st unc bourges in 1998. Very happy times and Rod is an amazing bloke with unbelievable knowledge of everything pigeon related.I visited all the greats from yesteryear e.g Ayton Marshall,Billy napper,Billy gibbons,Herbie elliot,etc etc.......Hope your well Rod👍
The guy in vidio at start was a good freind of mine Kenny Holland I first met him when I was with the PDF HE saddle died a few weeks ago . My late father come from a place called Skinningrove a real hot bed down there I would spend many great holidays there staying with Bill Drummer Wilson and is wife Pat sadly both gone . In the time of "CORONAVIRUS WORLD WAR - 3" in 2020 when your own life is at the hands of a invisible pandemic it's cinema and documentaries that breaks all barriers and provides solace and entertainment in the confines of home.As a lifelong sports enthusiast and a silver jubilee pathological gambler on horse racing decided to understand the sport of pigeon racing.In England "PIGEON RACING" was the first sport of 2020 after the easing of "Coronavirus Pandemic-2020 Lockdown " restrictions that has swept the World.The Barnsley Federation of Racing Pigeons released 4,465 birds from a park in Kettering at 10:00 BST for them to fly the 90 miles (145km) home.Picked the right documentary and found this partly historical documentary extremely educating to a novice from Mumbai in India where pigeon racing does exist in a few city's. Had studied a course in "Marine Engineering" at the South Shields College in South Shield during the winter of 1984/85 and didn't observe any pigeons in the brutal winter of North East England.Mining as a profession has become extinct in North East England and surprised to know that in England "Pigeon Racing" was a lower income sport of the miners unlike a sport requiring a lot of monetary investment in the 21st century.Surprised to know that China and Taiwan are the country that now monopolizes "Pigeon Racing" with a Chinese purchasing the costliest racing pigeon "Armando " for 1.4 million U.S dollars. Thought only race horse cost that amount of money. Surprised that the Royal Family of England is also actively involved in "Pigeon Racing" as i was under the impression they only raced horses.A excellent historical documentary that deserves a place in the museum archives of pigeon racing.One of my favourite boxer's Mike.Tyson is a pigeon fancier and If "PIGEON RACING" existed in Mumbai i would definitely have been a active player in this bird sport.
