- Here's my favorite song from the musical. Lea Salonga and Will Chase in the Manila production of Miss Saigon more than a decade ago. I've seen clips posted here on TH-cam before (including the encore) but the quality of this video is better than any of those. Enjoy!

How is she underrated? She is considered the greatest female lead in the West End and on Broadway. Read the comments of Cameron Macintosh and Claude-Michel Schönberg you can find this on Google. After landing the part the Lead part of Kim in Miss Saigon, she went onto a record stint on Broadway and got the role of Éponine in the Broadway production of Les Misérables. You are talking utter nonsense. She is recogised as one of the best ever.
I love Will Chase as Chris. He's the best one by miles. He brought a masculine sensitivity to the role. He and Lea has extraordinary chemistry. Plus, he looks like a damn good kisser.

Miss Saigon actually premiered in the West End London in 1989 until 1999 , it opened in Broadway in 1991.

Will chase is the most credible in his perpormance same with lea the only kim for me the best of the best.
She has immortalized herself in this role.

OUCH, I feel old! I saw it on B'way in 1991 with Salonga, Jonathan Pryce, Hinton Battle, and a different Chris who was nowhere near as good as Will Chase is here. The other 3 richly deserved their Tonys. I can't believe the chemistry these two had.

Binge watching Ms Saigon clips for hours now. I just realized Lea’s 30yrs old in this 2000 Manila run of Miss Saigon! She’s still as gorgeous and her voice is still as clear as her 18 year old self! Amazing!
Lea's birthday is 2/22/71, so she would have been 29 in 2000. They were both in the Broadway MISS SAIGON when it closed in Jan 2001, so she stopped playing Kim before she turned 30. :)

One of the best scenes between Lea and Will as Kim and Chris. Will had so much sex appeal with his acting and singing, they really complimented each other, them being so young. Very touching between two young passionate lovers. You could almost feel the tragic situation...... that nothing good was going to come out of this love which was doomed from the beginning.
It's superb ! The best ever kind of musical Broadway that, as what I understand, this is the only musical show that bring Princess Diana into tears ! When it was showned back in London .
Will Chase never ceases to amaze me. His abilities are most profound. He colors his words of the lyrics in such a way as to have the viewer get into the story completely. He is sexually powerful, lyrically smooth, and such a perfect Chris. He is the best, hands down. I have seen several and I rank him number one!
With him, you can understand why Kim would be so hung up on Chris for years afterward.
I've seen Miss Saigon over 16 times in different counties, and I think this is the best The Last Night of the world!! Love it!! Will Chase and Lea Salonga both are very good indeed!!
I remember this at my dad's funeral and you were there, Ken. I remember Glen from the lions club doing the eulogy as my mum wanted this song played because she loved him so much and she said she had the best holiday with my dad Bryan and danced like there was no tomorrow in Fuengirola. He knew his heart was failing and was on a waiting list for a stent. I think my mum knew it was touch and go and so did I when we went to Cleethorpes in uncle Clifford's caravan in the October half term. It brings back so many memories of that day at the methodist church. I am so glad that the lions club members gave my mum the help and support she needed to get through the day, leaving her husband in spain and not able to see him again. David Harpin, Andrew Tate and his sister did a wonderful job 👏

Lea was born to sing the music of Boubil and Schonberg, she's perfect in this and Les Mis.

Lily DeThyre there is a miss saigon movie (DVD) while the show was in London. Lea Salonga was part of the gala (Miss Saigon celebrated 25 years) Lea sings the movie in my mind with Rachel Ann and Last night of the world with Simon Bowman (the first Chris she sang with) DVD can be found on Amazon UK only.
Although that filmed version in London is perfect in every way, there is talking of producing an actual cinematic feature of Miss Saigon. It would be nice if Lea took the role of Gigi maybe.

Simon Bowman played a great Chris but Will's casting is still my favorite. Many quality women have played Kim but Lea was born for that role.

I totally agree with you. Lea Salonga and Will Chase are the only Kim and Chris for me as well. I recently watched the new production with Emily Bautista as Kim and Anthony Festa as Chris. It was my first time watching a Miss Saigon production. I thought they were very good. They both have great voices. However, I totally love the Manila 2000 production! I watch it daily!

I saw Miss Saigon in Philly yesterday and while it was wonderful it’s hard to imagine anyone but Lea Salonga as Kim. Her voice is so beautiful and you feel a deep connection to anything she sings.

My introduction to Miss Saigon was the DVD of the 25th anniversary production at the Prince Edward Theatre. I thought that Eva and Alistair were very good, but Lea and Will are on another level. I will be thinking about this musical for a while.

There’s nothing wrong with a little flirting, as long as you don’t act on it..speaking as a medical professional, it’s good for our mental health to know that we’re still considered attractive, and often give me a much need ego boost on those days I think no one could ever possibly find me attractive give after 32 years of marriage to the same man…heck, he and I both flirt together. Like many, I suffered from low self esteem most of my life…and while some may call it superficial, I call it a compliment when someone is checking me out. Don’t care if it’s a man or a woman, it’s flattering just the same, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all, and it doesn’t mean you love your spouse any less. My hubby is from El Salvador, with typical sexy Latin good looks. When people hit on him, I’m flattered and proud that he’s my guy, and because I know I can trust him 100%, and vice versa when I get hit on. Strangely, I get hit on at 52 years old more then I did in my 20’s, same goes for my hubby…we’re both a terrible tease, but admit it, it’s fun, and nice to know I haven’t lost all my looks with age (but I do work hard to stay in good shape, not for attention, but to stay healthy after beating cancer 3 times already). I believe it’s just human nature to look at what we find appealing, as I said, as long as we don’t cross the line for a quickie, it’s perfectly fine. But being gay is different in that when I go to the gym, I see everything close up in the locker room, so a lot of guys, straight or gay, do cross that line and are shocked when I turn them down. That part I’ll never understand, those vows I took were sacred to me, but seems a lot of men don’t care either way! For example…I’m in the gym just before Covid closed everything, and this 20 something year old guy with a body, butt, and crotch better then most porn stars, hops in the shower across from me (fogged glass partitions between stall, but no curtains so men on the other side see everything), starts looking at me, proceeds to get an erection and motions for me to join him…yeah….not going to happen, so he just stands there masturbating, and ejaculating, starring at me as I do my best to ignore him. I go to work the next day, and guess who the newest doctor just hired, to work with me was? Turns out he’s married to woman with 3 kids! Why do they do that?
I saw Alastair and Eva first so they will always be my Kim and Chris, but I have to admit these two absolutely nail this song* and this is the best rendition of it easily

I dream of this sort of love, it’s pretty much every female’s fantasy. Whilst I would never compare most things a westernised female has gone through to the situation of Kim’s, who doesn’t dream of some big strong handsome man picking us up, whisking us away and saving us from whatever situation were in? From the get go you can tell the whole things sort of too good to be true; I dream of this sort of romance but I know it’s just a fantasy. I had a similar thing to this when I was 16, much older guy like in this, just picked me up, whisked me away; the guy freakin’ dead now, he hung himself 2 years ago.
No matter how wonderful and romantic something may seem at the time you have no idea how the future is going to pan out and life is harsh and cruel.

How interesting when I see the board "Tân hôn", it means "the amazing wedding night" in Vietnamese. Although the musical is about a Vietnamese girl, few Vietnamese people know about it, and none of the actresses playing Kim is Vietnamese (Kim is not even a popular Vietnamese name). The "ao dai" Lea is wearing was not made in the right way either. However, the musical is great and love them both.
