    I’m in agreement with you, for what it’s worth!! My opinion is just that...but like you, after 30 plus years of hunting and thousands of artifacts found, I’ve seen enough to know when an artifact is of general use or purpose. You said it best when you said there would be a need for multiple of this type, if it were indeed a net weight. They wouldn’t be in numbers like cutting tools or projectile points, but there would have certainly been more than just one found!! Another great point you made was the obvious time and effort put into making such an object!! Pieces such as gorgets, bannerstones, pendants and other exceptionally crafted items were typically made to last long periods of time.....so they weren’t mass producing them like they were points, knives and scrapers!! That’s why they are such a coveted rare artifact!! Whatever this piece is, I don’t believe it was manufactured to be tossed around or exposed to impact!! I would lean toward tie-on banner or some form of adornment item.....possibly even a symbol of status. Again, just my opinion!! Very interesting and unique artifact to say the least my friend!! 👍

    I've heard them called net sinkers myself. I don't know. We don't even find any here in Kentucky where I'm at anyway. I would probably jump up and down if I found that! Amazing! I would love to see a clean up of it. Incredible find!

    I think this field is by definition in some cultures and time periods, showing special projectile points made that were clearly not created for working use at all. These
    can be elaborately worked stone objects such as the so-called eccentrics or created for placement in a burial or other ritual context. I've read that microscopic research into edge damage (called 'use-wear analysis') has shown that some of the stone tools that look like projectile points may have been hafted cutting tools. Have you read about points excavated from intact archaeological sites, forensic analysis which can often identify trace elements of blood or protein on the edges of tools, allowing the archaeologist to make substantive interpretations on what was the purpose of the points? Called blood residue or protein residue analysis, the test has become a fairly common one. Nice video. Eaglegards...

      @@indiantrace371 Please understand, I'm not a specialist in this area of study. I find it fascinating that you go out and hunt for these treasures. We do need more disquisitions on these artifacts. The objects need to be found. I hope you carefully document the finds for future generations. Like location spots. Have you ever thought of an archeological dig? The current political objections to study of long forgotten artifacts is disgusting and unscientific. Understand I'm not being critical of your passion. You're doing a good job. Plus, I love your political discussion in the side bars. Hard to talk here. God bless. Thanks for replying back. It meant a lot.

    • @indiantrace371
      @indiantrace371  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed! If it were any kind of "net weight" does it stand to reason that they would have needed them in abundance? Very much like the hunting points, YET I have never found so much as a piece in 16,000 artifacts? I am a fisher and a hunter... the "weight" would have needed to be MANY and duplicated. Besides, the time would NOT have been used to make such simple needs as weights?

  • @raidermike3244

    Definitely an atlatl weight!!!

    • @indiantrace371
      @indiantrace371  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting thought. However, there is no utility in how it was attached seeing that every edge is convex. On an efficient weight of any sort, there must be a tight tie down.

    Wow Ben, that weight is Museum quality for certain. Love the scraper too, a very robust one meant for hard use no doubt. My thoughts on the reason for going to the trouble to make that weight so smooth....wont snag on the net and for ease of retrieval from the water. Be well.
