Great video about this fine piece of Russian history. I have the older brother of this camera, the 312m, which does not have DX reader, but have a manual ISO dial. I like to use this camera, because it has the real mechanical feeling, especially when pressing the shutter, I can feel every moving part shaking the whole camera. However I have the same problems as you. The focusing and light metering is a hit-and-miss. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not. I have an older Helios 44M, a 35mm F2.8 Auto Admiral, and a 135mm F2.4 lens from an other far eastern manufacturer. The focusing are very strange with these lens, that I think it's something with the camera's factory setup, because when I put these lens on my Praktica BCA with original M42-PB adapter, the focusing works well, and the Av half-automatic mode works perfectly there.
Yes! I use my Zenith lenses with my Fuji setup and, while manual, they're perfectly capable of getting sharp photos. I think it's about the QA of Zenith bodies. I was toying with the idea of finding someone who can recalibrate the camera (maybe the prism needs to be readjusted so that the image in the viewfinder and the image on film match?) but eventually I gave up. There are far better cameras out there :)
