TIPS On Watering Succulents When It's HOT | Growing Succulents with LizK

  • It's advisable NOT to WATER your succulents when temperatures are above 30°C|86°F. My propagated babies need watering right now. Should I risk killing them by watering them now or should I wait a couple of days when there's a risk of them dying from dehydration?

    Thanku again for a timely video. Here its raining since a couple of days and then the sun gets out and is hot. So its a bit challenging at present. I after sending a lot of succulents across the bridge started following your advice and its made a huge difference. I just water at night now as its post 8.30,9 pm that the temp drops to 25. Thanku once again

    I started collecting succulents last summer and I killed so many of them by fussing with them too much and overwatering. I am going to need to learn some restraint and remind myself that if it feels too hot for me to go outside to water, the plants probably don't want to be watered anyway.

    Hello Liz! I'm from Argentina so we share same seasons but summers here are much hotter specially this year we've had extremely high temperatures, from 34 to 38 degress and 28 at night and no rain at all. I've lost many plants mainly because of sun burn and watering issues. Now I've learnt that no watering is the key! One question: do you water with seaweed solution even in summer, when many succulents are still dormant? Big hug from Argentina! Love your videos! ❤😊

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hola Sylvia, I use seaweed in summer also because it helps the overall wellbeing of the plant. Makes them stronger and able to withstand more heat. The mature/big plants get a lot of watering before the extreme summer heat, so they don't need to be watered on the last month of summer when temperatures are at its highest. My Romeos in big pots don't get watering at all during summer except of course if they show signs of dehydration.
      I also find that if they are kept in a controlled environment such as my 50% UV shade cloth area, even summer dormant succulents like the aeonium continues to grow. Thanks for watching. 🥰

    I see it was really hot in Australia, here today was 40 degrees F and we celebrate first day of spring. Today I watered my succulents like you did in a video. I soaked the pots in rain water and some seaweed mix. Used last of rain water, stores have no distilled water - can I use tap water??
    Thank you

      I'm so sorry to hear that. Most succulents die from overwatering. As I've stated in this video, if they don't look like they need water, don't water them. If they look thirsty... soak them. They can also rot from being thirsty.

    • @aaliya1083

      @@GrowingSucculentswithLizK How to understand their thirst even thirsty👅💦 one can die from rot🤪, some times I try to water only sufficient for succulents roots to soakup and not the entire pot, &leave rest for the destiny

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't water at all during summer when temperature goes over 30°C. If there's really thirsty plants, I take them indoors and soak them overnight.

      @@GrowingSucculentswithLizK hi liz :) i get extreme hot temps as well, when i take a thirsty succulent indoors will it be okay to place it back outside in the morning-afternoon sunlight after getting soaked overnight or would the heat of the next day cause burning after being watered? does keeping it inside overnight allow the plant to absorb? here in texas its about to be 100F all week 😰

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On a plant that is mature and have roots, it can be watered like other plants. But in some that have thick farina, best to submerge the pot to soil level to keep it pristine looking.
