Loyal to Lily. Snape should have been more kind to Harry considering that he was the reason Harry was an orphan. He could have took Harry under his wing like Lupin and Sirius did, but he was blinded by his hatred of James. Begrudgingly protecting Harry does not absolve him of the murder of James/Lily. His goading even played a part in Sirius's death. I've never understood fan attempts to redeem characters like Snape and Draco. Was he pure evil? No. Was he still mostly bad? Yes. He couldn't tell Voldemort anything about Dumbledore having already been disarmed when he had killed him because as far as he knew it only would have ruined everything he had done and conspired with Dumbledore to achieve, including having to kill Dumbledore. He had no choice but to stick to a modified version of the plan to the bitter end by not revealing the truth of who he believed really was the wands true master...Draco. He likely didn't know that in the ultimately fortuitous series of events at Malfoy manor that Harry had disarmed Draco and thus was the wands true master. Snape's sacrifice wasn't in vein at all because fortunately it meant the plan worked out even better as Voldemort had no idea he was actually going up against the wands true master when he fought Harry during their final confrontation .

Well, there's also only one word: Occlumency. Snape is an expert Legilimens at Voldemort's level. He's vigilantly protecting the truth from him at all times thereby risking his life in the process. Voldemort knew when a person is lying. Like Snape, he didn't have to cast a spell on his victim because he's already doing it during a conversation. He's also quick to twist the events in a person's mind as part of the Legilimens spell, then quickly make a surprise attack. So Snape, knowing all this, must expertly make Voldemort believe all throughout the interrogation that he's the Elder Wand's master. If I'm in his shoes, after Dumbledore's death, if there's one person I would want to tell the truth, that'd be my beloved Lily's only son Harry and no one else even if the Dark Lord will kill me.. Also, he must never let Voldemort know who his actual and real master all along: Dumbledore. Snape is obeying his master's will from the very beginning and from then on was actually ready to die anytime just for love. And from Voldemort's perspective, Snape is his smartest Death Eater with a questionable and mysterious level of loyalty that is too difficult to ponder because of his background, yet he still comes to his call anytime. Killing him with that spell is just too easy and too fast.

@@LycanKai14 it is though. There is no conscience, nothing holding him back besides whether someone is useful or not. That's why he can cast avada kedavra at anytime. He chose to kill Snape the way he did because of the elder wand and using Nagini was the best tactical move. It's not because he "respects" him. He doesn't respect anyone. @UnfazedPhoenix ปีที่แล้ว +20

@nope4309 You really don't know anything about his history do you? Ok no worries I'll fill you in! Merope Gaunt (Tom riddle/ voldemorts mother) was a witch and used Amortentia on his father, Tom Riddle Sr - a Muggle, who later abandoned her once she stopped using the potion on him. She hoped Tom Sr would fall in love with her anyway but he didn't. He found her disgusting. But yea so voldemort was conceived under the effects of a love potion so he literally can't feel love. So nothing anyone does after that can affect him. He was born defective essentially because of his mother's actions. And the Gaunt family are direct descendants of Salazar Slytherin which is why he's the heir, but it's also why he hates half bloods. He's a hypocrite, like a lot of villains, and really he is a half blood. Check out this channel they have a lot of cool information about the hp world SuperCarlinBrothers. Also, it's suspected that's why he can split his soul so many times into the horcruxes, besides his all encompassing fear of death of course. But other humans are a means to an end for him. It's actually easy for him to murder people it's like a regular task that he has to do, the way we look at Idk brushing our teeth or something like that. The only reason he makes the purebloods feel like he respects them is because he needs them. No matter how strong he is, he needs followers and an army. He can't take over the world alone. And he is very charismatic, especially in the beginning of his reign, people are drawn to that and his power. He actually did have to prove himself to the purebloods.

Nobody ever talks about how Snape was saved by James from being bitten to death in the shrieking shack and owed him a life debt. So he never repaid that debt (he was trying to protect Harry for Lily's sake, not to repay James). He is then eventually bitten to death in the shack. I always thought that was an interesting conclusion to his arc. For all the personal growth he achieved he never was able to let go of his petty schoolboy hatred of James and it eventually led to his death. The running theme of choice/fate and its consequences is something I think Rowling does really well throughout the series. I don't absolve Snape of his sins just because he carried a torch for Lily all those years but he is a fascinating and flawed gray area character.

Does being called a Mudblood lessen their capabilities to cast spells? No. Does being called a Mudblood cause their magic to disappear? No. The thing is, the belief of hating Mudbloods has been passed down to the pure bloods descendants and it won't change in a snap just because majority of the wizarding community was okay with Mudbloods. It takes time to for one's mind to tolerate certain beliefs until they accept it. So, being called a Mudblood by someone and the who was aimed it at being upset and all only means that the person's opinion who said to matters or just because they wanted to be loved by all - who wanted to be seen as high and mighty.
