Didn't know how to use them. Also, heard negative comments about them. So, I just placed them away in my art room. But, this year is a new beginning. I have all the tools: Ohulu Honolulu Alcohol Markers, Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, Faber-Castell Watercolor Pencils, NEOCOLOR II WATER SOLUBLE WAX PASTELS, Distress oxide inks and regular oxide inks and more. 😂 I am sure I will return to this video often. excellent advice and beautiful background now I know how to use the gelatos I will use them a lot more and I can see how easy it is with the right tool I was using water and having a hard time getting enough color on there thank you so much

Thank you Sing !! I don’t think you necessarily need creativity for a background. What’s nice about these Gelatos is you can just use one color but it gives the picture than finishing touch. 😊

Wow! Gorgeous! I had a couple of gelatos laying in a drawer that came in a package set I picked up at Tuesday Morning (discount store) for the stencils in it. They rolled around in that drawer forever because I didn't know what to do with them. Not anymore! I had a hard time finding the translucent set, but scored a set on Etsy on sale! Now I have 2 more sets sitting in my Amazon cart. Thank you so much for your videos! I am completely hooked. 🤩

Love this for backgrounds which I struggle with. Kerning the neo 2 is taking me a bit of time. Will definately get a small set of these to play with as I struggle with smoothness in my backgrounds which is why I usually go for eyeshadows.
I absolutely love Gelatos Desirée. Another option in oil pastels and mineral spirits. I have several videos on here using them as well. You will find them in the “backgrounds” playlist.

Thank you for this explanation regarding the right Brushes - I wanted so much to love these, but they sure don't work well with the spongy makeup tip applicators I tried. I ordered the brushes you suggested.
Thank you Karen I have these, but they lie unused in a drawer as I have only seen them used by smudging with fingers which does not give a lot of control - the little stencil brush does a great job so I'm off to the shops 😁 picture is stunning btw 🤗
I have a few gelatos which i rarely use. You inspired me :) just fyi i didnt have a short bristled stencil brush but found i could get a pretty good effect with finger dauber. Anybody out there that has those they work too :)
Karen, I'm so glad you did this video on Gelatos. I actually bought a set from Amazon several months ago because they were so much less expensive than Neocolor II. I tried to use 2 colors but they looked terrible so I sent them back. Now after watching your video, I'm going to buy them again. Thank you! BTW, I think you may be coloring outside in the sun. LOL! You have such a dark tan on your hands and arms.
Yes!! Go buy them back!! For me, it’s all about that short bristle stencil brush. It works wonders!!! As far as my tan... I’m not sure if it’s just video or not, but living in Arizona is probably a contributing factor!! 😂
Oh I hope you like them Lou Lou! I’ve been having trouble finding a new reasonably priced source for the short bristle brushes. They are out of stock on Amazon and have been for a while. Did you find some?
@@LouLou-dk9ye If they are regular stencil brushes, they will probably not work as the bristles are too long. There is a link for the ones I use in the description box. You can look at the picture and see the length that works best. 😊
Hello, YOU do very Beautiful work ! I can’t wait to try.! Though I did a couple of quick looks at your video listings, (trying to adjust to a newer tablet). Do you have any videos on how to shade with prisms pencils ? I love how you shaded these ladies skin tone, hair, etc.. I’ve worked with Prisma pencils but cannot achieve this level of shading. As well where would I find such lovely pictures/images to work on ? Thank you, I’m looking forward to watching many more of your videos !

I have a whole playlist just for coloring skin tones and most of them are using Prismacolor pencils. There is a link in the description box below the video. Most stencil brushes are just too long and bendy. I have several other videos using the gelatos for backgrounds. Can you use these over watercolor I know you can use gelato over acrylic...I'm just learning about this product as I've struggled with backgrounds with watercolor and I was going to put derwert inktense blocks on a want wish list to save up for I'm not sure which to buy as I'm limited on my art products space and budget but i saw your video and I like the idea of buying also the short bristle brushes instead of using my fingers as I'm limited mobility with hands on my bad days. This artwork and colors reminds me of my grandmother's art during the early forties and fifties......mikelle just a art mom learning new products ..thru grace kindness of other artist...many art blessings to you...
The thing I like about the Gelatos is that you can use them either dry or wet. That makes them very versatile. They can be used over watercolors if used dry. If you use water it will reactivate the watercolors. Inktense blocks are lovely and the colors will be much more rich and vibrant but they must be used with water. I hope that answers your questions. ❤️❤️❤️
I have several color along videos where I use the Gelatos for the background. If you look at the “backgrounds “ playlist you should be able to find which pages I use them on. 😊

They have a very good colour bank , but I wanted to supplement them with a small set of gelatos. What pack would you suggest? I was thinking either metallic or iridescent ? Thanks!
Hi Susan! I think if it were me I would choose the Iridescent set. (There are 2) or if you can swing it, the Dolce gift set 2 has some wonderful colors.

Thank you Sherry! I can’t remember the combo it was such a long time ago. But I’m sure you can get a similar look by using Polychromos Crean, Bistre, walnut Brown, sepia and black. There are several videos here where I use that combo.

Hi Karen, I have been given some gelatos and want to get some stencilling brushes like you have to use with them. I have been looking online and I don’t know if there are different types of brush. Are they all the same? I don’t want to spend a lot of money if a cheap stencilling brush will do the job. (Love the video, learnt lots, thankyou so much.)
Hi Dee!! The important thing is is the length of the bristles. There is a link in the description box to a set on Amazon US where you can see the length I recommend. Longer bristle brushes will bend and be difficult to use. If you are in the US, Michaels carries the set I use, but I am finding over the time the bristles are coming out. Not a big deal because they are pretty cheap and easily replaced, but I am going to purchase the set I spoke of on Amazon.

Oh, you mean instead of using a mixing palette? I suppose you could, but because the paper is porous I don’t think you will get as smooth if a blend. I think you would see the swirly marks that you first get when putting it strait on to the paper.
@@LEAHMARIEMONKEY the ones I used in the video are crap Leah. The bristles fall out. But they aren’t any shorter. The black handles ones are excellent and the only ones I use now

@@bolshoibooze85 lol. I’m such a dummy. Neocolor II’s are much harder and more crayon like. The Gelatos are soft and creamy. Almost like a lip balm. Neos can be used but it takes a lot more work. Heat will help soften them.

I have a few gelatos which i rarely use. You inspired me :) just fyi i didnt have a short bristled stencil brush but found i could get a pretty good effect with finger dauber. Anybody out there that has those they work too :)

Karen, I'm so glad you did this video on Gelatos. I actually bought a set from Amazon several months ago because they were so much less expensive than Neocolor II. I tried to use 2 colors but they looked terrible so I sent them back. Now after watching your video, I'm going to buy them again. Thank you! BTW, I think you may be coloring outside in the sun. LOL! You have such a dark tan on your hands and arms.
Yes!! Go buy them back!! For me, it’s all about that short bristle stencil brush. It works wonders!!! As far as my tan... I’m not sure if it’s just video or not, but living in Arizona is probably a contributing factor!! 😂

@@LouLou-dk9ye If they are regular stencil brushes, they will probably not work as the bristles are too long. There is a link for the ones I use in the description box. You can look at the picture and see the length that works best. 😊

Hello, YOU do very Beautiful work ! I can’t wait to try.! Though I did a couple of quick looks at your video listings, (trying to adjust to a newer tablet). Do you have any videos on how to shade with prisms pencils ? I love how you shaded these ladies skin tone, hair, etc.. I’ve worked with Prisma pencils but cannot achieve this level of shading. As well where would I find such lovely pictures/images to work on ? Thank you, I’m looking forward to watching many more of your videos !

I have a whole playlist just for coloring skin tones and most of them are using Prismacolor pencils. Hi Arlene! I’m so glad you liked it. 😊 The page came from Mariola Budek Etsy store. (Sorry I forgot to link it) The best brushes I found came from Amazon. There is a link in the description box below the video. Most stencil brushes are just too long and bendy. I have several other videos using the gelatos for backgrounds. There is a whole plush just for backgrounds to make them easier to find. Happy coloring!!❤️❤️❤️

Thank you Marja! Are you able to get the old style toothbrushes? The kind that are flat across the bristles. Those should work too. The long bristle brushes bend too much. Or can just use your fingers.

Yes I do Angie, thankfully I wrote it down! It was Prismacolor Beige, light umber, espresso and a warm black like Schpirerr Farben or Polychromos.

Can you use these over watercolor I know you can use gelato over acrylic...I'm just learning about this product as I've struggled with backgrounds with watercolor and I was going to put derwert inktense blocks on a want wish list to save up for I'm not sure which to buy as I'm limited on my art products space and budget but i saw your video and I like the idea of buying also the short bristle brushes instead of using my fingers as I'm limited mobility with hands on my bad days. This artwork and colors reminds me of my grandmother's art during the early forties and fifties......mikelle just a art mom learning new products ..thru grace kindness of other artist...many art blessings to you...
The thing I like about the Gelatos is that you can use them either dry or wet. That makes them very versatile. They can be used over watercolors if used dry. If you use water it will reactivate the watercolors. Inktense blocks are lovely and the colors will be much more rich and vibrant but they must be used with water. I hope that answers your questions. ❤️❤️❤️
I hated the gelatos but now I think I need those brushes, wow! Michaels has them open stock and with a coupon it's $1 and change per one!
Run!!! Go get them! They are not the best brushes. They start falling apart over time, but for that price it’s worth it. 😊

They have a very good colour bank , but I wanted to supplement them with a small set of gelatos. What pack would you suggest? I was thinking either metallic or iridescent ? Thanks!
Hi Susan! I think if it were me I would choose the Iridescent set. (There are 2) or if you can swing it, the Dolce gift set 2 has some wonderful colors.

I do not believe so Marilyn. I have not experienced any color transfer once the Gelatos are rubbed into the paper and have dried.

Thank you Sherry! I can’t remember the combo it was such a long time ago. But I’m sure you can get a similar look by using Polychromos Crean, Bistre, walnut Brown, sepia and black. There are several videos here where I use that combo.

Hi Karen, I have been given some gelatos and want to get some stencilling brushes like you have to use with them. I have been looking online and I don’t know if there are different types of brush. Are they all the same? I don’t want to spend a lot of money if a cheap stencilling brush will do the job. (Love the video, learnt lots, thankyou so much.)
Hi Dee!! The important thing is is the length of the bristles. There is a link in the description box to a set on Amazon US where you can see the length I recommend. Longer bristle brushes will bend and be difficult to use. If you are in the US, Michaels carries the set I use, but I am finding over the time the bristles are coming out. Not a big deal because they are pretty cheap and easily replaced, but I am going to purchase the set I spoke of on Amazon.

Oh, you mean instead of using a mixing palette? I suppose you could, but because the paper is porous I don’t think you will get as smooth if a blend. I think you would see the swirly marks that you first get when putting it strait on to the paper.

@@bolshoibooze85 lol. I’m such a dummy. Neocolor II’s are much harder and more crayon like. The Gelatos are soft and creamy. Almost like a lip balm. Neos can be used but it takes a lot more work. Heat will help soften them.

Hi Sabrina. No I do not use water. The short bristle brushes move the pigment around very well and I don’t like the way water buckles the paper. 😃

You’re not showing what your’e doing on your scratch pad. Do you put a dab of gelato on the paper to mix?
It’s the Caran D’Ache palette. I rub the gelato on it to get the product off the stick and then I pick it up with the short bristle stencil brush.
