I would say that for once the algorythm just picked up on some quality content. Very nice interview! And for a guy like me that was one fo Christians first followers it's just super fun to finally hear his story!
started watching him when I was just a freshman in high school, I still watch him now that I'm on my first year in college and he has honestly been a part of the reason why I got into fashion
Omg, this video is amazing. I really hate saying "It's so me", but seeing how Christian holds those apparently contradicting objectives and values ignites something in my heart and makes me feel so powerful. It is not about beating the game with a meta build but doing it in the most unconventional and personal way, almost masochist.
One of the more fulfilling podcasts I've heard in a while. Loved yall both taking about anxieties surrounding new ventures. Definitely an undervalued topic
I came across Christian because of skateboarding culture. I don’t dress like the typical, but I appreciate the satire that he brings to subcultures of fashion, especially skateboarding. He gives me knowledge of what’s trending, but also tastefully accommodating to it if I choose to because I feel Christian has a balanced view of fashion. In the event I don’t want to accommodate to the fashion trends, the humor he brings can sometimes confirm my choices.
karat is something truly pioneering - providing cents to creators and sense to the audience to mutually learn from each other - a double entendre of value to the community! the episode with jimmy back then and this episode with christian really shows how unassuming our careers can turn out despite the odds 👏🏽
"This would be so cool if they randomly found me" It was really cool bro! Randomly finding out that you're making it and for something I never imagined!
i didn’t realize it at the time, but i came across christian virtually right after he started, in 2016, when i was in 6th grade, me and my best friend were just into sneakers and looking cool. ironically he talks about it in the interview but i’ve grown more into the “pretentious” kind of approach to fashion and he has grown more into the subversive doesn’t really care about the fashion establishment kinda person. this year i left seattle and am a first year fashion design student at polimoda, it always feels surreal seeing a new frugal aesthetic video in the same exact as i have for years remembering just how much of an impact his videos have had on me. id love to have a conversation with him one day, but until then this interview was amazing, thank you for the great work.
His story is so interesting. Loved when you guys talked about your motivation & taking things as a competition. I love the thought of what if I really did that, grinded my ass of and got to the point where the brands are I looked up to. Like acting upon that drive is so motivating. You could literary apply this to anything you want to achieve.
christian is my biggest inspiration, he literally changed my life, thats why i started youtube. also it's crazy how he changed the perception of fashion for young guys and made it more fun. im just waiting to see these dirty vans at the met gala
Such an amazing podcast bro! This podcast really remind me about the philosophy about Taoism, Flow, Robert Greene's books: Mastery. By not caring about the outcome, and going into a state of flow with what you are doing. And the outcome is just the side effect of your work. Like the quote from Viktor Frankl's book: “Don't aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run-in the long-run, I say!-success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it”
*listening to the pod* wow Christian is really just describing ADHD right now how relatable 1:11:30 there it is xp getting diagnosed was honestly the best decision I have made in my adult life. I understand myself so much better now.
fuck, this video just opened a mental block for me and i don't even know how this ended up on my feed. but im so glad it did bc omg, this shit snatched me up BAD
ok 11 minutes into the vid and even though i wouldn’t really recommend christian’s “fuck it” mentality and put all your eggs in one basket, i still respect that he was able to take something that he was extremely passionate about and turn it into a profitable career. 53 minute mark: this guy is a fucking visionary
I can agree with Christians point on the knowledge of fashion at a young age being an ever exceeding skill cap.I’m 15 and I was at an internship for the DA’s office and my coworker who was double my age took me very seriously on fashion cause I just knew abt Rick and RAF runways with a few underground runway brands at the time such as Botter and Kennethize. The reason of this is channels like Bliss Foster, Fashion Roadman, and Threaducation having an easy entry into these brands which back in the day were pretty hard to know due to the pricing of the items. Now that fashion can be appreciated from a distance with groups such as the archive community people actually start to care and get to know these brands setting up Grailed pieces and having their favorite runways be older then them.
About the pretentious part, i think it's more like being a coach for a sport where you don't actually play the sport but you usually know more about it than the players/athletes do or that you have a more objective look on it and a better insight. Also i read somewhere that "luck is when opportunity meets preparation" so what Christian said is true but if you're not prepared you won't be able to get the opportunity
The questions become how it was funded , did he use student loans. He shared meatballs with his roommate , so it always takes a 3rd party to back up someone while they skill dev.
@@trykarat he's a smaller creator but i think he'd be a great guest since i see that he can talk and conversate really well, fashionlover4, but if u don't bring smaller creators, maybe fashion elitist?
Very good episode but idk it was kinda funny hearing you somehow fit in the fact that "Aaaand you were asian!" Idk how important it was he was asian, it's just like yea, he's hawaiian so what? Don't think too many thought about it.
You might want to revise the thumbnail, the current one kinda makes him look like a Chinese version of Kanye 😭 Not that it's bad, it's just that it's really uncanny.
I have no idea why this suddenly starting popping off (from like 3K views to 15K views in 1 day) - but thank you! 🥰
Love frugal aesthetic! He has so many insights, and I find him so intriguing and original. Thank you for a great interview with thoughtful questions!
you are a great interviewer!! never watched you, totally love the guest. super interesting content

Christian is great because he's genuine and funny. If you look around at men's fashion content you'll see that that's pretty hard to come by.
I came here because I liked Christian, but your intelligence in carrying out the conversation is why I stayed. You are good
Thank you 🙏
