    European influence brought about surnames/last names among the Akans . It was not a practice . For instance my name is yaw yeboa real name that is named after my father’s uncle … my father’s is Kwasi Asare … we were compelled to now assume our father’s name hence I had to add Asare to mine …

    My father's first Name is Adjei Kyeremeh and my last name is Adjei . Can anyone explain this please?
    My second question. Why do I have no name middle name. I don't see this with other Akan people in the USA. Explain.

    Mensah is a third boy of three continue boys with no female in between same thing applies to mansa

      It was original an anglicanised form of Egyir, a Fante name.

      @@yawampadu6686 I don't know but it's a Fante name. Kwegyir Egyir people from Anomabɔ and it's environs. Maybe the Asante version is the Agyare but I don't know.
