That same thing that happened to me with bikes has now happened to me with snowmobiles: You have priced me OUT OF THE SPORT. You simply don't make a $5,000 basic ADULT sled anymore. When the cost of a snowmobile rivals that of a good rental property, I'm done.
My expedition is the best machine I have ever bought, speaking for myself of course. Hauling wood, backcountry fishing trips, riding backcountry, trail riding, it truly doesn’t matter what I do, the machine impressed me more daily.
Got a Turbo SWT snowchecked this year, only had it out once so far but the floatation is unreal. Doesn't have the power of the Sidewinder (for obvious reasons), but it really a "jack of all trades, master of none." It can do trails endlessly and comfortably (fan radiator + 4 stroke runs cool) with plush performance, you can tow a sleigh or load up the huge back cargo rack for an overnight trip, you can boondock deep in the backcountry solo with minimal risk of getting stuck. Floats right over sugar powder that aggressive summit sled tractoring would trench 2-3' down into. They really knocked it out of the park mating the big utility sled strengths like the VKII and Skandic with the handling of a "sport" sled with few losses in either category. You have more exposed suspension compared to telescoping "pogo" utility suspension, but that's a minor weakness to get the full suspension handling in return. I'd look at the Polaris Titan too if they started offering a 4-stroke option, or maybe the 24" SWT track. That floatation in soft bottomless powder can't be beat.
Have a 2021Expedition Xtreme 850 - cant believe how good of a job it does at so many things. Live in central MN, does great in hard pack trail, and get to ride off trail in the U.P. 5-6 trips a year, I dont change a thing other than limited strap position. Even went to Buffalo Pass in Colorado last year (11,000') and did nothing but clutching changes and out rode a lot of "mountain" sleds. Can't see myself owning anything else for awhile.
Wow. That was a very interesting back and forth interview. I had no idea that was ski doo’s most popular line. It’s definitely a cool sled, especially with the 850. Cannot wait for the other parts in this series.
I have a titan but same kinda class. I think the reason for this class being popular is they can tow, ride two people good for making trails and some off trail fun. They are capable on the trail and really the Swiss army knife of sleds. A sled like this allows you to still head out ice fishing and getting some firewood while also hitting trails when we get good seasons. More specialized sleds you really do need to get good dumps on snow and can be hard to swallow when you've spent 20 k and can't really head it much if at all.
Love this sled. Have not been in the sport long but I started with a 06 Yamaha SX viper. Wanted something brand new so I bought a 2021 Expedition LE in 600R engine and I put a lot of accessories on it. I love it. I trail ride sometimes and also head out with an Uncle who still traps. Works great everywhere. It is heavy though. The 600R is about 620 lbs I think. The only think I wish is that their accessories were not sooooo expensive. The LINQ system is awesome but very pricy.
I have a question that needs to be awnsered. Why did my 2022 Expadition Extreme priced at $25,000 (after $3000 in accessories) not come with the deluxe gauge cluster?

I'm thinking of changing the sparkplugs for the first time🙂 I have done som mods to it, changed the seat, extra LED lights (ski-doo original parts) so it fits my needs a bit better. When the time comes to change my choise would be a Expedition but I think whit a wider drivebelt as the LE or SE.
