I've been reading this series through kindle and I appreciate the clear high quality and variety of art we've seen so far and the stories themselves have been decent to good especially the Jim Zub and Patch Zircher issues. Tis a shame Titan still has recurring printing issues, they have to fix this asap or else the series might suffer even though creatively it is quite good so far.
The issues have looked wonderful in digital. Fafner's art in Issue #1 looked fantastic in that format. Interestingly, I feel that Pace's work in Issue #2 was served to greater effect in print format. (Though there was no quality issue between the two.) His rustic style is just somehow meant for the tactile world. I think my biggest gripe in this issue is (and I know I'm repeating myself) the back cover. And I think Lion's observation on the pin-ups not taking advantage of the the large page format is spot-on. 👍
We hear your frustrations and we at Conan HQ have not been pleased with these printing issues either. We have talked to the printers to try and get these sorted out as the proofs we send in are correct. It is an issue in the file translation processes it seems. No excuses, but just wanted to let the fans know we hear you and we are working on it. We are glad you enjoyed the story otherwise!
@@conanthebarbarianofficial Thanks Dog Brother! It was a great issue. The back cover was the bigger frustration...I regret to say it tainted things before I started reading the issue. (And I don't like being negative! 😊)
@conanthebarbarianofficial sounds like you need a new printer then because these printing issues have been present since issue 1 of both the monthly book and Savage Sword
Hail Dog Brother! Still waiting for my copy to arrive. These printing issues are getting old and it is hurting the good will they are working so hard to garner.
Hey Dog Brother! Yeah, so very frustrating. But it's that back cover...I keep harping about it but I find the errors there offensive. 😕 Lots of great things about the issue though. I just wanna see it be perfect! ⚔️
@@StygianDogs I find any printing errors offensive if it's coming from a professional printing service or facility. There's no excuse for it. These errors devalue the book for collectors on top of making them look bad at best and amateur at worst.
@@StygianDogs I hope our boys at Titan get this sorted out, I want nothing more for them to succeed in keeping Howard's legacy alive and thriving for another 100 years and frequent print errors impede that
@@MourningConstitution The feature story looked gorgeous though. As did the Zub and RDLT story. I think the back cover put me in a bad mood and tainted the experience. 😕
@ the little things add up in issue 5. Dark pin ups, editing errors, I thought Conan’s mom died on the battlefield giving birth to him? Guess they can’t all be perfect.
I dislike being negative but the errors on the back soured my experience before even opening it up. It was a pretty darn solid SSoC though. Can't wait to read it again.
@StygianDogs I agree, if they can't take care of the little things like that, it speaks as to how they would take care of the larger issues. It comes across as unprofessional, unfortunately. But overall, I enjoyed the issue. Loved the Zub/deLatorre story, and it was nice to see Isherwood back. I've always been a fan.
Good Stuff as usual SD! And as usual, you're a day ahead of me in picking this up! I'm really looking forward to this reading this one! ... hopefully my copy's print quality is decent.
I enjoyed it, but I did want to mention about the break in the story from Part 1 to Part 2. I felt that the transition was a bit abrupt, and maybe tweaking the paneling would've been more effective (a dedicated splash page?)? Currently, it gives the impression that the team lettered "Part 2" into the panel at the last second. (An *ultra* minor nitpick that, otherwise, didn't detract from the awesome main story.) The Jim Zub ultra-short was fine. The third backup was neat too. Overall, an enjoyable magazine issue.
this was a great issue. it's taken a bit to get there but the printing (on my copy at least) looks top notch and no busted corners ! (maybe having 80+ pages is too hard to ship undamaged). King Conan is back and that means maybe we get some Conn stories down the road too. Really enjoyed the quick hit from de la torre, and yes the Conan mother thing was a questionable inclusion... Nice pin ups... maybe we'll get some full portfolios in the future. Good vid, as always seems to be the case.
Sooo close to being perfect. I find that I can forgive the printing issues...but it's a shame for the artists that are impacted. But that back cover has me miffed. (Let it go, man. Let it go. 😂)
I appreciate your candor in this review. Your critiques are valid and I agree with all of them. As a side note, the text block formatting errors on the back of the book are exclusive to the print edition. The text block is perfect in the digital addition. It makes me wonder if something happens when the digital masters that the printer receives don't get verified or Q/A'ed before the go to mass print. As I often bind my own books it happens to me quite often if I don't check and recheck. Anyways, thought it might be something you would like to know. Cheers friend.
Agree with your critiques Dog-Brother. I an enjoying the run but the printing issues with the first issue were bad. Now this new issue has the same problem where one of the pinups is so dark the art can't be enjoyed. Hopefully these issues are corrected on future issues
@@Mpalumbo1971Flogging a dead horse, I know, but the errors on the back cover. Oof. 😔 I expect the Roy Thomas and Roberto De La Torre issue to be flawless!
@StygianDogs that's the issue I've been waiting for. I have been a SSOC fan since I was 9, I'm 53 now. If this issue is less than what it should be I may drop the mag altogether. Every issue so far has been severly lacking in one way or another. This last one has been the closest to being a really good issue
Good review, nothing wrong with bringing up things that you dislike, that does not make it a poor issue, just not the best. Cover by Jusko is top tier, he is the best at the covers. Pin-ups were too dark. Love King Conan, Jason Aaron’s story was good and art was not bad. Damn thing in the Water was a fun little tale, enjoyed it. I really do not like young Conan; although, the story was not bad, was not a fan of the art. Overall solid issue, having all Conan stories was a plus.
Issue 1 was really good but issue 2 had some very simplistic art that kind of made me just start skimping threw some of the pages as apose to taking my time soaking in the art & what's happening in the panel . I still need to catch up I typically dont read singles or mush current series outside of conan since I wait for trades or hardcovers s
I've liked all of the issues...but none have quite nailed it yet. Almost...but not quite. Honestly, I did enjoy this one a lot. But when I saw the errors on the back cover, I knew before opening it that it just wouldn't be THE issue that got it all right. (I know, perhaps I need to lower my expectations. 😉) But when something so superficial is so wrong, well it made me feel that maybe my money is being taken for granted. (I don't believe this but it felt that way.) Negatives aside, Isherwood's art is sumptuous and demands rereading. 👍⚔️

@StygianDogs koo I got to get back to it . Conan the barbarian is the one I've enjoyed more so far but I've only read 2 issues of savage sword
This issue blows. Bad art. Bad unexcepetable reproduction again. Your out of your mind to like this rag.
