Officium defunctorum, 1605
Tomás Luis de Victoria
(Ávila, 1548 - Madrid, 1611)
«Versa est in luctum cithara mea,
et organum meum in vocem flentium.
Parce mihi, Domine,
nihil enim sunt dies mei».
(Job 30:31; 7:16)
«My harp is turned to mourning
and my organ into the voice of those that weep.
Spare me, O Lord,
for my days are nothing».
(Job 30:31; 7:16)
«Mi arpa se ha transformado en luto
y mi órgano en la voz de los que lloran.
Perdóname, Señor,
porque mis días no son nada».
(Job 30:31; 7:16)
Muchas gracias; es de una profundidad y belleza únicas.

I’m very confused: did Victoria copy Lobo’s lyrics and make his own motet a few years later??
Two great compossers , Lobos is less knew, but for my, is greatest
Victoria didn't "copy Lobo's lyrics", as the text from this motet comes straight from the Bible, and is an integral part of medieval and renaissance funeral services
@@stefanocrosazzo3262 Yea I recognize it from like Job and maybe another part from Psalms, but I figured Lobo made a novel selection - I didn’t know it was popular for funeral rites
