Yeah the way it goes into 3/4 time With the Alleluiah, very joyous, and then it ends in the 4/4, it sounds more modern like Classical Mozart or something.
Very, very difficult to fly solo, yet all four did so magnificently. The soprano was pure, the alto was strong, the tenor was bold, the bass had incredible breath control in moving so much air. Thank you for recording this.

They are all magnificent. The soprano is stunning, the alto so warm and confident, the tenor adorable, and the base voice is such a rock of it all. Victoria and Palestrina reminded everybody of only the human voice was called to sing to the Lord. And the Latin is just sublime!

I think Victoria is the most brilliant polyphonic composer of all time. As each generation gets more stupid, the likelihood of any contemporary composer being a true peer of Victoria, Palestrina, Byrd, etc. is almost 0%. When the Catholic Church performed euthanasia on its own music and forced New Dawn Music down our bleeding ear canals in the 1970's the masters were kept alive at Tower Records, one aisle over from KISS and Black Sabbath. And now the masters are kept alive on TH-cam. The irony is uncanny: the Church expunges herself from something truly holy and brilliant, only for that thing to be picked up by the most unlikely characters. Like a lion released from its cage, this music is forever in the wild, regardless of whether the Church ever comes to see the lunacy (or darkness) of her decisions. Victoria will live forever because it transcends time, bypasses our broken flesh and speaks directly to our God-given soul, with which Victoria, as a faithful priest, was familiar.
English translation: O great mystery, and wonderful sacrament, that animals should see the newborn Lord, lying in a manger! Blessed is the virgin whose womb was worthy to bear the Lord, Jesus Christ. Alleluia!
I really love this warm and strong Alto voice. However, the whole ensemble is just great. And the music from that time is adorable: like waves coming in and going out, flowing into each other.

Such a beautifully controlled sound! Each of the four voices has its own rich, distinctive sound. As an ensemble they combine their individual voices without losing anything of their own distinctiveness - I believe this is exactly what Victoria intended!
Simply mind blowing and deeply moving. I never thought I'd say this, but they are that good that they equal The Sixteen. One of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.

Tge group singing this are Fieri Consort was founded in 2012. Fieri Consort is one of the UK’s most exciting vocal groups, offering a unique blend of technical precision and theatrical innovation. Performing without a conductor, Fieri presents innovative and engaging programmes, and specialises in the rich and varied tradition of 16th and 17th century Italian repertoire. Performing a cappella, accompanied by early instruments, with guests and even with members of their audiences, Fieri’s interpretations are informed by the collective experience and knowledge of the group. December 20, 2021. IfOutstanding! This is such an exposed way to do this piece, one on a part, yet how delicate and with the color shadings of stained glass in early light as the imitations are passed along. Victoria is the most expressive setter of texts in that period, I believe, and the purity of everything here, from vocal color to intonation to fine dynamic balance, all serve this gorgeous little reflection on the wonder of humble animals at the birth of Jesus.
