I used to have a VAX 11/750 in my house. I miss that machine so very, very much. Had an opportunity to get my hands on three 11/780s, but could never manage to arrange transportation.

wow so great to see the steps in action for bootstrapping 4.3.. Sorry it was a bit weird to write, although I never did try the console floppy image from 4.3Quasijarus which will let you run the boot program without sideloading it like boot42 (I couldn't do attachments in gunkies, so I though the uuencode was a good fix..). I built various packages for older Unix systems, although 4.3BSD Uwisc is by far the best/easiest to port to, and yes I even have top for 4.3BSD Uwisc (it's on the sourceforge page: sourceforge.net/projects/bsd42/files/Package%20Tapes/ )
I know it's 3 years late to this video but I've found various other old stuff, such as the Mach 2.5 kernel for the i386, and an older version of Mach for the VAX sourceforge.net/projects/bsd42/files/4BSD%20under%20Windows/v0.4/Mach86.zip/download . I've been seeing how much of 4.3Tahoe I can just get to run for a full bootstrap of 2.5 Mach on the i386, although it's hitting all kinds of snags with things that were not distributed. But it's all still fun.

I followed this tutorial, managed to get this working on my system. Thanks for showing how to fix the perl scripts! the first time i did it, i was getting some sort of "bad instruction" error in simh, but then after modding the perl script it worked a lot better!

    Nice!
One thing I'd love to see is ITS running on SIMH. I don't know if it works though...

This was seriously fun to watch - a lot of heart and deep appreciation for these great, foundational systems coming through. Props!

386Mach is where the real fun is... Although it really needs a usable network card driver.
