David Cronenburg has always been a very interesting director. Eastern Promises (which once again stars Viggo Mortenson), Dead Ringers, Crash. Great films.

"Videodrome", "Naked Lunch", and "Existenz" are all mind-scrambles.

This is one of my favourite films of all time. Viggo is just excellent, his ability to act and switch from humble and harmless to dark and dangerous is outstanding. The supporting cast was also amazing. The story drives the film so its a film I've rewatched with is extremely rare for me.

So glad you reacted to this! Such a layered, odd, unique film, and it often flies under the radar. And Viggo's performance is so perfectly detailed: he's SO convincing as a non-violent man at the start, and then your perception of him turns on a dime, and you start to see all the little cracks in his disguise.

This movie’s violence hits as more realistic to me probably from the sound design and the fact that people don’t just eat damage like a lot of other movies

Of course it wasn’t his first time . He even had suspicions when they came in . Best quote from a fan “ Too late for them . As they were dying they realized they were nowhere near being the scariest , most dangerous people on the planet “

I'm glad to see films such as this getting attention here, and I'm glad you liked it. As some have already done, I'd highly recommend watching Cronenberg's follow up to this, Eastern Promises, where he again collaborated with Viggo Mortensen. Imho, both these films are the best in their respective filmographies.
Many of Cronenberg's films are at least interesting to see, so if anyone reading this is interested in seeing more of Cronenberg, I'd recommend looking at his films from the '70s and '80s, which are mostly scifi-horror. Some of the ones that stand out to me are The Brood, Scanners, and Videodrome. There's also The Dead Zone with Christopher Walken, based on a Stephen King novel. Highly recommended. And of course, there's The Fly, which is actually a remake of an older film with Vincent Price, though you've already seen it. I will say that two of his later films, Cosmopolis and Maps to the Stars, can be hard watches in large part because the dialogue is so unnatural and can be hard to follow. I haven't seen his latest film yet, Crimes of the Future, though I understand it's supposed to be something of a return to his scifi-horror roots.
Sorry for the essay. Bit of a film nerd, and Cronenberg is one of my favorite directors. TLDR: just watch Cronenberg.

Such a great reaction. David Cronenburg's "A History of Violence" was a movie I rented on a whim and had to had to immediately watch again because of everything you caught onto (and a lot I missed the first time). William Hurt was a well-established, Oscar winner by this point but I've never been more entertained by him in a film. Richie Cusack is so hilarious and unhinged.

Check out Mr.Brooks for a stellar William Hurt ,maybe more entertaining that in this one.

movies like this (quiet/mellow/sissy/meek/calm/weak/etc guy, is actually a bad'ss beast):
    Drive (2011) // ryan goslin
Edge of Darkness (2010) // mel gibson
(probably a few more that I'm forgetting)
    -------------
History of Violence // viggo mortesson // just having it for sake of listing them
The Equalizer 1-2 // danzel washington // though this movie is obviously very well-known and popular

Great reaction Mr. Boyd. This is an incredibly underrated movie. Movies that you can not see the ending coming and characters are not who you think they are ( Inside Man, The Devil’s Advocate, The Game), are the best movies to watch! Look forward to more of your reactions!

Yes! You're the first reactor I've seen react to this Cronenberg modern classic! Next you gotta do Eastern Promises, same duo of Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen!

The DVD commentary of this movie is worth listening too. The director explains why and how Viggo handles the Shotgun when you see him first handle it.

Check out another viggo movie. The road. Its as beautiful as it is grim.
Also I think you'll dig road to perdition. A period mobster flick starring Tom hanks.

Nothing at all to do with what you’re watching … but I’ve just thought you would love the Black Mirror series/episodes. Each one is standalone so none of the episodes are linked.

I'm Always happy to see anyone react to this fantastic well done So Layered movie, So Thanks for that 👍🙏🙏🙏✌️...
Even if i respectfully disagree with all the final thoughts of everybody (and that's OK IdC 😅!!)
The deep meaning of this masterpiece is (of course - my point of view) the difference between "Male violence" and "female violence" in society and the final scene is sooo impactful 👌

This was on my "to watch" list for a while. Watching the intro at one point yawned and turned it off. Then finally I decided to watch it thoroughly and was blown away!
Up there with No Country For Old Men, Law Abiding Citizen, Running Scared and Drive! Movies that aren't mindless violence but uses violence to tell the story!
Viggo did this and Hidalgo right after LOTRs! Brilliant actor!
