Here I am, after the New Year's hiking trip to Greece, I visited Ioanina, Meteora, Vikos canyon, Edessa and a few other places and I absolutely loved it! So now I listen to a lot of greek music and I'll try to learn greek, at least a few important phrases 😃 Your videos seem great for beginners, I'm looking forward to learning with your vids ☺
Absolutely correct. I am an English teacher. I do grammar when it's needed with students but more importantly we do conversation. Conversation is the key. I always told them to speak and not worry about the mistakes they make. Many students thanked me.
Thanks Alexandra, I have been trying to learn greek for many years, but do not have the confidence to speak it, maybe next year I will make the move, have a great Xmas and a happy new year, χρονια πολλα ❤
I was the same and one day I decided to talk to the cleaner in our apartment in Kephalonia she is an old lady that cannot speak English and she really wanted to talk but had no idea that I was learning Greek. I speak to all Greeks in Greek now and when I get it wrong they correct me and this works well if you welcome their constructive advice
Do it , Dave, do it! Don't be afraid . Start small , start making questions and show interest in the beginning and then you'll speak more. Χρόνια πολλά!💗💪
Thank you so much! I know that it makes you anxious, that's why I always say that speaking a foreign languge is first of all attitude. So, when you are ready to speak , think about it as a very pleasant thing and just do it!

Hello. Thank you for your helpful message. I agree that to learn the language properly, you need to have conversations. Because you can experience it as a language that is alive, and not as just some abstract theoretical information.
Yes. I lived in Chile, South America 6 years. Know lots of people who never learned Spanish. Here in Cyprus many people spend years studying Greek and never learned it. In Chile it was easier for me to learn Spanish because I worked in an office and there you must learn. Here in Cyprus 97% of the people speak English.
I practice Greek for an hour everyday but I have found on my travels to Greece that Greek people practice learning English much easier than English people learning Greek . Greek people are emersed in English and US culture. They watch English and US TV and movies and listen to English sung music. It is not the same when an English speaking person is learning another language as other languages are not present in everyday life . I make an effort to listen to Greek radio listen to Greek music and interviews on YT . This morning I watched an interview with Helena Paparizou
Your English is very good Alexandra! :) now I am learning Greek as an Englishman I appreciate the effort you must have put in to learn English as a Greek🙏 as you say it definitely takes bravery Does it feel quite natural to speak English now? Or do you still feel like you are speaking a foreign Language. I wonder if it can get to a point where it feels natural God bless ✝️
oh! Thank you for saying that my english is good. This means the world to me, to be able to communicate with you. Most of the times it feels natural. I mean that i think in english and i don't translate from greek anymore. But i have noticed that when i haven't used the language for some time , then it's a litlle more difficult to express myself. That's why , it needs everyday practice, especially speaking!
@DoYouSpeakGreek ah, cool :) that's really interesting. Thanks for responding! I think choosing Greek as a first language to learn was a tough challenge, but I just feel drawn to the Greek language and the people of Greece always make me smile. Something about Greece that makes me feel at peace 🕊️
@DoYouSpeakGreek must be like my French. But I understand it listening to it any reading but depends on the content.Thank you for your videos. There are many Greeks in NY.There is a French teacher whose speaks about 4 languages or 5 ,I think.Spanish any English ate one of them. There is a Girl whose has a Spanish channel on TH-cam.She even has some on jokes in Spanish.Perhaps you could give us some jokes in Greek.Short any simple ones to get into the language more. Gracias por ser profesora del griego.
You cant learn a language when the other side does not want to communicate in that language. Like in Greece. If you dont speak perfect Greek they (Greeks) would rather talk to you in english than help you with your Greek. In the end you can only rely on your self with books and apps, but if you dont have a good memory, you are out of luck.
Unfortunately native people are not able to train us in speaking , especially in a touristic country like Greece. That's why there are teachers, conversational clubs, language exchanges . There are so many out there. You can choose anything fits your style
@@DoYouSpeakGreek teachers where never that helpful in my life. Thats why I am self taught and learn at my own pace in everything. Maybe thats why I am barley B1 level in greek for all of my life even with Greek speaking parents. I guess some people have their limitations.
