Despite her warnings, Jonathan arrives four weeks later at a large, gloomy castle. Out of the mist appears a pale, wraith-like figure with a shaven head and deep-sunken eyes who identifies himself as Count Dracula. The events that transpire slowly convince Harker that he is in the presence of a vampyre. What he doesn't know is the magnitude of danger he, his wife and his town are about to experience.

She's scarier than the vampire! Those eyes!
I know! Full of beauty and madness. She's always had a great presence.
Lucy knew death was coming for her, literally.
BRILLIANT OBSERVATION ❤
Werner Herzog picked a perfect person to play the main character. Klaus was freaky looking even without the makeup...heard he was pretty twisted in real life as well.
Herzog and Kinski had a real love-hate relationship working with each other, to the point Herzog actually plotted to kill Kinski while he slept.
For real!
Check out his compelling performance as the title character in Herzog's Aguirre, the Wrath of God. Compelling as Kinski, again, becomes completely dedicated to the role.
She really looks like a character from _Dracula._ It's strange, it's hard to find _Dracula_ movies that really feel like _Dracula_ movies...
She's beautiful what's you talking about id Mary her
Bram strokers Dracula is by far the best
@@scarystuff1534 Bram Stoker is the name. What do you mean is the best? Is the same novel .
YOU WILL NEVER CHANGE THE WAY I FEEL ABOUT HIM !!!!
Klaus Kinski is terrifying in this role, he fits it so well. But it's even creepier that he himself was a terrifying, unpredictable person in real life.
i say real kinski was far more creepy than his dracula attempt
I first found this movie slow and boring, but now i just find it mesmerizing compared to the fast pace of most Hollywood movies...the eeriness, use of real locations, cinematography and performances are wonderful. The overall atmosphere is old world horror.
German Quality
Congratulations. You just became adult.
Herzog Quality
Yeah, old world horror. Well said.
You'd think she'd offer him some nail clippers.
I love how she brings her hands to her neck, trying to protect herself from the vampire’s bite.
No, she offers her neck to him to show she will not be deterred, even if he bites her. That is why he turned away. He wants more than blood. He wants love. Ha!
The first time Lucy encountered Dracula, she used the cross on her neck to ward him off.
this is one of the most artistic, most beautiful, most poetic scenes i’ve ever seen in my life.
nosferatu will always warm my heart, any time of the century.
You've got to be trolling
LMAO this guy was literally insane. It’s entertaining to watch but it’s not good.
Agreed. Something Shakespearean/Gothic about it. Composition, lighting, set design, acting, dialogue, poetry - sublime.
@@al112v4 You got to be kidding.
@@camila28795 Have you seen his other films and how he interacted with the actors? 😆
Even vampires had good manners back then.....
@Cel Ariyo I feel you, duly noted.
Lucy seemed a lot braver in this clip than in the German one with English subtitles.
Your statement also works without the subtitles. :D
Which dub makes “Nosferatu” more intense: the German dub or the English dub?
@@michaellynes3540 Both are intense in their own way.
holy shit the composition of this scene is so fucking exquisite its shocking. her head takes up the vast majority of the screen yet initially we watch her in the mirror as if the camera is directly on her face. the vampires shadow makes its presence known first and i began to wonder if it was embodied at all. only then did i realize we are merely looking at the back of a woman's head and a creeping shadow. We are focused on two mirrored images of sorts: a literal reflection, and an assumed one: the shadow. for moments that is all that seems to exist. not the black blob of hair that fills the bulk of the screen. basic shot/reshot doesn't occur til the end, and even then her actual visage does not seem to correlate with her orientation towards the mirror. mind blown.
and i know jack shit about any of this.
the thoughts of a stunned first time viewer
saw original nosferatu ages ago. made me curious about herzog's take on it.
Amazing composition!!!
Damn😂
This is such an underrated comment. Very well said.
Truly shows off you don't need loud noises, creepy music, and jumpscares to make horror movies memorable.
Werner Herzog is a genius director.
Can we recognize the absolute brilliance of the actor Isabelle Adjani in this? Just as powerful as Kinski
Yeah, she has a remarkable presence. Stunning and eerie. She's like a painting come to life
@@captainbeastazoid7084- Indeed, I wonder what became of her?
@@captainbeastazoid7084She's very beautiful...
Yes, watching her all I could think about was having sex. It was exceptionally powerful.
@@HartmutJagerArtAlongside Catherine Deneuve and Sophie Marceau, she is probably the most famous French actress, so she did pretty well after this role.
This movie and Bram Stoker's Dracula are now my favourite vampire movies. Vampire hunter D and Bloodlust are my favourite vampire animation movies. They all are just.. perfect.
Agreed
I like how she mentally squishes him. great acting, btw xD. Since she hides the cross the complete dialogue she knows that she is in control of the situation and not Dracula. She schools him and finally let him go. So she is in fact the strong part and let Dracula appear weak although being the immortal vampire.
Isabelle Adjani is my idea of the perfect female vampire. I can envision her in a long black dress and a ground-length black cape. The night wind blowing her hair slightly. Her gorgeous and full red lips parted slightly to reveal fangs. Her gaze is absolutely mesmerizing. She would be terrifyingly-beautiful as a creature of the night.
So basically you had the same thought I did which is while watching her all I could think about was sex.
He never blinks. How is this possible?
She was just amazing in her day. Holds her own with Kinski. Loved her performance in La Reine Margot.
Hi kaylei Alex @
She is marvellous even as the Victor Hugo's daghter

Isabelle Adjani's presence makes Dracula not scary.
Vitor Hugo Santana eururyru
She's always had a beautiful/crazy screen presence.
Her eyes....Oh My Gosh..!!!😍❤
@Jerrol Hale yeahhhhh
One of the more amusing moments of this otherwise very dark film is how Renfield is too stupid and crazy even for Dracula to tolerate.
3:10 Yeah that’s right, back off!
Director and coworkers complained about the actor Klaus Kinski being crazy, I've seen some of the other films they've worked on and he truly immerses himself to the character, check out Aguirre wrath of god
. . . indeed, a lot of geniuses are mad / crazy - to lesser or higher degrees !
Kinski plays it like an addict, a compulsion that makes him vulnerable and weak.

She is so beautiful 🌸
She’s otherworldly she’s so gorgeous.
Isabelle Adjani. Just incredible. Her work in "Possession" is one of the most intense things I've ever seen.

Best Dracula film ever. Great acting. Creepy without being a typical special effects USA laughable blood fest.
+Steve A Better is the 1979 Dracula starring Frank Langella, I recommend it.
+theScytheofGod ... I agree that 1979 Dracula is the best adaptation of Stoker's Dracula,
AND Herzog's Nosferatu (1922 silent picture staring Max Schreck) is a great remake and story in it's own right..
peace and happy creature feature watching..
***** And to you as well.
+theScytheofGod Hi, checked out the Frank Langella film, personally I prefer this. Thanks for the tip though.
Steve A You're welcome, Steve, anytime.
I love how Isabelle Adjani played as Lucy
I found this came later on that year 1979. The same year universal studios remake of Dracula (1979). But this movie may have been better when it come's camera work and beautiful gothic music and a very much strong acting right here.
Without a doubt the best vampire movie i have ever seen .
The scene when he first meets kinski in his castle set the tone for this movie .
And no phoney computerized garbage .
I like the other movie Shadow of a Vampire
I know Klaus Kinski was a psychopath (anti social personality disorder) and a possible rapist. I know. But I do enjoy his work. His performance here for instance will always be etched into my mind.
I always try to separate the art from the artist. It’s the same with Roman Polanski, I love his movies but he’s a terrible, wretched excuse for a human being.
As for Kinski, well…
Klaus Kinski can only be described as an absolute bastard, _and that’s being kind._
But, he was a phenomenal actor in most of his roles, he nailed Dracula in this film, perfectly captured the tortured monster. _Although_ in fairness it might be easier to play a monster if you are a *monster.*
Ein wunderbarer Deutscher Film
What has Nationality (Deutscher) to do with a Movie ? ? ?
The 1922 Nosferatu is still creepier
-That is an individual matter of taste !
He didn´t blink at all!
I found this scene strangely relaxing

"German expressionism"
The German version is superior in absolutely every way. Don't get me wrong, this one isn't bad, by ANY means. The German version has a charm and overall brooding creepiness that the English version somewhat lacked (in comparison).
There's only one tiny thing I regret in the German version, Isabelle was dubbed for a strange reason, even though she's fluent in German, her second native language she used to speak with her mother. There are examples, although very rare. Her real voice has a certain nature which is hard to specifiy in simple terms.
I've been told that the German version is good. I saw the English one, and thought it was excruciatingly stilted, as with this scene.
+Smooth Steve
You could also say that the actor's accents were more obvious in the English version......Well, at least the actors who played British characters.
The original one is german
@@thurianwanderer yeah the dialogue is more natural in German. However i think Kinski works in either language because is gives off that he is foreign not only to the vountry he is in, but also the realm of the living. His heaviy breathing adds to that
This scene is so sexy and mysterious.
Clay Mation what’s sexy about this
@@mal_3157 The whole thing.
Clay Mation well I mean, I’m not getting aroused, but hey, everyone has their kinks
@@mal_3157 Well, Isabelle Adjani?
Clay Mation she looks kind of average to me
The direction on this scene is astounding and perfect.
When you realize that if Orlok were a mortal we would see his reflection on the mirror when the door opened but we only can see his shadow the scene gets creepier

Klaus Kinski Also Played Ranfield In The 1970 Dracula Film Starring Christopher Lee As Dracula
Which was a terrible film.
video
Which was one of the closest adaptations (except for the last act which was weird)
That film also had the beautiful Soledad Miranda as Mina and Herbert Long as Van Helsing.
Despite being the most faithfull version untill Copolla it was underwhelming .A waste of a great cast, with a different director it would be a masterpiece.
@@carlosaugustodinizgarcia3526 - Who is Herbert Long ? ? ?🤨
What a woman
Play this scene whilst "Track 11- Mina_Dracula" from the soundtrack of "Bram Stoker's Dracula" is playing. Seriously, they sync incredibly well.

Nos did surprisingly well on the Bachelorette! 😂😅
They make him actually... look /good/
Kinski indeed I S the german Aleister Crowley . . .
I find myself pretty disgusted at how Dracula thought that he could demand love from the wife of the man he had driven mad. He had a lot of nerve thinking that he could make her love him after what he had done. At the beginning of the scene, Lucy was visibly afraid, but as the conversation went on, it became clear that she was also angry at what had been done to her husband. Her determination to defeat Dracula showed when she refused his demand, and displayed the cross she wore.

Well, after all, Dracula sort of let those social skills lapse over the course of the centuries.
- A Vampire - or a deranged person - does not care about moral rules, social niceties, accepted human behaviors or of what society considers 'normal' behavior ! -
@@HartmutJagerArt That, I totally agree with you on, although it doesn't make their behavior any less disgusting.
@@CuteDwarf11 - That's True ! 👍
Is this supposed to be the monster that was flicking the lights off and on on SpongeBob SquarePants graveyard shift episode😁😁
No wrong guy and version
That was from the original Nosferatu by Murnau in the silent era.
Yes. Though it was the 1920s version (named "Count Orlok" back then) specifically.
Dracula comes off as being more sad than creepy after you get past the ominous shadow. The woman is creepier than Dracula.
+CrossoverManiac The best Dracula is the late Christopher Lee, period.
@@fabianfischer4229 I agree.

I prefer the 1922 version
The version I watched was in German
The German version plays better. Not so hard to READ!!!
Adjani was so naturally beautiful. Underrated actress.
There are many levels and dimensions of consciousness. Our experience of human life is only a very short journey in terms of cosmic time and after death (which is not an "end", just a state of transformation) our mental energy or our soul will return to " Essential mental cloud "( personified by the ego ) designated in the Christian religion in an exaggerated expression "the Holy Spirit "(all that believers cannot explain or understand, pompously name god or saint :)
Philippe Cirse why are you spamming this stupid comment on every single nosferatu video
Best part 3:09
El mejor y guapo drecula
BEAUTIFUL !!!
I love vampire
Kinski was insane
Isabella Adjani is so beautiful and Klaus Kinsky so scary. Perfect match and energy on screen. Masterpiece.
Who is a most scariest vampire in movie history? German Nosferatu or Romanian Vlad Dracula?
Without a doubt 'Vlad The Impaler' was the scariest - because he was Real !
Nosferatu easily. Not only has he all typical vampire abilities, he also looks creepier. And he brings literal plague and disease to where-ever he goes. Dracula (Bram Stoker) was a clown in the novel. All he achieved was turning one woman and semi-turned another one until he gets hunted down and died very anti-climactically. And Vlad the Impaler was a capable warlord considering what he was up against, but he's pretty much dead now. So while he was pretty brutal, he's more dangerous, but not creepy/scary. The vampire (in concept alone) is far more eerie and based on folklore far older than Vlad.
I first say him in a Clint Eastwood country movie .. he's a talented hunk !🔥👍
NOT EVEN "GOD" CAN TOUCH THAT !!!!
You really feel pity for Dracula much more in this film than any other vampire film and this is just another reason why this is such a monumental Masterpiece full of incredible poetry and beauty and very creepy. Kinski is just so remarkable, I think one of his greatest performances, as is the whole cast. The Music!!!!! The understatement! That final last shot with the music and Harker galloping off, HAUNTING! Hauntingly beautiful.
It's not that you have pity for this version of Count Dracula, but you do understand him. Yes, he is a monster, but he's a bit more than that as well. He is a creature who is weighed down by the burden of the centuries, by an existence that long ago ceased to have any meaning but which he is condemned to perpetuate because there is no other way for him anymore. He knows it would be better to be dead but death is not possible for him, at least not of his own volition. He desires love in an abstract way but not in any meaningful way because all normal human desires have long since faded in him, only their shadows remain. He is an incarnate ghost, driven by instinct and pure physical need to feed upon others and continue, but there is no object to this continuance. It's simply the only mode of existence he knows. There is nothing else.
I thought his name was Count Orlok in this movie?
The best
They make him actually... look /good/
